Adam Chaplin: Extended Edition

I ordered this after reading a review in HorrorHound that said it was more violent than 'Story of Ricky'. Let me just say I was not disappointed!! The story of a man who makes a pact with a demon that lives in his shoulder to get revenge on his wife's murderers. Adam becomes a supernatural demonic killing machine and tears through a city of goons and thugs with his bare hands to get his revenge. Adam Chaplin: Violent Avenger is a return to bloody, stylized cartoonish violence that hasn't been seen in a while. This one has it all - amazing effects set pieces, a crazy story and unique look. There's even an homage to Cannibal Holocaust. Highly recommended for those that remember the golden days of gore in the mid to late '80's (Peter Jackson, Lucio Fulci, etc) check it out!

If you get this expecting taxi driver or the deer hunter, you are way off course. This is the video equivalent of a pulp fiction novel. No Oscars. No awards. Just bloody violent. In case you are wondering why the extended version runs short it is because it is wrong on the DVDs cover and so I can confirm this is the extended version. It 'runs about 10 mins longer than stated. Quality good.

This wacky movie features exciting visuals sure to please the gorehounds out there, but I just don’t feel the slog between the action is worth it for some of you unless you’re thrilled by exploitative lunacy. This is LOADED with ridonkulous, extreme gory action. After the torture and murder of his wife at the hands of a mutant Italian crime boss, Adam (Emanuele De Santi) sets out for revenge with something of a bath salt fever dream demon Muppet on his back whispering evils into his ear. Having made a deal with the forces of evil, Adam is nearly invincible and of Godly strength. Think of some extremely violent, very bloody, high action R-rated Anime… and then make it live action. You’d probably think of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) or Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl (2009) or any of many Tokyo Shock productions. Now make it with an Italian guy (Director and writer Emanuele De Santi; Judy)… and you have Adam Chaplin. This is a film that truly celebrates its gore in the spirit of Riki-Oh (1991). The imagery is absolutely grisly as faces collapse into punched-in skulls. I could just as readily describe this movie as the intersection of the utter madness of The Toxic Avenger (1984) and the dire vengeance The Crow (1994). Limbs are ripped off and blood geysers from their sockets, lower jaws are torn from skulls, heads are impaled with cleavers, a victim is split in two down the middle, and another gets “shafted” up his, well, rear shaft. Not just in its violence, but this is even cruel on a casual level. A mutilated giant of man lectures a bound woman of her offenses before lighting her on fire, quite graphically I might add. Great care is given to showcasing her charred remains. The film’s great downfall is that it takes itself and its script waaay too seriously. When it basks in its own violent absurdity, it thrives. When it focuses its lens on the investigation and motives of Adam, I flounder in insufferable boredom. And the boredom is not brief, but in long bounds. So despite some exciting visuals sure to please the gorehounds out there, I just don’t feel this slog is worth it for some of you of aren’t thrilled by exploitative lunacy. Sure, the finale is LOADED with ridonkulous gory action. And I get a good guilty snicker out of it here and there as this guy’s head is fractioned by a punch, another is shot in half, and another suffers horrendous limb breaks or severances. Like so many other scenes in this movie, the final fight is absolutely an anime boss fight. I think if this movie is for you, you ought to know it. Extreme gore is this film’s game.

Great film. Gory, animated, full of beatings the likes of which you probably haven't seen too many of. Characters are odd, deformed looking, almost like the camera that was used to film them was on acid. Storyline is great, acting is good, effects are awesome. A breath of fresh air for the splatter genre. I'd love to see more movies with the vigor that this displays. Truly worth viewing.

I recommend that you assure the squeamish that it's just dummies, animatronics, prosthetics and fake blood from hoses, buckets and bladders, before lending or recommending this movie to them. If campy, excessive violence and splatter are what you're after, Adam Chaplin delivers it not in small doses, but like a fat man's banquet. The over the top presentation borders on ridiculous, but maintains it in the stylish vein of ridiculously awesome. It's like one of those dreams that when you wake up, you're simultaneously relieved and disappointed that it wasn't real. Or was it? ;)

film Horror / splatter / fantasy che si rifà ai manga giapponesi più sanguinolenti stile (Ken il Guerriero). Nota per coloro che sono interessati nell'acquisto prendete l'edizione francese (quella presa da me) che dura 25 minuti della versione italiana e tedesca che dura 61 minuti ed completamente censurata, questa ad una prima visione integrale mi sembra completo senza censure....

"Wham, Bam-Thank you Adam" Im Vorfeld hatte ich schon einiges über ADAM CHAPLIN gehört und auch schon einen Trailer auf Youtube gesehen, und ich konnte es kaum erwarten diesen Film zu sehen! Emanuele de Santi's Debütfilm ist ein grandioser Film, produziert mit einem recht geringem Budget. Der Film ist hyperbrutal und bluttriefend;einer der besten Indiependent/Low Budget Movies den ich in den letzten Jahren gesehen habe-weit entfernt von der sogenannten "campiness". Man kann wahrlich sehen das de Santi eine bestimmte Vorstellung hatte wie sein Film aussehen sollte und es war ihm letztendlich sogar möglich den Film genau so umzusetzen. Die Produktions Firma Necrostorm vertraute ihm und ließ ihm vollkommene künstlerische Freiheit (was wohl auch daran liegen mag das der Inhaber von Necrostorm Emanuele's Bruder Guilio ist). Man kann sehen das Emanuele ein Fanboy ist und das Filme wie FIST OF THE NORTH STAR,STORY OF RICKY,BRAINDEAD und THE CROW ihn beinflußt und inspiriert haben. Aber er kopiert hier nicht einfach seine filmischen Inspirationsquellen; er nutzt diese als Nährstoff für seinen eigenen Film. Emanuele de Santi war bei seinem Debüt als "Ein-Mann-Armee" tätig und beschränkte sich nicht nur auf die Regie. Er führte Regie,schrieb das Script,arbeitet an den Special FX mit,schrieb und komponierte die Filmmusik und übernahm auch noch die Hauptrolle. Für den Film wurde von Necrostorm extra ein neues und spezielles Verfahren für die Special FX, welches von ihnen entwickelt wurde, benutzt.Diese Verfahren nennt sich H.A.B.S.(Hyperrealistic Anime Blood Simulation) und gibt den SFX einen sehr guten und einzigartigen Look. Was mir besonders gut gefällt ist die Tatsache das fast alle FX handgemacht sind und nicht am PC generiert wurden, das H.A.B.S. Verfahren am PC wurde nur genutzt um ihnen noch das I-Tüpflelchen zu verpassen. Aber auch die wenigen Digitalen Effekte die im Film eingesetzt wurden (einige Bullet Time FX, der strömende Regen oder die FX in der Endsequenz des Films) können sich wahrlich sehen lassen und brauchen sich nicht hinter irgendwelchen Hollywood Blockbustern zu verstecken! Die Story ist zwar nichts neues oder nichts total innovatives, aber im Jahr 2012 gibt es halt nicht mehr viel was nicht schon erzählt oder verfilmt wurde. Was den Film aber sehr empfehlenswert macht ist wie die Story, die FX, die Filmmusik und die Atmosphäre zur Einheit verschmelzen und den Film extrem unterhaltsam machen. Die Story des Films ist sichtlich von THE CROW und GOETHE'S FAUST beinflußt. Bei mir persönlich wurden auch Erinnerungen an Jim van Bebber's DEADBEAT AT DAWN geweckt. Zum einen weil die Story sich etwas ähnelt, aber auch durch die triste, graue,düstere und trostlose Umgebung in Adam Chaplin. Die Umgebung weckt aber auch Erinnerungen an die Postapokalyptischen Filme der 80ger aus Italien ( wie z.b. THE RIFFS,FIREFLASH oder METROPOLIS 2000). Der nebelige Blaufilter der in dem Film eingesetzt wurde hat wirklich dazu beigetragen das ganze Scenario noch glaubwürdiger und trostloser wirken zu lassen. Könnt ihr euch vielleicht noch an die Live Manga Verfilmung von FIST OF THE NORTH STAR mit Gary Daniels erinnern?Wart ihr damals nah der ersten Sichtung des Films auch so enttäuscht wie ich es war? Alles wird gut, denn ADAM CHAPLIN kann die Einflüße der Mangas & Animes nicht verneinen und so wie der Film abgeht hätte damals FIST OF THE NORTH STAR schon aussehen sollen! Auch die Darsteller sind alle gut gewählt und agieren überzeugen.Auch wenn es mnchmal wirkt als wäre es Overacting, ist dies bewusst denn im Film gibt es nicht einen einzigen normalen Charakter; die ganze Stadt ist voll mit Freaks und Mutanten die alle total überzogen wirken. Die Symbolik im Film dürfte auch für ziemlich jeden verständlich sein : Der Name des Landes ist Heaven Valley, aber man sieht überall umgedrehte Kreuze, fast jeder ist korrupt und das ganze Land wird von Gangstern regiert und kontrolliert. Dies ist alles sehr paradox da ein besserer Name wohl etwas wie "Hell Hole" wäre anstatt "Heaven Valley". Dem Großteil der Low Budget/Amateur Produktionen sieht man ja leider ihr Budget immer an, aber auch hiervon ist ADAM CHAPLIN meilenweit entfernt und das ist der Vorteil den der Film gegenüber anderen Produktionen der gleichen Preisklasse hat; man hat keinen Moment lang das Gefühl das es sich um eine Direct-to-DVD Produktion handelt die auf Digital Video für die Trashcorner der Videothek um die Ecke gedreht wurde. Ich persönlich liebe diesen Film und bin jetzt schon gespannt was die Crew um Emanuele de Santi, Guilio de Santi und Necrostorm in Zukunft (mit mehr Budget) noch alles abliefert. ADAM CHAPLIN ist wirklich sehr empfehlenswert und ich bin mir sicher wenn mehr Leute auf ihn aufmerksam werden könnte er mal eine sogenannter "Kultfilm" werden. Hier erwartet euch wirklich eine kurzweilige Splatter Achterbahnsfahrt die euch während des Konsums nur kurze Atempausen gewährt um danach die Goreschraube noch etwas fester anzuziehen! Also, holt euch eure DVD vom Film und habt eine "Hell of a time" in Heaven Valley!

No he tenido problema alguno con el envío, ni el estado del producto. Pero me quede muy decepcionada ya que la información que trae sobre el idioma es incorrecta. El audio es Italiano y los subtitulos en Francés, no como se indica en la información, que pone que tiene subtitulos en inglés, estos detalles deberían cuidarse un poco... Me quede con el porque era un regalo y la persona no quiso devolverlo, pero vamos menudo chasco
