I had originally purchased this in December 2017, however due to shipping issues did not receive the product (Amazon was excellent to deal with and refunded my purchase). I was lucky enough to find it locally however a short time after, and installed it myself within 10-15 minutes on a 2017 Ford F150. Living in Atlantic Canada, the weather here can be temperamental, and salt is routinely used on our roads during icy conditions. I'm quite happy to say though, that 3 years after installing this item, it is still working well without any issues and is holding up well physically. There has been minimal noise so far, and the tailgate descent on opening remains the same now as it did right out of the packaging. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase, and if this unit started to give trouble, I would certainly purchase another (although given the good quality of the product, I can't see this happening soon). If your truck does not come equipped with this type of device, I would recommend installing this based on my experience; it definitely mitigates the risk of accidentally dropping the tailgate.
