Does it show bpm on the app? i read criticism that bpm are not shown on the device.

Do you have to use the app? I just want it it to go a steady beat of for example 180 bpm when I am running without my phone?

Yes, you can totally do this (I myself is also a runner and I do this sometimes to work on my cadence). The Soundbrenner Pulse works standalone from the app. You can tap the Pulse and set the BPM that you desire while adjusting it on the device's control wheel. To set an exact BPM (of 180) you can use the app and then go running (without the phone).

Can it support flamenco rhythm? or is it only metronome?

Well, yes and no. There's no setting per se for Flamenco, but, through the free Android or iPhone app, you can control accents -- not just what beat the accent is on, but also its intensity. So, if you know exactly which accents correspond to Flamenco, you can probably get a pretty close approximation. I like to practice scales to Bossa Nova, so, for that, I set the accent to the second beat. By the way, because this is a pulse device and doesn't work on sound (unless you want it to, in which case you can get the sound played on your phone), you wouldn't want to get too complex with the rhythms. There is also provision for linking to Ableton and MIDI (which I haven't explored personally) and, if you can set up a particular rhythm in those, I'm pretty sure you could get them to play on the Pulse.
