It uses an external power adapter and the one I received handles that range of voltage input.

If sitting next to my bed, will the light remain on the iPad? Or will it turn of & lock. I would like it as a clock but need dark at night.

The iPad lights up initially when placed on the dock, then goes black and stays that way until you hit the main bottom button, or take it off the charging dock.

is this the same thing as the Hammacher Schlemmer one but $188 less? The dimensions are the same but the hammacher one doesn't specifically say Ipad2.

I don't know about whatever HS is showing, but if it's called a "LaunchPort" then it's the same thing. It doesn't matter if it's an iPad 2 or a 3/4, they're the same form factor and all have the 30-pin connector (not the LightningBolt connector on all the new Apple products and the new iPad Air).

I have a Crestron wireless remote for my media room. After several years, the remote started to malfunction frequently. It costs more than I expected to pay for this kind of product, but it is very functional and provided me the base I needed for the I-Pad that I use to run my home automation. Now I never need to worry to look for chargers or discover that the device is powered down on the moment that I need to use it. I recommend.

Item came broken. I tried to have it repaired but the cost was not worth it. By the time I got the item back from the repair shop the 30 day return period had passed.
