Children experience complex emotions just like adults. Helping children identify and express their feelings in a positive manner is important for their social-emotional learning, developing empathy, and building resilience. Feelings are neither good nor bad, they simply are. Kids need words to name their feelings, just as they need words to name all things in their world. The Way I Feel uses strong, colorful, and expressive images which go along with simple verses to help children connect the word and the emotion. Children will learn useful words giving parents, teachers, and caregivers many chances to open conversations about what’s going on in their child’s life. Recommended by parents, teachers, and mental health professionals, The Way I Feel is a valuable addition to anyone's library. Review: Helps my toddler express and recognize their feelings so well! - My kid loves this book! The illustrations are so colorful and expressive that it's easy for my toddler (three year old) to recognize the different feelings. Sometimes we talk about the different feelings she felt that day as we read the books. She hands me this book sometimes to read to her too because she likes the illustrations so much. I found out about this book from a wonderful family/child therapist (@consciousmommy) on Instagram who had this book on her list of resources. It's been super helpful to navigate her big toddler feelings. Highly recommend. Review: Elementary teacher approved! - This book is one of my favorite books! I had it up in my classroom all the time when I was a teacher. The kids loved when I would read it over and over again. I even put it in my substitute plans to read for extra lesson.

Wonderful for teaching/discussing emotions with little ones!
This is a fun, colorful, engaging way to talk about emotions with the Littles in your life! It is helpful for emotional development to help them give a name to their different feelings. You can read each example, then bring up situations they might remember from their own experiences that would go with that emotion. My two kids loved it, and now I bought it for my grandson. Highly recommend!

Our 3 Year Old Grandson LOVES This Book!
Our 3 year old grandson is having a rough go of things lately because he feels ALL the feels--but he's acting out because he's unable to articulate the more negative/complicated ones in a healthy fashion. We just got this book, and he's already asked me to read it FOUR TIMES! He will point to certain pages and say, "That's Henry!" SO HE "GETS IT"! For us, this book turned the light on for Henry by providing validation to him in a way that he could understand. And he just LOVES the illustrations too!! As a very communicative grandmother, I can attest to the fact that this book opens the door for further, situation-specific conversations with your littles.

Cute, not what I expected
I was hoping for a book explaining anger and sad feelings and providing coping for those emotions. Instead, it lists all of the feelings and emotions, and that’s pretty much it. Not really what I was looking for, but still a cute book.

Has helped my toddler identify emotions!
Before my daughter was even born I read a lot about how important it is to help small children identify emotions so we got this book. It has been fantastic. I am not kidding when I say that my 19 month old pulls this out to read with us frequently when she is having a day that she is feeling all the feels. I read the book with great emotion in my voice to help her link the emotion word to sounds. And sure enough, because we have read this book since she was tiny, we have been reminded to help her label her emotions from the time she started showing them. Just recently (at only 19 months old!) she has started telling us (with words!) when she is “sad” or “angry”. As pitiful as it is to hear that my child say she is sad or angry, it’s so much better to have her learning to articulate her feelings than to scream or throw things. Love the way this book has helped us teach her about emotions! As she gets older we will graduate up to the full version (currently using the board book)!

Great texts and illustrations for emotional intelligence
I bought it used and it came in great condition. If not for a name written on the back (which I like.. it gives history to the book), it looks brand new. And the content and illustrations are excellent. The way each feeling is described helps kids understand clearly what they look and feels like and in which situation they would experience them. And the final pages where it says that feelings come and go, that we never know what will come next, and that they all, pleasant and unpleasant feelings, are a part of us. Very recommended for emotional intelligence development in children

Not judging, just stating
Unlike a lot of the emotions books available in which scenarios are presented that might make a child feel a certain way, this publication has short poems that describe a variety of emotions, without saying that they are good or bad, right or wrong. The book focuses on how you feel not what makes you feel a particular way. I like this approach. The aim is to help children to articulate how they feel and to talk about emotions without being made to feel at fault for how they feel. I skip the 'scared' page because it is about being scared of a thunder storm at night and the child wants the light on, neither of my children are scared of these things and I don't want to give them ideas! The other descriptions of emotions do not lead a child to associate a particular feeling with a particular situation. This means parents can use the poems as a spring board for talking about feelings and emotions that are specific to the individual child that might be different to generalised ideas of what makes us feel sad, angry, etc. (Many books seem to focus on the 'he snatched my toy, I feel angry, what do I need to do to stop that feeling' approach to emotions that might lead a child to modify his behaviour in a negative way). This book simply, and with lovely illustrations, says 'here are some emotions, we all feel them, they are all a part of who we are'. I used this with one of my children who gets very upset and sometimes angry at what he thinks is unfairness, but my other boy loves the book too and they quite often like to have it read just because they enjoy it.
