can these be used to watch owls and other birds at night?

Hi, not at all. It is a kids toy. I really don't know why it got so many stars. You cannot see in the dark with these. Only if there was a light shinning on the object, you would be able to see it. But otherwise not. The light on the binnaculars shines 15- 20 feet, so you might get a glimpse of owl before it flew away and if it was low enough in the tree:)
