When at 90°, can you use the rotating handle to press the drill horizontally? The videos mainly show the drill reaming stationary, used as a grinder

Thank you for your patience in asking questions. The handle can only control the up and down movement of the clamping part, but not left and right. At 90°, you can still control the gripping part to move up and down, but not horizontally.

Will this hold a Black and Decker corded dril, 5.5 amp 3/8 inch model, as sold on amazon?

It might, I tried it with a Milwaukee 3/8 18 v o luck get the $ 249 Theo offer

What is the diameter of the vertical support? Is a longer shaft available? I need 2 ft. between the chuck and the base. Can I use 1" steel pipe?

The drill press is less than 2 feet. If you are thinking to replace the vertical length of it, I think it is too much trouble because there is other components that need to be considered. One thing you should know. The spring attachment that operates the pull down got separated internally and I can’t fix it. I’m disappointed with the drill press.

can it handle a 2" Forstner bit? or will the drill pop of the stand?

I suspect the drill will pop out. The way the unit is constructed, it wants to pull the drill down. Most good drill press are just that - they press the drill into whatever you want to drill. My belief is that you would be better off spending more money to get a more reliable drill press.
