It probably never will. I got the 1600AF at $85 but if I had to do it now with it being $105, I would spend the additional $15 and go with the 3300X for $120 at release. The 1600AF does slightly better than the 3300X in productivity apps but loses to the 3300X by a wide margin in gaming where it is on par with the 3600. See the Hardware Unboxed review of the 3100 and 3300X on YouTube and you can see in the graphs how the 1600AF fares.

MSI PRO B450-A PRO MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s ATX. No problems, despite the CPU not being listed (in AF variant) on the MSI approved CPU list. (With both v3 and v5 UEFIs.)

If motherboard supports 2000 series ryzen out of the box, will it be compatible with this ryzen 1600 af refresh chip?

The Ryzen 5 1600 Af is 12 nanometer but is manufactured to work in 1st gen boards. (A320/B350/X370) it does not require a bios flash
