What kind of steel is this made from?

I don't know what kind of Steel it is but I wouldn't buy one it's a POS. I tried to cut down a little lamb and the blade bent

It vibrates in the hand when chopping. I don't recommend this knife at all. I would go with a Schrade Leroy, solid 16.5 inches. Well worth the price!! Yes I have one. Rugged and solid, not nention sharp and feels good in the hand.

How long is the blade?

Not very long, about 10.5" if measured at longest points. This could be good or bad depending on what you want too use it for. Choppong through dense tree cover it might be helpful, but it's probably a poor choice if you are cutting something like tall grass.
