Quality, thorough method, perfect for teenage beginner
So happy with this curriculum for my 13-year-old daughter. So glad our piano teacher suggested it. As a graduate of a music school in piano and voice, I was eager for my fourth child to learn piano, but didn’t have the training to teach her myself. She had a late start because of our busy family life, but she is learning quickly and covering all the essentials. And she’s also having fun; the teacher/student duets are great. I am pleased with the theory training she is getting, even being exposed to positive experience with improv and ear training in the first book that she has almost finished in six months.

Used for a middle school piano student
Due to Covid, and teaching middle schoolers for the first time, I didn't want to start at the 'very, very beginning.' So, I opted for this set. The four (five?) books in the series have MORE THAN ENOUGH material for at least a year (or more?!) but there are some foundational pedagogical elements in this, that any piano teacher could start from here, and bring a student starting at this late (8th grade) date, up to snuff, in short order. Some of the initial pieces for 'review' are too hard for a total beginner, but they can be returned to, once the student masters Note names (A-G), Treble/Bass clefs (and L/R hand positions) and how to hold the hand for optimum positioning for beginning pentascales. The drawings are not 'babyish' and the information about technique (lifting, and positioning on the keyboard) have already given the student awareness of their place at the piano. The only negative I have (having my own children learn piano, using a Suzuki-trained pedagogue) is that the 'level' of music is decidedly below par. I would have wished for some 'real' music in the book, rather than the 'arranged by' selections, which (IMHO) merely 'drag out' moving to more complex repertoire. But that can be fixed by other books of pieces by composers readily on the market. So... a bit of 'overkill' with the books? Possibly, but for a new teacher whose first instrument is NOT piano, these will suffice for this academic year.
