Fun game!
My 7 y.o. loves this game! She is usually self-limiting with her Switch time or electronic time in general. She plays for a little while and then wants to get off to do other stuff. I actually have to limit her play time when she plays this game! Maybe it is a little too fun and addicting. Haha.

major problem
The game started off fun and continued to be, but after I complete the story objective in old town it only allowed me to return to the beach and won't let me go anywhere else. So has anyone had that same problem and how did you solve it, or does anyone have any ideas to solve it.

Disappointed
In my opinion, this game did not look interesting when it was first advertised and in all of the follow up advertisements, it just looked worse and worse. I have only played one Bakugan game and that was the original one for the Nintendo DS, which was awesome. I was hoping for something like that experience here. Instead, it is a low quality game that stripped away most of what makes Bakugan unique and entertaining and relies on nostalgia to sell the game. I bought this game on Black Friday for $25 because I was definitely not going to pay more than that for the game itself. Here are some of the disappointments of the game: 1. Graphics - yes this is Nintendo, so graphics haven’t been as sharp as other gaming systems, but the graphics here look no better than what one would find on a smartphone app or on the Nintendo DS. I mean Nintendo did give us Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so we do know that very good graphics on the Switch are possible. 2. Bakugan - there are only five types / factions of Bakugan in the game itself. Whatever happened to “earth” (the brown ones) from the original game? Also, there are only a handful of different Bakugan for each color and they are just repeated for each color. Very lazy (yes they had this in the origin game, but it worked for that game because they were supported by a good story, gameplay, graphics, and everything else. This game appears to just do the bare minimum in order to get by. Also, the player must find all of his Bakugan in the game instead of buying them through shops. That is tedious and is good to make it a part of the game, but not as the main source of acquiring Bakugan. Very limited in the number and selection of Bakugan available. 3. Gameplay - gameplay is clunky at best. Most missions involve running around to find people and tell them to go home. The map does not give the player enough information in order to accomplish certain missions and the graphics most certainly do not help one in seeing the tasks or items to be acquired. Also, if you do all the side quests and the main story, the gameplay is only about 22 hours. That is sad for a modern Switch game. Also, the game does not give you info on most details of Bakugan abilities, attacks, type matchups, etc. I found myself looking online fairly constantly in order to figure out what the abbreviations in the game were talking about. The dialogue in the game is also bad and quite annoying. It felt like it was quickly rushed. 4. No incentive - there is no incentive to change up your Bakugan team from the original three that you acquire (your starter, a light, and the dinosaur dark one) that are acquired early in the game. These three can pretty much crush any of the competition that you find. The game also does not tell you enough info about what level your Bakugan is, experience points, etc. You have to go to many different screens in order to find out this information. No incentive to acquire more Bakugan other than the original three, nor to buy the abilities (attacks) for your Bakugan other than the three colors of Bakugan that you acquire early in the game. You can easily beat the game with three different types of Bakugan that you acquire early in the game. Also, it is extremely hard to level up other Bakugan because battles, while somewhat popular, do not always give you experience. Only like one out of every three to four battles give you experience, so it is a constant guessing game as to when and how your Bakugan level up. 5. Battles - you run around in circles for every single battle. I got about 1/3 of the way through the story and I was already annoyed by the battles. The AI clearly has an advantage over the player for the first 2 to 4 hours of gameplay, then, with the right power ups and grinding, it becomes about balanced. The animations for the battles are lackluster and there is no “health bar” for the Bakugan, just a number. I found that really annoying because, for most games, there is some sort of health bar to indicate the remaining health of the player or creature along with a number: Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest, etc. Also, where are the cards? In every Bakugan game, there have been cards and that is part of the fun. Not only do you get to choose three different Bakugan to fit your play style, but also build a custom deck to help that play style. The one upside to this game are the Bakugan abilities / attacks that the player can equip to the Bakugan and change up to customize their individual play style. That was a good idea, but with little description of what each ability does and no way to look up more info about them, I found that part to be quite annoying. Overall, I found this game to be lacking basically everything that the original game did right. The game felt very rushed and is way overpriced. It was stripped down to the bare minimum / essentials / bones of what makes a Bakugan game Bakugan. The developers played on nostalgia to sell the game, not on the mechanics or anything else that is in this game. I really hope that the developers of this game or Nintendo read this description and work to make the next Bakugan game more like the original game for the DS, with some improvements to graphics, number and variety of Bakugan, story, Bakugan gear / equipment, actually put cards in the game, allow the player to purchase Bakugan and cards, make the game, map, interface, etc more clear and display pertinent information at the correct spots. This game honestly makes me want to return to the original game and play that instead of this game. So sad Bakugan. What have you become?
