I have several. This book provides an excellent background on MAC OS X. For those interested in peaking beneath the covers of OS X, you will find the familiar UNIX files and structure. The book is well organized and easy to read. Review: A useful book - The book does a good job of describing how the bash shell interacts with macOS and the Terminal app. For example it tells how to copy a path from Finder into the Terminal window and how to customize Terminal. It says a little about using AppleScript from Terminal. I found the book to be useful. The book is the Second Edition, in 2016. But was it fully updated? It mentions "ftp" command, which is superseded by sftp. There is a point of confusion. It uses the following terms interchangeably: • root • admin • administrator user • superuser The book is good as an introductory source and mentions some advanced subjects, but often does not go into enough detail to use those subjects.

The blue pill or the red pill
O’Reilly books are the best. I have several. This book provides an excellent background on MAC OS X. For those interested in peaking beneath the covers of OS X, you will find the familiar UNIX files and structure. The book is well organized and easy to read.

Really good for those wanting to get a little more out of their Macs
This is a well written book that explains things from the ground up, that will get beginners (like me) using the command line to do basic things on the Mac within hours. I really enjoyed the clear explanations of things.

Great intro to the bash shell / terminal for Mac users. I recommend it to everyone on my team.

Still useful today
This book was written years ago, and many things have changed since. However, much of the information the author presents is still useful and can be very helpful for a macOS admin, developer, or even power user. I would still recommend it even at the end of 2022.

I just received this book the other day and even though I have been learning about Unix for the past several months, I was able to pick up this book and after only a few pages, I learned something new.

Great Value
Great for begginers. I really wanted to know how Mac OS works. I been using since Mac OS since 2006.

Good read
This was really good. I've been using windows OS mostly over the years so been fascinated to look into using OS X. I felt the book was fairly well guided for beginners. I would definitely recommend the book to anyone looking to getting started who haven't used the OS X terminal before.

Good for learning Unix
This book is pretty good for learning Unix if you have a MacBook. I have read some parts of it, and it is great.

Ritengo di avere effettuato un ottimo acquisto. Si tratta di un libro che spiega in modo esaustivo, con precisione senza scendere nel tecnicismo astruso, tutte le possibilità offerte dall'interfaccia a carattere del Terminale e delle altre funzioni UNIX sottostanti il sistema operativo OS X. Anche se non è aggiornato all'ultima versione di OS X, il testo risulta attuale e completo. Lo consiglio a tutti quelli che voglio conoscere di più su UNIX ed avere anche la possibilità di accrescere la loro competenza informatica, velocizzando determinate operazioni, che l'interfaccia a carattere semplifica e velocizza.
