Why are buyers of this bag, also purchasing silica packs?  What am I missing?  Thanks

As noted in previous responses, safes can trap moisture. The silica packs are one way to keep documents dry. However, these packs do have a limited shelf life. I don’t think they are the best solution. I use a $15 rechargeable EVA Dry dehumidifier in my safe. It has silica beads inside that change color when wet. When the color changes (visible thru a small window), you plug the dehumidifier in to a standard electrical outlet for a few hours, which warms the beads and dries them out.

As an added level of protection, I have installed a low-cost hygrometer (humidity gauge) that allows me to check humidity at a glance.

This might seem like overkill to some, but my large valuables safe also stores my firearms collection. Moisture causes rust and corrosion— really bad for guns and ammo.

Is this waterproof?

Waterproof to a certain degree.  Will it keep documents dry at the bottom of a pool?  Probably not, but it's meant to withstand a fire and the extinguishing of the fire.

How long will the bag remain fireproof if left out of a fireproof safe?

We suggest customers to put the bag into a safe box or a drawer .  Combining a fireproof bag and a SAFE together is the best solution to offer your files or otherthing complete protection in any fire accident, or paper can still get carbonized within any fire resistand material after extensive exposure to high temperatures.

Is this okay to bend? For a long period of time? I would like to put this inside a half page sized fire resistant pouch. I don't own a safe.
