A concise history of the design, development, and deployment of USS Enterprise (CV-6). Though it barely missed being caught and destroyed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the US Navy's USS Enterprise (CV-6) aircraft carrier took part in every major action of the Pacific War, from the Doolittle Raid to the battles of Midway, Santa Cruz, and Guadalcanal to the Philippine Sea and Leyte. Affectionately known as the "Big E," as well as the "fightingest ship in the Navy," the Enterprise racked up one of the most impressive tallies of damage to the enemy of any Allied warship during WWII. Explores Enterprise 's design and construction, wartime activities, and ultimate postwar decommissioning and scrapping Carefully researched photos, many of which have never before been published. The clarity and large size of many of the photos, coupled with descriptive and informative captions, put the reader on the deck of this historic warship throughout its famed history. Review: Excellent Interesting Book - I have other books by this same author and I am always satisfied by the written and photographed information presented. Very good pictures that really tell their own story. A must-have for actually absorbing rare photographs without getting too bloated in the written stuff. Review: CV-6 Enterprise 1/200 Scale - I liked the book For its historical content I also bought it for reference and building the model unfortunately it was not helpful no color photos but still it’s a good book

Surprisingly substantial for a $16 picture book
Although most of the naval history I consume is of the table-shaking, eyeball-glazing variety, I have a hard time resisting the occasional book of pretty pictures. This book contains 230 pictures in total, and except for a few pictures taken by the carrier's air group of Japanese warships being attacked, all of them are either of the "Enterprise" or were taken aboard. Along with a number of "in action" shots of the carrier in battle, there are plenty of images of her under construction, drydock images of refits and battle damage, candid shots of life aboard and flight deck activities, and aerial shots of the ship at sea and entering/leaving harbor. Most of the photos are very sharp-looking and free of annoying digital degraining, and the captions are usually fairly detailed. I'd love to give this five stars, but there are some annoying typos in the text, and at 128 pages, it's not exactly definitive, with only about 20 pages devoted to the ship's history. Still, for $16, this book delivered a heck of a lot more than I was expecting, and it's remarkably lean and focused. David Doyle and Schiffer Publishing have pumped out quite a few books of this type recently, and I'll probably check out further volumes in this series.

Great brief history of CV-6
The book covers the operational history of the US Navy's most decorated warship from WWII. The book is a hardcover with the pages of a sturdy paper stock. It contains many photos of high quality that cover many aspects of the ship and its history. It isn't the most detailed book on the market regarding CV-6, but it is well worth the price.

What an amazing ship. What a book.
USS Enterprise fought in every significant naval battle against the Japanese in WW2. The verbal narrative of these events pieces the pictorial evidence of her history into a most interesting book. It is disgraceful that she was not preserved as a museum-ship. Those who recommended her scrapping should have been tried, convicted and sentenced on her quarter deck. Did they escape justice because she was a flat-top without one? At least you can preserve her in your library, as I have done in mine. The LEAST you can do. So, do it!

A very good pictorial history of The Big E!
I did not realize that this book was going to provide so many pictures of Enterprise (CV-6). Many of the pictures I had never seen before. The pictures go right up to the unfortunate scrapping of this remarkable WW2 ship. Will next be buying the book on the Hornet!
