Very cool toy
The Star Wars Bladebuilders Signature Lightsaber is a must-have for any Star Wars fan! It allows you to mix and match various lightsaber pieces to create your own unique lightsaber, just like the characters in the movies and shows, also works really well. The lightsaber is also a little high-quality and durable, with lights and realistic sounds, making it perfect for epic light-saber battles. Overall, the Star Wars Bladebuilders Signature Lightsaber is a fun and interactive way to immerse yourself in Star Wars.

Huge hit with our oldest grandson (with his younger brothers sneaking in some playing time of their own!)
4/1/17 Update: How could it be that my three grandsons thought Star Wars consisted of just 2015's The Force Awakens that they'd seen?! I was falling down on my job as a grandma, because that was just the first (Part VII) of the trilogy SEQUEL, to be followed by 2017's Part VIII and 2019's Part IX... how could they truly "get" or appreciate the sequels before they'd seen the originals and prequels? It was time to get my old rear in gear, and I remedied the situation by giving them the original trilogy DVDs for Christmas last year (1977's original Star Wars movie, which I guess is now referred to as Part IV, A New Hope, along with 1980's Part V, The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Part VI, Return of the Jedi), and will eventually follow it up with the prequel trilogy (1999's Part I, The Phantom Menace, 2002's Part II, Attack of the Clones, and 2005's Part III, Revenge of the Sith.) This super neat "Bladebuilders" series Jedi Master Lightsaber really ratcheted up the enthusiasm when our oldest grandson opened it! It's constructed with super heavy duty plastic pieces too, which is important to us... it's also got to survive his two younger brothers - whom I understand are doing their own Jedi swashbuckling with it as soon as their big brother leaves for school! - so it needs to be able to withstand triple the usual action. Have to admit that I had to do some brushing up on my Star Wars vernacular prior to giving this, though - hard to believe it'd been almost 40 years since I saw that original Star Wars movie! For any other grandparents out there who also need a refresher course, the lightsaber laser sword was a weapon used by the Jedi Order, a peacekeeping organization who believed in the "The Force" - a metaphysical, spiritual, binding energy power field created by all living things - as well as the Sith Order, which used the "dark side" of the Force. Jedi Master was the highest rank in the Jedi Order, bestowed on those who'd shown the utmost devotion/skill, along with a balance in the Force and combat. (Remember Obi-Wan Kenobi and his own instructor, Yoda?) Lightsabers had plasma blades which were powered by rare crystals (Kyber crystals) that were in tune with the Force and grew naturally on various planets throughout the galaxy, and could cut through practically anything. My understanding is that a blue light indicated a Jedi Guardian who used the Force on a more physical level, while a green light denoted a Jedi Consular who was more spiritual in nature. Our grandson was trilled to be a Jedi Master - even moreso once he'd watched those original movies! This set includes an extendable blue light saber (with cool sound effects!), two green light daggers, and an expansion hilt, along with two elbow connectors, a dual connector and cross connector which can be used in any number of combinations. This set (with its $49.99 MSRP) is the most expensive, and is compatible with others in the "Bladebuilders" series... there's s Spin Action Lightsaber ($39.99), Blast-Tech Lightsaber ($29.99), A New Hope Darth Vader Electronic Lightsaber ($19.99), three Nerf Lightsabers (Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Yoda - $14.99/ea), as well as A New Hope Darth Vader Extendable Lightsaber ($9.99). Think we'll begin with this one and maybe add to it in the future. One thing I DO want to mention... the description says 6 AAA batteries required, and that they're included. Not so... the Lightsaber requires 3 AAA (and DEMO batteries ARE included), but EACH of the light daggers also require 3 AAA and they are NOT included. I'm big on not delaying the excitement the boys have by always making sure their electronic toys actually work as soon as they're opened, so I went ahead and added the light dagger batteries ahead of time (no easy feat... they're secured in the packaging pretty tightly.) But you might want to make sure you have some AAA's either already in there or readily available... we bought a huge pack of them to send home with my son and daughter-in-law, because something told me those demo batteries in the Lightsaber would be running down QUICKLY in the hands of our grandson!

Lots of Fun for An 8 Year Old Son That Loves Star Wars
I couldn't find this product anywhere in the state of Colorado in December! After calling ALL major retailers and checking their websites, I decided to order it from one of the sellers on Amazon. Shipping was great. Product has been fantastic for my 8 year old son - he plays with it all of the time, especially re-configuring the lightsaber into a bizillion different ways. He loves it. My son is not a "destructo" type child so he isn't overly rough with his toys - this Bladebuilder has held-up well under many father-son lightsaber duels. It probably will not survive a lot of rough handling, if that is your expectation. My only heads-up is that it isn't intuitively obvious how all of the connectors work (there are several different mechanical sleeves/buttons/twisting attachments to assemble the pieces)...it took my son a couple of days to discover all of the possibilities to connect everything (the instructions weren't very helpful). Highly recommend it!

Fun, durable, good for creativity, but adding to the set is expensive
My son plays with this thing a lot. The large blue lightsaber and the two small green ones light up, and he creates all sorts of wild designs. They seem durable too. My kids can be pretty rough, but this toy is holding up well so far. One complaint. It seems like a whole bunch of creative options would open up if we had a few more pieces. The possibilities seem great, but they're really expensive. I paid $53.77 for this set, so I don't want to put too much into the upgrade. I'd like the spinning Light Daggers, but that's another $44. I could get the Kylo Ren light saber, but it's $30 and it doesn't add much to what I've got. I could get another one of these Jedi Master sets, as the price on those has finally come down a little, but it's still $43.59. If these things were more reasonably priced, my son would be getting all of them, and there would be so many configurations possible. But as it is, it's hard to buy more because of the price.

These blade builders are great. Well made and slot together well. Often the merchandise from a film is badly made and relies on the franchise to sell the toys but these are not like that. They would be a good you intheir own right. My son and daughter are collecting the different ones and play well together mixing and matching them up. They are always a firm favourite when we have kids over too.
