Durarara!!, Vol. 1 (light novel)

The reason why i wanted durarara was simply to know more about izaya orihara's character and his rivalry with shizuo heiwajima. For those who have never read the novel, please watch the anime, since all thr vols. Are not available here or on flipkart. This is second best light novels I have enjoyed, the first being saiunkoku monogatari (in India, its known as cloud color palace). N the main reason behind its awesomeness is the badass characterisation of most of the characters. Durarara or DRRR is basically the 'gangs of wasseypur' or 'fast n furious' of the anime. This is one light novel I could read and watch again n again!

Let me start by saying the shipping was great. Took only a few days to get to me. Let me continue by saying that if you purchase this, you are purchasing yen press's translation and release of the LIGHT NOVEL. This listing is NOT for the manga, as so many reviewers seem to think it is. Perhaps they replaced the listing for that with this, but I digress. This is in fact the LIGHT NOVEL. Words and paragraphs in book form telling the story as it was originally. Yen Press did a great job translating the light novels. I have read fan translations and they don't quite add up to what you're getting here. This translation is great. Great for people just getting into the series, or longtime fans of the anime, the light novels are the original medium Durarara!! started in. It tells the story very well, starting from what anime watchers will know as episode one, and ending around episode 12. The series focuses on adolescent gangs, mystical creatures, and other inhabitants of a city that deals with these things. It's great, and when you get into it, it's much better than synopses make it sound. Can't wait for Yen to release the rest of the volumes of the series. Longtime fans have been waiting a while to see it translated officially. Quality of the book wise, the binding is strong. The pages are thick enough to not rip, but thin enough not to be a nuisance. The text is dark and medium sized. Color pages look great, and the black and white illustrations look just as good. It's a classic paperback, a little wider than I was expecting. Overall, I'm happy to have this on my shelf. It was worth what I paid for it, and DEFINITELY worth the preorder.

The world of Durarara is just the one that you don't wish to leave. A tormented city of love, lies and danger. One of the most overwhelming novel of it's era.
