Need to be creative and open minded to attempt these builds with your own Legos. The inventory of possible lego pieces is infinite, most people do not have every thing they need to replicate a picture in here. It does get you thinking though, and it is fun to just explore how to modify the design with your own inventory. If you are looking for instructions, or the simplest of sets that you could definitely build with your random Legos, you will be frustrated, but I don't think that is the purpose of the book. For use with children, it is a great opportunity to teach and demonstrate creativity, flexibility and patience. It is easy for a child to get frustrated when they don't have the exact pieces shown, or disappointed that theirs does not match the picture. We use our book to examine building techniques and get ideas, and just fun eye candy. Not to try to replicate the builds shown. Review: good for ideas! - I got this as an extra birthday gift for my son and his boys, ages 7 and 4. Happily, he has never outgrown his love of LEGOs & the 2 little ones are happily following in their father's footsteps. So between their playroom @ home & the playroom we have set up here @ our house, I guess you could say that we must have AT LEAST one, maybe two million LEGOs?? ...maybe more, I don't know. And this book has some wonderful ideas in it for kids of all ages. I'm thinking of getting a second copy to keep here for whenever the other grandchildren are over ~ so far with a total of six, going on seven of them, I know it will see years of use!! Any time I find anything to do with building, imaginative play, exploring...well, I guess you know where my heart is at.......

Lego Play Book is Fantastic
I bought this book for my son for Christmas. He loves Legos and loves looking at designs. This book is full of design ideas. There is so much to look at that it would take days to look at all of them. The pictures are excellent in this book and it is very high quality. This book has ideas that will appeal to all ages, from children to adults. I am not as big of a Lego fan as he is but even I enjoy looking with him. The book has a paper book jacket on it, and my son always takes those off, but the cover of the book is sturdy and has all of the color / design detail of the book jacket. A great purchase!!!

Great purchase
We gave this to our just-turned-5 year old son for his birthday. He took one look at it and said, "Wow, a book to give me ideas about my legos!" He loves looking at the pictures and has memorized parts that my husband has read to him. The minifig dialogue balloons are also simple enough for his beginning reading skills and quite funny (though some of the humor has to be explained to him). Up til now he has been obsessed with superhero Legos, but he has just requested another Lego idea book with more "real life" stuff (yay). He is currently sleeping with this book. Our son is not interested in exactly copying the ideas in the book at this point. This is probably partly his age, partly his personality type. However I do not think that any of the ideas in the book require step-by-step directions. You can pretty much tell by looking at the pictures what sort of bricks to use. I did stalk eBay lego lots until I found one that was 12 lbs of random Legos for $65. This resulted in enough Legos, I think, to do a decent approximation, if not copy of, anything in the book. (After researching lego organization for weeks, I also purchased 4 sets of Sterilite drawers (Sterilite 3-Drawer Organizer 2093). Unlike the official Lego organizer drawers, the Sterilite version have the advantage of not easily pulling completely out, which prevents mass dumping.) There are some minifigs in the book like a Frankenstein and a skeleton that would need to be purchased separately. Not having these has not bothered our son, however, who makes his own characters by drawing faces and outfits on paper, cutting them out, and taping them to his existing minifigs. Very happy with this book.

It is a cute book and full of fun creations using legos
I have mixed feelings about this book. It is a cute book and full of fun creations using legos. However, you need a LOT of legos to be able to make most of these things. For a child who is just getting interested in legos and doesn't have a large collection yet there aren't a lot of things he/she would be able to build. Also, this book does not give instructions on how to build things, more just pictures of what you can build. My 7 year old likes to have directions he can follow and I thought this book would actually should HOW to make things, not just pictures of what you can make. Overall it is a good book, it definitely opens the door of his imagination to come up with lots of things he can make and imagine with his legos, it just isn't quite what I had in mind when I ordered the book.

A Great Gift Idea!
My son who is an engineer suggested that I get this book for my seven-year-old grandson... so I did! We won't know until after Christmas if he likes it, but my son will probably like it he's had Lego since 1976.

Great for expanded ideas from your Legos
I thought this is a great book to expand the minds of children while building. The book is broken into themes. Then it shows ideas from them to simple ones to more complex. The children were very inspired by the ideas right away giving them a new way to look at some of their pieces that were already in their collection. A wonderful overview of the direction that you could take your building based on different themes. My kids love it and started building right away...the Centar from a Lego minifigure top and bottom with a two by 8 brick in the middle then adding another pair of legs to the back. They are currently working on the beach houses. Lots of fun.

Go Online for free inspirations
The book is supposed to serve as an inspiration to build. However, most of the builds requires a large library of Lego parts That is not something you can get from buying a few boxes of Lego. Many built requires cannibalizing theme sets or parts from pick a brick etc. It’s one thing to inspire kids, it’s another to show them a cool build and says sorry, you have to make do with what you have or spend another couple of hundreds of dollars acquiring parts online, bricks of similar color so that a castle wall is grey in color and not the rainbow colors building sets tends to have In my opinion, this book is targeted more for Adults Fan of Lego rather than kids. Kids probably can build less than 10% of inspired theme. I like it for the cool ideas and pictures I don’t like it because you will need to spend to acquire parts for even a moderate difficulty built. Maybe there should be a book that gives you ideas of what you can build from 2 boxes of Lego Creative bucket 10622, 1 box of Lego ultimate building set, 1 wheel set and 1 roof, door and window set If you want inspiration, one can go online for free and look at fans build (some with instructions) and even Lego Ideas is an avenue for good inspirations.

A great book for lego lovers of all ages!
I bought this book for my 7 year old son who loves Lego and anything to do with Lego, he really likes the book to look through and plan on what to build. This book is equally enjoyed by his 4year old sister and both will sit together nicely and look through the book so I'm very glad I bought it and will buy more of the similar books by Lego!

見るだけで楽しい
英語版が安かったので購入しました。 5才の息子は本の作品と同じものを作りたがりますが、パーツが揃ってなくて作れないのが残念です。でも、見てるだけでもワクワクします。
