Good. Expensive. But they’re still a great value if used correctly.
These are good strings. They’re packaged well. The strings sound good, intonate well and you can’t really tell from sound or feel that they are coated. And if you can, it certainly doesn’t get in the way of finding them pleasantly playable. Here’s where they really shine, though… I keep them on a 12 string guitar that’s part of my recording studio collection of instruments. The guitar doesn’t get played all that often. Recently, I pulled the guitar out and set it up for a recording session with a client. The strings I had on it were nine years old, even though they probably only had two hours of playtime on them. The strings were still crisp, looked and played well, except for a little bit of surface rust on the highest strings, which are apparently uncoated. If this were being played regularly, I certainly wouldn’t be putting $25 strings on it because I would be changing strings every 6 to 8 playing hours of actual playing time. But it’s definitely worth it for a guitar that might sit in it’s case for weeks or months (or for close to a decade) between playings as this one did. So for my guitars that get infrequent use, I’ll continue to use Elixirs. That’s what they’re for, and that’s where they really shine.

Great sounding strings on My Zager acoustic 12-string guitar.
These are well manufactured strings for a perfect combination of playability and durability. They sounded great at a recent gig we did.

Only strings I ever use
Elixir are the best strings FOR ME! When I started playing I only used Ernie Ball because they were the cheap option that had all the endorsees that I liked with fancy color packs. However I always had issues with breaking my B & e strings. Then I got heavier gauge and stopped breaking but the next problem was rust. I lost string life because I'd string it come back the next day and rust was already formed. I wanted coated strings just because having to replace rusted strings filled with finger gunk was just too expensive even though the EBs were cheap they add up fast. So I moved to the Elixirs and fell in love with the coated strings. 10 guitars all with Elixir because well 10 guitars at ~$15 a set will add up really quick. In addition to the cost of stringing so many fiddles. I can only play one at a time so something may sit on the rack for extended period of time and at a cost of $15 for strings I want to be able to play anything I want. Elixirs are the best for longevity. All that being said they're NOT forever strings they do die and need replacing but it is just the best option for me fiscally. FEEL: I love coated string feel. They're a little slicker and therefore a little easier on my fingers. This is 1000% personal preference. I know some people HATE the slick feeling and others like me that love it. I recently was asked to restring a guitar for a family friend and the guitar is NOT played and the owners really have no desire to learn. (it was a departed family members guitar and more of a memorial piece to them) So I threw these strings on this even at ~$20 because I wanted to have them be able to display it and have the strings stay pretty and should someone want to pick it up, the strings will have life and not rust away while hanging up. Overall love these strings, love Elixir (just not their cost but thats the whole D'Addario company.)

Professionally Made
Wonderful strings. They have a soft touch to them and they resonate a great tone. These are some of the best strings made for a 12 string guitar when you really want a quality sound.

The Only Strings for My 12 String are Elixir NanoWeb Coated Strings
I have been a fan of Elixir strings for quite some time. Their light nano web coated strings produce crisp, deep, resonant sound on my Washburn12 string. They also seem to be easier to fret and so less stressful on my arthritic hands. In addition Elixir’s customer support provides superior customer service. I purchased a new set in January of this year (2023). I put the strings on my guitar, tuned it and put it away. The following morning when I opened my case two of the new strings (G & E) were broken…apparently at the nut which is an unusual place for a break. I contacted Elixir Customer Service and they asked how they could make it right. I told them I would be happy if they would send me replacement G & E strings. They agreed and said they would send them out immediately. Five days later I received not just the two replacements but an entire new set of strings. No strings but Elixir will grace any of my four guitars.

The best strings!
Always my strings of choice. They came in a speedy fashion, as I needed them pretty quickly for a guitar jam.

Elixir longevity
I was originally a tester for these gore strings back in the ‘90’s and they’ve come along way. Back then I had a high incidence of breakage, but that seems to be resolved. For guitars that are only occasionally played, these are my go to. So when you get it out l, a quick tune and you’re off and running. The last set I had on this 12-string lasted over a year so you get good sound for just a little more money and they last!

Great for Taylor 12 strings...
...silky smooth and they tone down the "bright" Taylor sound just a bit...which must be why Taylor sells all their new guitars with elixirs. Warning: In the "light" set, the .009 sympathetic G string is REALLY easy to BREAK. It can handle about one full pitch above its normal G...and then, pop! Gone. I have gotten 1+ year on a set of these w/o breaks, but have also broken the .009 on the 3rd day once when I cranked it the wrong way a full pitch up (instead of down) while setting up for a DGDDAD song. Elixir does offer the .009 as a single string listed on their website on the hard to find "single string" page ( [...] ) under the heading "Anti-Rust Plated Plain Steels" item #13009. Amazon does not currently stock these single strings, but several vendors linked to from the page above do. They run $1.09 each and can be special ordered from any music shop that carries Elixirs. Elixir should sell these .009s in sets of 10 because that's how fragile they are. ;-)

Best Acoustic String Ever
The Elixir NANOWEB Light Acoustic Guitar Strings for 12-String guitars are a top choice for players who want bright tone, durability, and smooth playability on their 12-string acoustic. Here’s how they stack up: Pros: Bright, Clear Tone: Elixir's NANOWEB coating helps retain a brilliant, crisp tone that highlights the natural sound of the guitar, especially in the treble range. These strings bring out the shimmer and richness in a 12-string guitar’s sound, giving each note excellent clarity. Long-Lasting: Elixir’s NANOWEB coating is famous for extending string life. Even with regular playing, these strings resist corrosion and dulling significantly longer than uncoated alternatives, which makes them a great investment for anyone who doesn’t want to change strings constantly. Smooth Feel: The coating provides a smooth, comfortable feel, reducing finger squeak while making it easier to move across the fretboard. This is particularly helpful for 12-string guitars, as the double strings can make fretting a bit harder on the fingers without a smooth coating. Light Gauge, Easy Playability: For a 12-string, the light gauge (.010 - .047) is a great option for easy playability while still offering rich volume. It reduces tension on the neck, which can help minimize fatigue for both your fingers and the guitar itself. Cons: Premium Price: Elixir strings are more expensive than standard uncoated strings, which may be a consideration if you’re on a budget. However, their longevity often offsets the cost over time. Slightly Reduced Natural Feel: While the NANOWEB coating feels smooth, some players may find it takes away a bit of the “natural” string feel compared to uncoated strings. This is a matter of preference, but worth noting if you’re used to the raw feel of traditional strings. Verdict: Elixir NANOWEB Light Acoustic Guitar Strings for 12-String guitars are an excellent choice for players who want lasting brightness, durability, and a smooth playing experience. They’re ideal for 12-string players looking for high-quality, low-maintenance strings that won’t dull quickly and will keep their guitar sounding vibrant. While they come at a premium, the extended lifespan and consistent tone make them a worthwhile investment for most. Highly recommended for gigging musicians and serious hobbyists alike!
