The year is 1989, and 19 year old Jason Becker from Richmond, California has just been offered the biggest rock guitar job on the planet. He's on the cover of every guitar magazine and is being hailed by critics as a genius and the next greatest Rock guitarist in the world. Jason's childhood dream of making and performing music has come true. One week from now, during an examination of his leg, Jason's dream will turn into a nightmare when he is diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease and given just 3-5 years to live. 22 years later, without the ability to move or to speak, Jason is alive and making music with his eyes. Review: Incredible - This may not be the best edited or most 'professional' of the professional documentary films, but the story needs none of the over dramatic things that come with big documentaries. This is an honest story and a fascinating one. Being of that period and owning the Cacophony CD's and some of his solo material, it floored me when I read what had happened in his life and when. Its astounding that life can literately be taken away through no fault of your own or no clear reasoning. Its like your ticket was called and you are left to be a statistic. Me, personally, would want to just end it. I don't have the courage or appreciation for life that I would need to overcome such a tragic fate. I would take the easy way... Then you see a guy like Jason himself. STILL trying to make things happen with only vision to send his message. Nothing else. EYES!!! After such a huge start in life and having so much success, he is left to his own mind, that is still in perfect condition, to get through his days. Not only does he do it, but he does it with a sense of humor, pride and come up with an amazing way of creating his own compositions with a pure love and respect for life. What an incredible story. What a strong family. And best part is, no over dramatic crap, just the real story. And the story is told not in a 'woe is me' manner, only a fraction is actually about how the disease effected HIM, Its about how he has carried on in such a great way. It is told with real humanity. Jason is an inspiration more now than with his legendary Guitar. The only thing I wish is that everyone would see this, buy it and help this family get through a financial burden that has had to be taking its toll. But they don't hit you over the head with that either in this Doc. Just another way to see the class of this family. Not just for Guitarists. All should see this and re-evaluate what we call 'problems' in our own lives. Our problems are nothing. Jason accepted this and has overcome not only living, but has overcome what we all should want to overcome. Our own vision of life and what it truly means. Money, fame, politics, racism, guns, materialism is all BS in reality. Life is deserving of respect unto itself. Buy this NEW and support the family if you can, through Jason's web site. Anything would help I am sure. They may get a small piece of a sale of this DVD so don't buy it used. This is truly real and inspirational stuff. Review: Awe-inspiring. And not just for musicians! - Jason Becker has to be one of the strongest, most courageous, and inspirational human beings in history. As if his virtuousity on guitar was not enough reason to admire/adore him, he has managed to maintain his love of life and music even after the horrible disease of A.L.S. robbed him of basically his entire physical being. It's hard to fathom how anyone could be as strong as Mr. Becker - a man who accomplished more by age 20 than most of us will in a lifetime. A man who was poised to be the next Paganini .. the next Franz Liszt ... the next Mozart ... you name it. And cruel chance dealt him a blow that would surely crush almost anyone's spirit. But not Jason. This documentary is enjoyable for the musical content, but the power of Jason Becker goes far beyond his musical legacy. He sets an example for all humanity - no matter how viciously life can strike you down, you can still find a way to endure. "Not Dead Yet" makes me want to be a better guitarist, but even more, it makes me want to be a better person.

For a man who is unforgettable.
I first heard music with Becker, back when I was like 15. Wow, that was 17 years ago. I found his music on a program called IRC. It was amazing to me. I played guitar and just could not believe how he was playing. I got as much of his stuff as I could. Something happened to me in 2003. Putting me in a coma for 6 weeks. When I woke up, I had forgotten a lot of things from my life. But you know, I still remembered Becker. I found this video. I had wanted to for a long time. It was a really low price. So, I got it. I watched it last night. It is done very well. You get to hear about how he first started playing. How he got to make his first albums. The huge chance he had gotten chosen to be a part of and how sadly, he lost the ability to do what he did no amazingly. You get to hear other musicians, friends and family members talk about him. Also, you can watch a bunch of videos of him playing, in the special features part. I watched one or two last night. I have to watch the rest. While I was watching the videos that I did, I was watching his arm. I was looking at the muscle as he played. Thinking how soon, he would loose them. Sad. This guy is such a strong person. An inspiration to anyone who complains about the little problems in life. Someone I remembered, even after losing most of my memory and who I look forward to remembering in this life and the next. Thank you Jason Becker, for continuing to rock.

Great Movie!
It is a fantastic movie, it's amazing his spirit and his good humor even at the current stage of his disease, his family is so amazingly strong and supportive that I got tear eyed a few times, the movie is more the story of a beautiful family and their struggles with the disease than anything else, there is obviously incredible music by Jason but the highlight is the Becker family, May God bless them. I hope I will have the chance to visit Jason at his house and meet him in person, also wish David Lee Roth would have appeared in the movie too

Totally Inspiring
I absolutely LOVE this documentary about Jason Becker. His story is heartbreaking, inspiring and truly amazing. Jason is a rock God in his effortless guitar mastery, and he was nearing the top of his fame when he was struck down by Lou Gehrig's Disease, which would eventually take almost all of his muscle control. But unlike many others perhaps in similar situations, Jason did not turn to drugs or lose himself in a spiraling depression. He used every physical tool left to him and created some of his most masterful works AFTER he seemingly lost everything. If you're looking for something to lift your heart and spirit, give this film a chance to make you feel wonderful just to be alive.

願わくば「End of the Beginning」を。
