Improve Your Social Skills is a comprehensive, practical guide to social skills. It contains 200+ pages of step-by-step, easy-to-understand explanations of social interaction, written by a professional social skills coach whose TEDx talk on overcoming the social challenges of Asperger's Syndrome has been viewed over 180,000 times. You'll learn how to: Make Conversation (and keep conversation flowing smoothly!) Read Body Language (and send positive signals with your own body language!) Meet New People (and make friends with them!) Tell Stories In Conversation (that don't bore your audience!) Combat Shyness And Social Anxiety (a little courage every day adds up!) Date Successfully (without manipulation or sneaky tricks!) And More! (lots more!) Ok, enough with the bullet points. I'm Dan Wendler, and I wrote the book. I wrote it because I believe everyone deserves a place to belong and I didn't want poor social skills to hold anyone back from friendship and community. even if they struggle with social skills. I know firsthand how hard it is to struggle socially. Growing up, I was bullied, harassed, and excluded -- no matter how hard I tried to fit in. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome that I put the puzzle pieces together. I realized I struggled socially because I didn't have any social skills -- and just like any other skill, social skills can be learned. So I started to learn them. It took hard work, but I soon started to see improvement in my ability to interact with others. Eventually I was able to start making wonderful friends and today I feel comfortable and confident in all sorts of social interactions. On January 1st, 2012, I launched ImproveYourSocialSkills.com to share what I'd learned with the world. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the site every year, and I'm excited to help even more with the Improve Your Social Skills Kindle guide. The guide you're about to read is a compilation of the social principles I've learned during my lifetime of personal social skills study, as well as the techniques I developed while offering hundreds of hours of social skills coaching. These principles led me to a life full of close friendship, satisfying connection, and tender romance. I believe that with these principles, you can live a life full to the brim with friendship, connection, and love. I hope that after reading Improve Your Social Skills, you'll believe that too. Review: Helpful Book - This is not your usual learning how to make conversation book. The author writes simply and is very encouraging. I now have a better understanding of conversational skills and am putting to use what I learned here. My only complaint is that this book, as well as many others I have read lately, needs better proofreading! Years ago you never saw mistakes in a book. Now I find mistakes all the time. What's going on? Review: Interesting and Informative - All in all a very interesting read, it covered a wide range of topics like meeting and making friends, romantic relationships, conversation skills and what to look for in a good and bad relationship. A good general book on how to interact with people and live a healthy and happy life. Not to many details if your looking for specifics in a particular area but a good overall foundation if you're unsure of what being social is all about. The book also provides a couple of nice tips and examples on the things it covers. Its a good starting point, however further reading is required if there is a particular area in your social skills you are really trying to improve though.

Read it and then go do it!
An amazing book full of great resources. Even if you think you already have a handle on social skills, which I do, you can still learn a lot from this amazing guide. Being proactive about getting better at interacting with other people is great and the author really encourages the readers to go out and practice being social, and putting his words into action. You get out of the book what you put into it, so I suggest devoting time and effort into this book so you can Improve Your Social Skill!

decent Read
Not bad. It felt repetitive to most I've just heard in public speaking classes. But hey, still a good red.

Unlike Any Other Guide
While many guides will tell you to go out and make friends, or to engage someone in conversation, or to make eye contact, they don't explain exactly how to go about each of those activities. In Improve Your Social Skills, author Daniel Wendler breaks down each component of social interaction in a way that is friendly, understandable, and practical. While many guides meticulously go through each and every body signal a person may project, this guide simply breaks down body language into two categories - "open" and "closed." Done! Now instead of over-analyzing someone's body language, I can focus on the other person and the conversation! While many guides promote tricks and gimmicks to put people down and artificially project confidence, Improve Your Social Skills stresses the importance of respect and relationship. I don't have to pretend to be someone else or put on airs or play a part. Instead, this guide encourages me to be my best self and make fruitful and lasting friendships with others to help them be their best selves, too. Although it would have been nice to see some tips or examples regarding workplace behavior and professionalism, I love this guide for the subjects it does cover. This guide is unlike any other, and I can't recommend it enough.

Incredibly helpful, with issues that don't really matter.
This book has great info, and it's very helpful for those who are lacking with social skills. This book is contains advice and lessons about being able to simply socialize, and is not based too much on advanced concepts; it is fundamental. This book is a good book. However, it would have been a great book if it weren't for the grammar mistakes. The grammar mistakes don't effect someone's ability to learn and understand the information from the book since they are minor and not very repetitive, but I still believe that most people would recommend some revision to really improve what this book has to offer. It's not perfect, but it is incredibly helpful.

I am grateful for this book
I was looking for a book to give to my daughter to help her with her social skills. She is 14 and does not have a diagnosis, but had shared with me that she struggles with certain social skills ( such as being aware that the feelings of others might be different than her own, or how to support a friend who is going through a difficult time). A lot of the books out there about improving your social skills are either too clinical, aimed at younger kids, or are meant for professionals looking to network better. I read this through before giving it to my daughter. I like the author's overall approach and the constant emphasis on sincerity and kindness in relationships. He presents social skills in terms of fairly easy to remember principles, rather than a lot of theory, abstract ideas, or case studies (there are some personal examples though). Although the target audience seems to be young adults, I found that it was very appropriate for my daughter. I was a little nervous about the chapter on relationships, but was relieved that the author's values align fairly well with my own and I felt comfortable with my daughter reading it. My daughter hasn't shared with me her thoughts about it ( but that's par for the course with her) but she was happy about the idea of having a book to refer to. It was actually a revelation to her that social skills are something that she can learn more about and get better at. I work in the special education field, and I will be recommending this book to students and parents.

Practical Tips
While I was expecting some more deep information concerning probable body language or speaking I found that the most part it has very straight forward and practical day to day information, I can tell that I've put in practice many lf them and they actually work, I really enjoyed the book and I think I'll get back to it to review some points that I may have missed.

Super excellent guide to socializing!
On the first day of university at a new school I found myself no longer surrounded by people I had known all my life - I was thrown into the world of having to make friends. I found that as the first few days went by I was having trouble talking to people. I kept getting really nervous and for a long time just avoided social interaction all together. Eventually I came to this realization that something needed to change and so, as we all do, I ventured out in search of help on the internet. Eventually I came across this guide and found both the means and the motivation to make these changes! I found this guide to provide a novel, concise, and meaningful interpretation of how to handle social interactions. It's written such that reading it is both entertaining and informative! Improve your Social Skills goes a step beyond just saying what you should do or what socializing should look like and breaks everything down to their elements. This has the effect of simplifying a lot of the complex components of socialization which are often found to be quite daunting. The first example of this which comes to mind is the section about body language. It's often hard to juggle a conversation while trying to meaningfully interpret body language - especially when you don't have 10 minutes to spend tracking their eye movements and such. This guide has made body language something that I can fluidly incorporate into socializing which, as I've discovered, has made a big difference. So essentially if you're looking for an engaging, periodically amusing, and concretely structured way to improve your social skills then this guide is what you need!
