Rugged and reliable
First impression, I don’t think these are the best crampons for wide toe boots. I bought the black diamond contact strap crampons for use with my Garamond T8 Bifida boots, size 11 with wide toebox. The toe piece ofblack diamond contact barely comes over the soul of the boot, and when putting them on and walking around the yard, both crampons tended to come off at the tow within a couple of steps. I’m going to try the Long flex center bar to see if that helps; these are recommended for boots larger than size 11’s or insulated boots larger than size 10, but judging by the width of the toe section, this piece may be too narrow to adequately contact the tip of the boot. Will provide updates to this post in future. [Update) I confess I did not read the users pamphlet, and while I was fiddling with them, trying to figure out how the new flex bars would be attached, I found the adjustment tab. I was able to adjust the crampons with the flex bars already on them and they fit over my boots perfectly, and I never used the long flex bars. I used the crampons and boots mentioned above to hike, the glacier on Mount Adams, and the crampons worked great. Rugged reliable!

Worked well, don’t use with keen style boots
Works great, just make sure you don’t have big rounded toe and heel co structure in your boot. A few of us did some alpine hiking in Colorado in June (snow) and needed these. Two of us had boots with rounded toe and heel rubber. Great for hiking but they don’t match well with these. They kept falling off. We ended up tightening them so hard that my toes of the boot bent up significantly and my foot arched backward. Only then did they stay on. Great product just get some boots that will work well with crampons if you’re really going to depend on them.

Great product
Really great product if you need spikes that are adjustable in size.

They do not fit 12 or above boots, without long flex center bars sold separately $45 dollars.
Very well built and versatile crampon. I bought these for PNW volcanos. If you have large feet or snowboard boots they will not fit without buying Long Flex Center Bars. I paid $45 at REI. This almost ruined my winter assent and snowboard down the worm flows route of Mt. Saint Helens. I got lucky REI said a customer who never picked up a set he ordered. So I drove an hour and a half to get them in time for my climb. Now they are perfect for my mixed sport boots! Online orders were weeks out. So order the larger bars right away to avoid this problem. I wear a size 12.5 for example. Happy and safe climbing!

Product halfway through recommmended life on receipt.
Check date of manufacture on receipt. Their recommended lifespan for the soft components is 10 years (typical stuff). The pair that was sent was 4 years old. I asked for replacement and received another pair of the same age.

Worked great!
I used these Black Diamond Contact Crampons to claim Mt. Saint Helens and they got me to the summit. Since I didn't have Mountaineering boots I was worried how this would work on a regular but sturdy pair of Danner hiking boots. They strapped on nicely without any movement and never loosened on the climb. they are extremely well made and easy to adjust. I would recommend a very sturdy soled hiking boot or better yet mountaineering boot for more technical climbs. Very happy with them and they will accompany me up South Sister very soon!

Okay, but not really wide enough for a snowboard boot.
I got these to use with my split-boarding boots (burton tourists). These have worked okay, but they are not really wide enough for a snowboard boot. The heal and the toe don't fit as snug as a thinner style of boot would.

but should be great even in the mountains in a British winter
Substainal and look extremely durable. Sadly I didn't get to use them on my trip due to altitude sickness. They'd been purchased for traversing across a Glacier at 22,000ft, but should be great even in the mountains in a British winter. Can't wait to try them properly

Grippy and safe, but break pants
Used these crampons for a winter hike in the Japan Alps: they did great with the hard-packed snow at 3,000m and I would definitely recommend them. Relatively lightweight and they stayed firm on my shoes, despite wearing them on soft trail runners! Only downside: any clumsiness that brings them in contact with your pants will produce a big hole in your goretex gear. They are sharp!
