Q: I assume you are breathing whatever chemical is given off - what is it and is that safe?

Pyrethrins are the most common insecticide in household use, they are toxic chemicals known to cause low level endocrine disruption, and they are fatal to cats. It's misleading to call this 'repellent'. The active ingredient doesn't ward off bugs, it kills them. This device will essentially encase you in a cloud of bug spray. As to the scaremongering statements about west nile virus, that simply isn't a concern in the US and most first world countries. Mosquitoes aren't the source of the disease, people are. If there isn't a widespread outbreak where you are, there's no chance you'll get it from being bitten.

Q: How affective is this while hiking - moveing around? Or is it meant to stay in a ceartain spot for it to work the 15' boundry?

It does help while hiking but is best if stationary.

Q: What is the gray half belt clip-glue covered thing stuck on the back for?? And how to remove it??

That’s for, if u decide to buy a holster to fit in your waistband or belt. My so. Hunts and we bought the holster so it would fit in his side.. the felt it there to protect the device and belt from rubbing
