This is my favorite thing of all the baby items we have bought! I have two.
My son is 18 months now. I bought this when he was almost 4 months. I agree that in the beginning it was more stimulating than soothing and I didn't use it at bedtime for many months. I did buy a second one to put in the car for him to watch if we were driving at night. It worked beautifully to stop his crying in the dark, and the remote was perfect for this. If you do choose to try it in the car, I recommend you put it off to the side rather than directly in line with the car seat, because it is quite heavy and you wouldn't want it to hit baby in the event of an emergency stop. Mounting it in the car took some clever work with Velcro straps to fully secure it, but was worth the effort. When we started using it at bed time, I would turn it on as I rocked him with his bottle, and put out the light when I put him down. In the morning I would switch on the light/music if I needed him to be entertained in his crib while I use the bathroom/get dressed. Worked like a dream for this. As he grew older, he learned to stand and press the light button and the light/sound button. Now he even switches the mode switch on his own. Here is why I am so in love with this thing: We completely black out his room for sleep. When he wakes up in the morning in the dark, he crawls to the edge of the crib and feels for the soother. Then he turns it on and sits quietly until we wake up to get him. I don't wake up to crying in my baby monitor every morning, I wake up to a faint click of the button pressing and the soothing music coming in over the monitor. Love, love, LOVE that. I don't have an issue with the volume, personally. When it is strapped tightly to the rail, the speaker is up against the crib and this mutes it significantly. Also, I use a homedics sound machine to play constant rain white noise, and sometimes over the white noise I can't even tell if I turned it on or not with it set to music only. I have to hit the button a few times until one of a few songs come on that start on a higher note (like Air on a G String) to know it is even playing. So if you use white noise and/or have a broad flat crib rail, the volume certainly won't be an issue. Second thing to note is that it DOES guzzle battery juice like a college student at a kegger. Buy rechargables. No doubt, this is completely necessary. When my son got older and we stopped driving at night so much, we took the second one out of the car and just had it ready for a quick swap when the batteries died on the first one. I know this is an extreme workaround to the need for a nascar pit crew ready with a power screwdriver to change the batteries during a baby meltdown, but it worked for us. One suggestion I would make for the manufacturer would be to give a low battery warning before it dies, rather than it just turning off suddenly and leaving a scary red LED shining in the dark. Not a fan of that. One more thing to keep in mind is that you do have to turn it on to get it to "listen" for the remote. I am not sure how long it takes for the IR receiver to deactivate because I don't really use the remote. But if it has been off all night, you won't be able to turn it on with the remote. Also, the remote needs a line of sight. It is not RF so it will not work around corners or through a door. I know a lot of people wish it would. I learned to accept this limitation and live without the remote. I still love this soother. With two of these on rotation for daily use for 14 months, I have experienced no defects or failures. That is more than I can say for that rotten Munchkin projector/sound machine that I exchanged four times before giving up on it... But that is a different review. Grumble. Also worth noting is that I have the strap adjusted all the way out and it barely fits around my crib rail. It won't wrap around the side rail but it will go around the end rail. A handy DIYer might be able to replace the strap with a longer one. It is just a 1" wide nylon strap with sewn ends. My end rail is 3 3/8" tall and 1" thick. It fits on this rail with a couple inches of strap to spare. If your rail is ~5" tall x 1" thick, you will be nearing the limit and should find a way to check one in-store on a display crib if you can. Any taller than 5" and I am sure the strap won't reach around. Hope this helps with your buying decision.

Cute and does the trick.
This thing works great. Has nice tunes and is soothing and entertaining to the baby. Babies are so individual in what they do and don't like. My baby likes it, but I wouldn't say she's mesmerized by it. She watches it for a bit then looks at other things. I do like that you can just turn on the ocean sounds for white noise. She does fall off to sleep well with it. As for those saying its loud, it starts off kind of loud but the speaker is pointed out the back of it so it a not as loud to the baby as it is to you. It does get quieter as it goes on. I like that it slowly gets softer before shutting off. I haven't used the remote as my baby is usually asleep by the time it shuts off. As of now the music and fish don't soothe her to sleep as much as they just keep her entertained in her crib while I do something else. I like that you can turn off the light and just have the sounds. Overall I like it and I'd buy it again. It's not some miracle baby soother, but it's cute and does the trick. Update 6/5/2014 STILL love this soother. My baby is now 1 year old and loves this even more now that she's older. She can now turn it on and off by herself and she falls asleep to it every night. When she takes naps, sometimes she'll wake up, turn it on, then go back to sleep all on her own. She loves to watch the fishes and listen to the music. I've still never bothered with the remote. She pretty much tunrs it on and off herself so I don't need it. Still works great and for as much as I use it (every day) the batteries last a pretty decent amount of time. I've never had an issue with it falling off or coming undone. The latch is very secure. She bumps it constantly, hold onto it while standing up in her crib, and hits it. Never once has it come loose or fallen off. It's very sturdy. I'd say of all the gadgets I've baught for my daughter, this is on the top 5 list. Definitely worth the money.

Not necessarily a "must have" but a great baby product overall
Love love love the baby einstein products, and this one didn't disappoint. Our baby was mesmerized by this under water scene and eventually "turtle" ended up being one of their first words on account of the turtle appearing to be a mascot on almost every product. This product ultimately achieved right what it says in the title for us, it helped our little one be comfortable in their crib, and soothed them as we transitioned from bassinet in our room to the nursery. For us personally, no lights with just the ocean sounds seemed to do the trick, and it's genius that as it nears the end of it's ten minute interval, the volume just slowly fades away. As they got older, the light and music functionality became great for before or after naptime to allow them to just be comfortable staying in their crib for "quiet time." The main annoyance with this product is the C batteries that this thing seems to have the appetite of a bear for. MY GOD THIS THING EATS BATTERIES! This is where the remote greatly comes in handy, because if you happen to be monitoring your little one & you see they've passed out well before the music interval is up, you can sneak right into their room and click this sucker off to try and salvage a few more hours of battery life out of it. Another pro tip on this item - if anyone you know has a registry through anywhere other than Amazon, don't buy it from the other infamous baby stores - it's like $15 more right off the bat. My cousin recently had a shower and I ordered this through Amazon warehouse (there was the smallest cosmetic damage to the exterior of the box, but the crib soother itself was still sealed NIB) and it only cost $19. I simply called the store for where she had registered and asked them to remove the item from her registry because I had purchased it elsewhere. This allowed me to purchase additional items and still stay in budget! Overall cute product, and great gift ;)

RECOMMEND
I will start off saying this is our second one for our second baby. The first one was given as a gift for our now 25 month old. We turned it on since the day we brought her home. Since then she has not been able to sleep without it. The nice thing is its easy to take it along wherever you go. Ive had it in hotel rooms attached to her pack n play. Ive even taken it to mexico with us. So durability id say is fantastic. The battery life is meh. My daughter has it turned on for the 15 minute play time with no lights just music for her daily nap and at night she has the 15 minute segment with the blue light and dancing fishies. The batteries get replaced about 1-2 times a month and theyre not cheap. Since our kid loves it we have been keeping up with it this long and when our second was born 1 month ago we purchased our second one. My issue with it is the music selection is different. That being said our first is used to those specific songs and if it had happened to break the replacement wouldnt have been the same and would upset her. Im also frustrated that our second baby wont hear the same tunes and be just as in love with them. Otherwise i highly recommend this product

Crib Mobile Alternative
My husband and I were discussing mobiles 3 months after our son was born. A crib mobile was one item we initially didn't think we wanted/needed but we decided after a while to look for one. The Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother came up as the #1 Best Seller in our Amazon search so although it wasn't a traditional mobile, we decided to give it a try. It arrived today and even when we took it out of the box and played with it I was skeptical. I thought it would be way too stimulating to actually put our baby to sleep. I hooked it up to the baby's crib and decided to test it out tonight. (I had to attach it where baby's feet are facing - our front and back rails are sleigh and the mobile's adjustable attachment do-dad doesn't fit there.) I can't believe it - but this thing works. It has a 25-minute cycle that starts out vibrant and loud and dims and softens as time goes on, eventually turning off at the 25-minute mark. When we're preparing our son for bedtime, he has a habit of falling asleep in our arms and then waking up immediately when we lay him in his crib. Sometimes this is a pattern that repeats itself 3 or 4 times before he finally stays asleep. Tonight, he did the same thing - woke up as I laid him down. But this time, when his eyes were open and looking at me, I turned the new crib gadget on and quietly watched him for a few minutes. He was mesmerized in the dark by the new toy but wasn't kicking his feet or getting as excited as I thought he would. He stayed very calm. I then turned the baby monitor on once I was outside the door and watched him on the monitor for the entire 25 minutes. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believe it, but this thing actually lulled him to sleep. That was over 4 hours ago. So far I'm a big fan and would suggest any parent buy this who experiences the same issues we do with putting our baby to bed in his crib.

Would Buy Again Despite Some Features I'd Tweak
Some reviewers have commented on a few quirks about this product (lights that can shine in baby's eyes, the remote, battery life). You should probably buy this anyway. I bought it after using an older model at a relative's house. Our daughter loves it. The music isn't obnoxious, and it has several light/sound combination features. I do find myself wishing the volume was more adjustable, but it still soothes my daughter to sleep. It also keeps her amused when she is playing in her crib. She has learned to turn it on/off herself, which is great when she wakes up at 6 am and I want to try and sleep 30 more minutes. We don't really use the remote anyway, but when I have there have not been any issues. The lights don't seem to bother my daughter, and they do turn off towards the end of the soothe cycle. The battery life is not great, but it isn't so terrible that it bothers me. We have had this toy for about 3 months and I have changed the batteries twice. The indicator light comes on when the batteries are dead, not low, so that is a rather useless feature (and quite irritating if you rely on this thing in the middle of the night). I'd buy it again in a heartbeat and consistently recommend to friends.

Motor stops moving within six months of usage and EATS batteries!
The ONLY reason this is getting stars is because since we used it for my son when he first transitioned into his crib, he has become attached to it and needs it to sleep. Obviously kids love it. The songs in the classical position are great. I like the seashore sounds but my son is partial to the classics now. The water effect is very soothing. The problem is, and when reading other reviews I see this is a common issue, the motor breaks in the machine. So you end up with just a music box that lights up. No moving creatures, no waves. When we got his replacement, my son insisted on sitting in his crib for 15mins just staring the moving creatures again. I'm just waiting for it to break again and having to spend another $50+ for a replacement, that is IF I can find one as they discontinued this defective item. The music settings are really loud and louder as other buyers reported, but this doesn't bother my son so Id say it's not an issue. The starfish start button on the machine is a God send! My son figured out the button very fast and will turn it on to self-soothe if he wakes in the middle of the night. So no more waking up to soothe the baby or disrupt him by going in his room. The remote works, BUT as the manual states, it can only turn on the unit if it has been on within the last hour or so. So it doesn't help you at 3am. WORST part is it eats batteries! Prepare for lots of Costco trips. I feel like the battery usage was progressive, and jumped up after the motor stopped. Probably eating up more juice trying fruitlessly to turn the mechanism inside. Seriously needs 4 C batteries once a week. Now that we got a replacement, we're going to break into the back and see if we can fix the motor for when our current one stops working. Makes me wish we didn't get him attached to this one so we wouldn't have to go through this.

Wish I got it from day 1!
This thing is honestly a miracle. She was getting to that stage where she wanted something to look at and the night lights I had that put a picture on the ceiling are boring and hard to see. So I got this, and not only does it have a blue light that shimmers in her crib (a bit on ceiling too somehow) but the animals all move around, it has soothing ocean sounds she falls asleep too, and the music is nice and soft so if I have to wake her up I'll use the music but it's soothing enough for baby to sleep to on the lower volume option. It has a button for you to just turn the light on if you want to check on them and a remote to turn it on/off for any reason, I would've probably used that option when she was a newborn but I use it rarely since she's mobile and turns it on/off with the bottom star button.. a lot! It's an awesome soother and I don't wish I bought a different one at all. Matter fact, she fell asleep within 5 minutes tonight just watching her soother. I suggest any parents of a baby get one. Love it! Edit: I see some people complain about the battery life and the low-batt light. I think it may be an issue with higher end batteries (for some reason) I've noticed that when I use the cheap ones, that it runs for at the least (lots of nights of not sleeping right away due to bottle wean, so lots of on-time) and 2 weeks otherwise, when the low-batt light comes on, I've run the batteries down up to a week after that light came on but like I said, I feel I get a lot of use due to playing around with what batteries worked best. It does have lights, sounds, and movement that your baby is turning on and off constantly with a run time of 20 mins, so it's not too bad to pay 5$ for a pack of batteries even if it's just one week of use if baby sleeps better. I'd pay 5$ a day if I had to! But I get 2-3 weeks out of each set of batteries. Figured I'd add that.

Great sleep aid for babies
This is by far one of the best purchases I've made as a mother. I bought this for my 10 month old daughter when I was trying to get her to fall asleep on her own in her crib as a positive signal that it was sleep time. She loved it so much that she is now 3 and still uses it in her toddler bed. If she wakes in the middle of the night, she turns it on and goes back to sleep. It also provides a fair amount of light if your child is afraid of the dark The melodies are nice and in tune (unlike many other baby music products that give me a headache after 30sec) and I like how the lights gradually dims to off over the course of ~25min. I do agree with other reviewers that the quietest noise is a bit loud for what I could sleep with but it doesn't seem to bother my daughter and in fact is quite good at drowning out outside noises. It does go through batteries quite often (although not in 1-2hrs as one reviewer suggested) so I recommend buying a couple sets of rechargeable C batteries .

Wir lieben es!
Dieses Aquarium nutzen wir schon 1 Jahr. Jeden Tag.
