Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing

I add a bit to my whites to remove yellowing. It’s trickier to do this in today’s efficiency washers, so I have to dilute this bluing in a bucket of water prior to adding to my wash.

My grandma turned me on to this, and it definitely makes the whites GLOW. I thought, Wow, what a small bottle! This stuff must be expensive! But you know how much it takes for a large load of laundry? ONE QUARTER of a TEASPOON! It's the best value on the planet. If you get some, you won't be sorry.

I’ve used this product about 5 times so far. The apartment complex I live in has hard water and they disconnected the water softener. I can see a difference in the whiteness it’s not as drastic as I would like but there is a difference.

Don’t get my whites white

One of the most frustrating things about being the laundry doer for our house is the white work shirts. No matter what you do, they end up dingy and gray. I've tried bleach, soaking them for hours in hot water and Oxiclean, hanging them in the sun, and even having a friend two hours away who swore she could whiten them take them. None of it worked as well as Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing. Things to keep in mind: A little goes a long way. Err on the side of caution and use less than you think you might need at first. You absolutely need to add it diluted. If you dump the bluing right into the washer, you're going to find blue dots on your clothes even if it doesn't seem like you're touching them when you pour it in. It can take time to build up and see the results. My third wash with the bluing is really when the difference between the control shirts and the bluing shirts started to shine. It's inexpensive, effective, and easy to use. Definitely worth a try!

Do NOT put directly onto clothes that are in the washer. It will stain. I see all of these reviews with blue stains. They did not follow directions. You must either dilute the bluing in water before adding it to the washer or make sure your washer is moving/agitating (top loaders). ONLY use in the rinse cycle and no fabric softener. I've been using this for years and it is much better than any product or bleach. Bleach just breaks down fibers. I even use this for my lighter colored clothes and they always come out bright and new looking.

Bought these to help restore my sheets to clean white. I made sure to follow the directions and dilute prior to adding to the wash. First time I used it on severely yellowed bedding, some of it came out perfectly, but some of it was too yellowed and came out more grey instead of white. For those sheets, I soaked them in oxi clean and an enzyme wash for a few hours, then tried the bluing again, and it was perfect. In summary, works perfectly to retint your sheets, but you may have to bleach or lighten discolouration first to see desired results.
