Worth their weight in gold!
When going out, even for what you think is a day trip, taking a water purification method is critical. This is one of those items that you can take and never notice it's there, until you need it. When you need it, it will not fail you! That said, when packing for a trip this is always better complimented with some form of ceramic filter, or other filtering system (as is noted on the product page as well.) That is because the chlorine dioxide will kill anything harmful in the water, and your filter will ideally remove any particulate. The treated water has a minimal taste, which is even lessened or removed if filtered after treatment. Not to go too far into technique and practice; this will fit nicely in a small pouch (throw the instructions on too!) with water filter, and a bag for holding your water while you treat it. If you don't already having a bag only for dirty water, that folds small, is something you might want to add to your list! Coming back to the product! These are tried and true "Potable Aqua" has ben around my whole life, and are a trusted name brand for outdoor enthusiasts and those who find themselves in places with unreliable water filtration.

Peace of mind in a small package
These tablets are a must for camping, hiking, or emergency kits. Easy to use, no weird taste, and they work great for treating questionable water. Lightweight and reliable—exactly what you want when clean water isn't guaranteed.

Go for these 4 Hours, not the 35 min
Im happy with my purchase, the expiration date was fine but was hesitant because of some folks getting old stock, so bought just one pack but ended up getting more locally to make sure to get some fresh ones. I would go with these rather than the 35 min ones for several reasons- the 35 min tablets do not protect you against some viruses... and the biggest one they dont take care of is cryptosporidium which causes bad stomach issues and one of the more common waterborne illnesses. The 4 hour tablets protect you against more, is EPA approved (unlike the others) and im ok with waiting because I also carry a pocket stove and can have safer water by boiling in 5 min compared to 35 min tablets. Dont fall for expensive filters, these and boiling are some of your best and most affordable options as well as lightweight and take next to no space.

Great for Trekking
I personally used these for a two month journey through Central Asia that at one point involved two weeks without bottled water (during trekking, traveling). I used these tablets on water I gathered from streams and occasionally from water gathered from wells that looked suspect (i.e., from the plumbing in people's homes). I drank water of various colors (brown, blue and clear), and I never got sick once, which I think proves the authenticity of these tablets (or that I am lucky). I cannot comment on the taste of the water, because typically the taste of water was the last thing on my mind. If you are thirty, you will drink it. That said, I do not remember the tablets ever causing a strongly undesirable taste (when I used it on water from people's homes). The only time I noticed a pungent taste was when the water was noticeably foul looking, because it was the only source I could get. Ironically, the water I suspected most came from a crap hotel in China that accepted Pakistani rupees (no ATM in town). I am quite sure the taste was not a side-effect of the tablets. A few notes: I had a 2-L Camelback (technically Platypus) I stuck two tablets in and a 1.5 L plastic bottle (the disposable kind) that I stuck only one tablet in, since I figured the tablets had a safety factor. I probably filled the bottle 1.3-1.4 L's up. I waited at least 4 hours before drinking after dropping the tablets in, and would alternate with my Platypus/bottle. In one instance I only waited 2 or 3 hours for the water in my Platypus (which had two tablets), but the water "looked fresher." The tablets are highly portable. I stuck them in my mini-first aid kit. They are significantly cheaper than other alternatives, and protect against virtually everything. You also do not have to worry about iodide poisoning with these. For these reasons, I prefer these tablets to others, even if there is a four hour wait. Keep the iodide tablets for emergencies, and use these tablets for more "regular" use.

Treated water tastes like highly chlorinated tap water
For several years I have been drinking reverse osmosis filtered water only, at home and at work. I carry two or three liters of it to work with me every day for that purpose. My tap water is lightly chlorinated and not fluoridated. The untreated tap water tastes good, and the RO filtered water tastes great. I got these tablets for use on trips but decided to test them first with RO filtered water to find out how they affect water taste and see if I have any adverse reaction to drinking it. My Results Tablets received on time and not even close to expiration date. Tablets are easy to use as directed and dissolve with fizzing action like Alka Seltzer in about four minutes. I followed directions and used one tablet per liter of RO water, using both glass bottles and stainless steel bottles. While tablets are dissolving a stream of bubbles rise from it and creates a mild distinctly chlorine odor. In the clear glass bottles used I could see the water was clear and white and colorless before treatment and clear and very slightly yellow/brown after treatment. Ten minutes after treatment the treated water tastes like highly chlorinated tap water. I have tasted worse in numerous municipalities here in USA. 36 hours later the taste is unchanged, highly chlorinated. In the past 36 hours I have drunk three of the four liters I treated and have had no noticeable physical consequences. The stainless steel bottles were not corroded or stained by the tablets. These tabs are very small and light and I look forward to carrying them with me on my next trip and being protected from pathogens in the water.

Helped with my senior dog's bad breath - short term...
I noticed that the chemical in this product (Chlorine Dioxide) is the same as the main ingredient in very spendy dog-water additive intended to address bad breath, so I decided to try this for my old dog instead. The first day, I just used one tablet to treat one quart of tap water. The chemical smell was very strong, and a quart is not enough water for a day. The next day, I decided to boil two quarts of filtered water, let it cool, add one tablet and present it after half an hour. I figured, that way there would surely still be active, residual chemical to help with the bad breath problem. This seems to be the way to go. The chemical smell is not too strong. My dog drinks the water readily, and my cat prefers it to her water dish. The difference in my old dog's breath was noticeable within 24 hours, and her problem with bowel incontinence has also improved. UPDATE: Over time, I believe using the product this way may have interfered with my dog's beneficial gut fauna. Her incontinence problem got much worse. I stopped using this product for a couple of days, and the situation improved. Based on that experience, I would say it's OK to use this as I have for a week or two at a time, but not full time and not without breaks. She has recovered now with the addition of some probiotics to her diet, and we have changed to parsley in the food and a bit of fresh ginger in the water for bad breath. Not quite as effective, but much better for her.
