Try it out for yourself
I saw many reviews on these knives, and I have a lot of experience with products like this, but I think those reviews ma have oversold the product. It's still five stars, between design and value for money, but I managed my expectations and thus was not disappointed. The initial sharpness is good, but not exceptional. Some reviewers scrape their arms and consider that shaving. Maybe my standards are too high, but I don't consider shaving sharpness a factory requirement. On top of that, the edge holding is good for the steel used. I did some light work removing twigs from larger branches that I cleared from my property, and I found the edge just barely sways from straight when viewed in a certain light. It is extremely mild malformation and the knife is still completely functional. I took it out another time, this time to split and chop a bit, and no further edge damage occurred. the handles, however, did shift very slightly. Once again, it's not to any meaningful extent, but you can now detect the roughness of the tang in spots on the handle where it barely protrudes from the scales. This is barely visible, but much more apparent by touch. The knife hits a great price point and I am not returning it, as I quite enjoy the design. The trend of sharpened pry bars is behind us but much strength is afforded by the broad flats of a scandi ground blade. The square spine, classic profile, and medium length give me the feeling that students of Dave Canterbury would love this product. All this and I haven't mentioned the sheath. This is the feature that no review has oversold. It's excellent, and worth the price on its own. I still give this knife, ignoring the great sheath, five stars for being built to a price point the right way. Back when the Mora Bushcraft black and Garberg were released, I was quite disappointed by their thicker stock and obtuse bevels, and I'm a huge Mora proponent (2000, ProS, an 510 being my favorites). This BPS is the bigger, badder, affordable scandi you want.

The best knife for my money.
Got an awesome camp-knife while supporting our Ukraine neighbors! Built like a tank. Think heavy and overbuilt... nice. Near razor sharp, out of the box. Not a finely polished finish; it is a camp knife, after all. I think the knife and scabbard/sheath should last 3 lifetimes. Very great value. NOT chineeze... hurray!

Blade poetry in your hands.
Just another outstanding specimen from BPSKNIVES. The HK5 is a cross between a combat knife and a outdoors knife. The wood handles were cut perfectly to align with the 1066 high carbon steel full tang blade. I have large hands and it feels like the grip was made custom for them. The steel is a good thickness and weight, the scandi grind was done perfectly even and wickedly sharp. As always the leather sheath is premium and should hold of for a generation or two at least. For the price you will never beat this thing. It doesn't claim to be anything it is not, rather it excels at everything it claims to be.

Outstanding blade!!!!
I have been truly impressed by the quality and craftmanship that are in the BPS knives. Most of the5which can be said about the "5" has been said, so I won't be going into too much detail. They are reliable, steady and made of quality steel and wood. The money they want for them is MORE than fair, and the sheathes are made of quality leather. I will say that while they are quality woodcraft knives, but i like a little more heft when it to bushcraft knives. But there is no question that these knives are more than capable of handling any task set before it. , BUY ONE or 5 these knives are OUTSTANDING!!!! Took it out into the woods and used it for a couple of days. It was very comfortable and was perfect for all of the tasks it was called upon to complete. The blade is very sharp and is tough. The handle is great for fit, and due to the finger slots it is adaptable to different needs. I used it for splitting wood and for processing food-breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Made a tripod for the fire, no problem, and cut up meat and vegetables fast and accurate. Buy one of these knives for your gear, it is well worth the money. I do wish that BPS would make 6" knives. The extra inch of so would make a difference in a few tasks.

Actually better than the price!
To start, I'm a knife freak. I've collected, carried, and used many knives over the years. I know from personal experience, no one knife covers every task, and if one has to choose one knife one has to weigh various attributes. I carry for hunting, camping, hiking, self-defense, and just walking about (EDC). I have my favorites based upon what the task is for that moment. Morakniv, KaBar, BTKaBar... I chose this knife as I was looking for a "finger-gripped" handle. I've only owned a few over the years and have never really loved any of them. The price was low enough, the reviews decent enough, and the steel and grind acceptable enough to take the chance. So; Pros: 1) Blade is better than any other sub-fifty dollar kinfe on the market. Moraknivs have better steel at a lower price, but they're nowhere near as thick or wide. I'm not a fan of clip-point blades and prefer drop-point, but this one falls in between. Scandi grind is beautiful! Forget the other reviews that say this is not a true Scandi grind. Mine is absolutely a Scandi grind. Out of the box sharp enough to shave. One of the first things I did was lay it on a whetstone. Level across the full bevel! 1066 is a decent steel, and I have no doubt it will keep it's edge, and take an edge if it needs a touch-up. 2) Grip is okay (see Cons below), but not the best. I like the Walnut and the form. I have weird hands. I'm a large or extra large in gloves. Long fingers that are narrow. Out of the box, it feels really good in my hands. I can grip it really firmly and it feels good as I ran it through some wood to make a feather stick. It definitely feels secure, but...(see Cons below). 3) Sheath!!! Okay, here's an odd thing, I would pay this price for the sheath alone! The leather is heavy grade. Thicker than any other sheath that I didn't make myself. It's well stitched and well finished. As a leatherworker, I'm very impressed! It's a tight fit out of the box, which is nice as I know that it won't get loose after the "break-in" period. I'm not so happy with the two options of belt loops as the upper one should have been made with a snap to remove so that if one wanted to use the lower carry option there wouldn't have been that extra loop slapping against my hip. Not big deal, just one of those areas they could have improved. Still, a very high quality sheath that outshines any other sub $50 rig. Cons: 1) Scales. While the Walnut is nice, it seems like they just cut the wood, sanded it (?) and mounted it on the tang. It's smooth on the outer areas, but rough in the finger grooves. It's sanded smooth, but not finished. Grabbing the knife is both secure, but weirdly uncomfortable. This is an easy fix as the screws are simple to remove, and I plan on pulling the scales and sanding them down better. Perhaps even dress up that Walnut with a darker stain and a satin finish. Overall: Damn... I want to give this knife a five-star rating, but because I have to fix the handle/scales to make it more comfortable, 4.5 is my grade.

Solid. A lot of knife for the money. Very nice sheath, too.
I wear a men's large glove and the grip feels great in my hand. The blade is clearly sturdy and the design is no-nonsense. Unlike Mora knives in this price range, the sharp-edged spine will throw a good shower of sparks from a ferro rod. The sheath is exceptionally well crafted. The value here seems exceptional. I would and probably will buy another BPS knife. Mine arrived with dry-looking scales, which was fine with me - - a few drops of boiled linseed oil brought them to life. Would feel confident having this as my survival knife.

Comparable to much more expensive knives
I've seen several bushcraft and camping presenters use BPS belt knives. Not fancy, rugged, utilitarian, very sharp out of the box. Big, thick full tang blade with comfortable walnut scales. Excellent leather sheath. There are plenty of more expensive knives of this type. Easily comparable.

A really great deal!
I received my BPS HK5 knife today and was very pleased from the start! This is my 4th BPS knife and I have not been disappointed with any of them. Razor sharp out of the box. Slight stropping made it scary sharp. I have medium sized hands and the handle feels good to me. The finger grooves give a firm grip. There is an indention on the top front of the handle that fits your thumb. Nice touch! This will help when carving downward. Definitely a more beefy knife than my other BPS knives. Full tang and thicker blade. I am able to strike a fire steel with the bottom or top of the lanyard ring as well as the back of the blade. The leather sheath is reinforced with a few more rivets than my earlier knives. Over all this is a great knife. The price makes it a fantastic deal. My 4 BPS bushcraft knives cost around $100! I highly recommend them!
