KRUPS 8000035978 GX5000 Professional Electric Coffee Burr Grinder with Grind Size and Cup Selection, 7-Ounce, Black

This coffee grinder is a beast. I bough in in Jan 2018 and it still works just as good as when first plugged in. The grind accuracy is good - test a couple settings and see which gives the bean grind you are looking for. Super easy to use, not that quiet (but what grinder is??), and an affordable price for how much you get out of it. Easy to clean.

i chose burr version over blade version based on reviews and am happy with my choice. been 10 days and it works perfectly so far for my needs which is for auto-drip grounds but, finer since our bunn coffee maker is super fast.. Not too loud for 2 cps at a time and pretty quick at grounding beans. I honestly however have a hard time telling the difference between setting 4 thru 2.5 ground size and thought it was not working right at first but, i sure could taste the slight differences between each mug of coffee i made from the different settings.. yet, I can't seem to get my coffee beans to taste like its grounded version that i love but, not blaming grinder just yet since i bought my coffee beans from here and thinking they are not as fresh as they could be. update: i have grown to hate this burr grinder! total mess everytime you 'try' to clean residue grounds out of machine areas, quite impossible to get to stuck packed grounds behind the shute part that i can see but can't get to well enough to rid of it. can't remove second burr to clean so it has packed grounds under it and in screw holes. the burr you can remove has packed in grounds in screw holes too and you are not suppose to wash these but, have no choice for it is the only way to get crap stuck in screw head & hole area and even than you can't get it totally clean.. first 2 weeks coffee was great (after i got a fresher bag of coffee beans) but, has not tasted right after that. i started making a week worth of grounds and cleaning machine after every use because coffee would taste nasty the next day if i grounded beans every morning and didn't troughly clean machine out afterwards. that helped some and coffee was better but, still had that off note to it, which i blame on old oily grounds being stuck in the burr and shute area... quite honestly even if this was not a pain to clean as best as you can, i would of still grew to hate it! freaking coffee grounds constantly jumping out at you and all over the counter from simply opening lid off the container it comes with gets old and you cannot use any other kind because of where the shute is. given i used oilier beans, i would hate to see what mess drier beans would do! i just do not see why these grinder makers can not use anti-static plastic containers to cut this mess down!! been 3mths and done packed this pain in my behind burr grinder up and took it to salvation army and was going to replace it with a glass container grinder but, bought a mess free lido 3 instead that i can actually use every morning without having to take everything apart to clean afterwards!! pricey manual burr but, so worth the mess free and will last for life, highly recommend one and it is easy to use without much effort even with us weakling!!

PROS -VERY UNIFORM GRIND, compared to my blade chopper (which was highly rated). Produces a lot less fines and fewer large pieces than my blade grinder. With the Krups, the few larger pieces it produces are flat and thin that brew well as opposed to large round (from blade chopper). I honestly believe coffee tastes better since it is more uniform, (as too fine grinds create a bit of bitterness, too coarse grind creates weak brew that lacks flavor). -I am able to make slight adjusts in grind size to the brew time in my drip brewer. -Seems to be same loudness as blade chopper, I understand other burr grinders are noisy, but the Krups is ok. CONS -Too big, the things designed to hold up to 12 oz of coffee, almost a fill can/bag. Why would I want to do that? The purpose of home grinder is to grind before brewing. -Range of grinding, could be improved for finer or coarser grind. The course grind settings of 5-9, there is little change (maybe not course enugh for cold brew?). A setting of 1 (lowest) gives a bit finer grind, but not fine enough for Brazilian expresso. -Receiving bin for ground coffee is messy. Removing and attaching the bin cover creates a mess of fines, but I have learned how to do it without too much of a mess.

I purchased the KRUPS GX5000 Professional Electric Coffee Burr Grinder with Grind Size and Cup Selection, 7-Ounce, Black. Note, "Professional" is part of the description. First, the description says "lead". I am pretty sure the word is really 'lid'. Who'd want a lead cover for a food product? Careless. Second, the unit does grind as advertised, and I have no complaints about the grinding capability. It was as advertised. However, the design, as an appliance to be used by humans, has significant drawbacks. The directions state that one must unplug the unit, for safety, each time one wants to load or unload or in any way use the unit. So, in order to merely grind two batches of beans in a row, one must unplug the unit. . This is absurd, that there is no toggle switch connected to the electric supply cord, when one must unplug the unit in order to be using it safely. Furthermore, I do not disagree with this precaution, given the design of the switch to engage the grinder. This lack of an on/off switch on the cord is a very significant design flaw. Also stated in the directions, that the cord length provided is short so as to avoid tangle issues. Interestingly, the cord is not significantly short, (45 inches long) and so, to add a switch adapter to the cord, the switch adapter is significantly far from the unit, so, one must coil the cord in order to have the switch close to the unit, and then add a (heavy duty) extension cord after the switch adapter, thereby making tangled cords a default problem, which the directions state they are trying to avoid. Ironic. So, exceedingly poor design flaw, lack of a switch in a position and design on the unit or cord in order to not require unplugging the unit for safety issues. This is utterly inexcusable. As well, the directions state that the unit will turn off automatically once there are no more beans to be ground. I have not found this to be true. I ground five batches of beans this morning. There was about a five minute interval between each batch, while I vacuum packed and labeled the batches in my mason jars, so, there was no issue of the unit being overheated. If a medium grind setting, grinding a 5/8 full hopper, with a setting of 4 cups, could not automatically stop, even when empty, in all five batches, then I feel secure in stating that the automatic shutoff function does not exist. Or if it does, something is faulty. Also, without a flashlight directed into the bean hopper or the grounds hopper, it was impossible to see, given the black plastic of the unit. I did not see an option for another color. If there is a white option, choose that one, for visibility issues. The design of the grounds bin could be improved. The ground bits shoot through the rectangular opening at the back top of the bin, and hit the opposite side of the bin, which is the front of the bin. It then piles up on the front wall at a steep angle, and so reaches the maximum height allowed long before the bin is actually any where near full. With a simple addition of a 'diverter' in the middle of the lid (they wrote 'lead', remember?) of the bin, so that the grounds drop into the middle of the bin, the problem would be avoided, and so one would not have to 'jiggle' the bin mid grinding, to level them off. This is particularly problematic since the shutoff feature doesn't work, either. The unit measures about 10 1/2 inches high, and with the lid open on top, is 15 inches high. The noise level is high while actually grinding beans, but as I expected. Of course, since the automatic shutoff did not occur, the noise level skyrocketed when grinding nothing. I wonder how long it would take for the motor to overheat if I didn't turn the unit off manually. That also begs the question, whether the automatic overheat feature exists, either. That, I am not willing to test, as, I have decided that at the moment, I do not have the time to do more research to find a better designed unit, that is safer to operate, just before Christmas, and will keep the unit for the moment. If I find a pocket of time and do find a safer unit, I will return this, and maybe test the automatic overheat feature of this unit, before returning it, so that I can report on this feature as well. Maybe. I'd be interested in anyone else's research on the subject. In sum, if you are willing to use this as if it has no automatic features, and have a flashlight available, and are willing to stand there ready to correct everything that can go wrong, and willing to put up with grounds flying everywhere when opening the bin, and willing to subject your outlet or extension chord, to endless use and abuse, it will deliver decently ground coffee pretty quickly and pretty uniformly ground. But if used as directed, it is cumbersome and messy. Usually people ignore the safety parameters. I know I often do, if I believe the parameters stated are merely to protect the manufacturer. But the design of this unit makes me follow the safety directions, which means, unplugging and plugging in, constantly. It is just absurd. So, five stars for the grind quality. but zero stars for design flaws (perhaps forgivable since it costs little) , and non working functions, and safety flaws, which is absolutely unforgivable.

I like this little machine. The three things I like the most are: 1) it's quiet. It grinds coffee very well without being obnoxiously loud, like my previous coffee grinder was. 2) it grinds the coffee very well... oops, I think I said that before... 3) it's good value for the money The one thing I don't like? 1) the hopper on the top of the unit is kind of small. I'm constantly refilling it... perhaps several times per week. My old coffee grinder needed filling about once per 14 days. All in all, I'm glad I purchased this coffee grinder. Quiet is important to me, because I'm always the first one up in our household, and on Sunday mornings when the F1 race is on early, I can grind my coffee and not wake everyone else up!

The grinder itself is a good bet for anyone planning to do drip coffee or french press. I planned to do espresso and so I needed a very fine grind. I took a chance it it was not fine enough for my need. I would have gone with a CONICAL burr grinder if I knew before. For anyone who does not plan on making espresso anytime soon, this is a great choice! It is robust, easy to clean, and the brush is even included in the desing of the machine itself (in the central shaft where the coffee is). I was a bit scared about the comment saying the coffee is not airtight, but i doubt it is that bad. It seems like the lid locks well, and as you are to grind the coffee right before use, the precious oils wont be affected too much considering you will refill often the reservoir. This grinder would've been a good and durable bet for anyone who wants a good coffee. Also, i have to mention the SPEED it grinds the coffee is impressive. I think the motor in this machine is angry and wants to ravage any grain that crosses it's path within a few seconds. Aka, the motor seems durable and does the job.. very fast!

En general la calidad y funcionamiento es adecuado para su precio, pero tiene detalles que hacen evidente que no es el de mejor calidad. Para empezar el molido no es completamente uniforme, sin importar el valor en el que se ponga, se produce un polvo muy fino que se termina acumulando en la tapa del recipiente de salida. Se suelta café en polvo al sacar el recipiente y ensucia a su alrededor. El ajuste de tazas por moler no es muy preciso, el 2, por ejemplo, debería producir cafe para dos tazas, sin embargo produce 6.5 cucharadas de 15 ml (la más grande de las cucharas graduadas de cocina) y no es del todo regular ya que funciona por tiempo. Creo que debería tener un ajuste para producir aun menos café molido, si la idea es molerlo lo más cerca posible a prepararlo para que este más fresco, este molino hace difícil no tener sobrante que almacenar. La solución es poner solo un poco de grano y detener el molino manualmente cuando se termine, pero es menos conveniente que el ajuste de tazas y hace inútil que tenga esta característica. Lo positivo es que tiene un buen precio por lo que ofrece, es una buena introducción para quien quiera comenzar a moler su café y es mejor que los molinos de aspas, pero definitivamente existen mejores productos en el mercado, aunque claro, a un precio más alto.
