Would this be a good engraver for stainless steel dog tags?

It would not engave on stainless. I used on clad aluminum and it wouldn't engrave

Is this engraver strong enough and with a fine enough point to engrave my name (size 12-16 font) into my running medals?

Yes. I’ve bought several of these. I’ve tried different tools including dremels. This seems to work the best. Practice on something else first. I’d also suggest writing in thin marker and then engraving over so you don’t make mistakes.

No, not really. If you were engraving a poem it might. I really like this, do a little practice with it so you get used to how it handles.I really like this engraver.
