Is there a way to turn off both devices? need tv (or both) to be turned off while using cable. grandparents don't understand inputs.

There is not a way to turn both devices off with the push of 1 button however if you push the TV button followed by the POWER button, then push the CBL button followed by the POWER button, you will have turned both programmed devices on or off. Will this work with direct TV?

If you are wanting a remote to use with Direct TV we would recommend remote GE 33709 or 33712 as those remotes have menu and arrow buttons. GE 33701 will work however this remote is meant for basic use (on/off, volume, channel input or up and down) and does not have directional arrow buttons or buttons to access the menus.
