Clearspring Umeboshi pickled plums have remarkable medicinal qualities. Their powerful acidity has a paradoxical alkalinising effect on the body, neutralising fatigue, stimulating the digestion and promoting the elimination of toxins. Review: Excellent. - They are salty organic "plums" with pits. There are no preservatives, no added chemicals, no high fructose corn syrup, no MSG, nothing sneaky, nothing cheap. Today I went shopping at an Asian grocery store and took a look at their selection of umeboshi plums; maybe they had some that were cheaper? Cheaper, yes, and also full of unexpected chemicals. Iʻll stick to these wonderful tasty (albeit expensive) umeboshi plums. Around Christmastime I had some really tough nights with digestive issues. Mind you I did not grow up Japanese; I just found these years ago and liked them. I was up in the middle of the night and had tried every one of my tricks: ginger tea (didnʻt work), apple cider vinegar in water (didnʻt work), betaine hydrochloride (even THAT didnʻt do the trick!). Somewhere in the back of my head I heard "eat two umeboshi plums." I did. Thatʻs what put the digestive issues to rest, and I finally got some sleep. I looked this up online and discovered yes, this is what umeboshi plums are for medicinally; itʻs well known. I learned something new! I will definitely keep buying these to keep them on hand for emergencies like that. Review: Interesting food experience - I thought it is the snack plums I used to have. Obviously, it's too salty to just eat as usual. My Japanese colleague told me I need to eat it with rice onigiri. The plums are well made and you can see the quality is good. But personally I think it's still too salty to me.

the quality of the ume is very good and the salty to sour ratio is just right
Package came from the UK so it took a minute to get here. Box was sitting on my front porch in the sun when I got home so my plums were extra cooked. That being said, the quality of the ume is very good and the salty to sour ratio is just right. The plums were softer than I usually like and some were hard to remove in one piece. This may have to do with the fact that these are not suspended in water and the heat they were exposed to. Comparing this to the Welpac brand is night and day and that is rubbish cafeteria grade compared to this.

Seriously, dont waste your money
Its official, you cant get decent umeboshi on Amazon. I'm very familiar with umeboshi, I've spent A LOT of time in Japan, stuffing my face with pickled plums. They are my favorite food. These plums are very bruised and blemished. Its very obvious the plums they use are super low quality and they are unbearably salty. Not a nuanced salty, sour, sweet plummy flavor like it should be. Just shiso and salt. They are decently soft, which is about the only positive thing I can say. I'm just so disappointed in this product. You wouldn't even find plums this shoddy in a 7-eleven in Japan. Skip this product, track down a local asian food store or order plums from a Japanese specialty shop online.

More Salt than Sour
I like salt, but these were waaaayyyy more saltier than sour. Actually I couldn't eat even one of them as they were so salty.

The best umeboshi
I tried various other umeboshi brand and types (whole and pureed) before I ordered the Clearspring brand which is more pricey than the others brand. But I like its taste best, and I like that it contain shiso leaves and that it comes in a glass jar. I'm willing to pay extra for this quality product.

Item was as described.
Item arrived promptly. I mistakenly thought I was getting a paste when it was actually whole plums, but this works... and it's organic.

I bought a jar of these for my nephew's 18th birthday (among other things - no, I'm not that mean)! Anyway, he likes a challenge, having eaten most of the 'deadly' hot sauces I've bought him before, however he'd never heard of Umeboshi Plums which made it all the more fun. On opening the jar they actually smell really nice, a sort of heavy marinated raisin aroma, however the eating experience was something else. He popped a whole one in and started to chew... his face then went from it's normal shade of pink through various shades of darkening red and his eyes bulged while tears rolled down his cheeks! Safe to say, one plum was all he could manage and I, being the coward that I am, declined to try one myself. Anyway, I understand these are being kept as an after-dinner delicacy for guests now, I just wish I could be there to see the enjoyment. Excellent value!!

My first time trying real umeboshi. I use them inside my onigiri and to make 🇯🇵 japanese flag lunch. (Umeboshi on bed of shari rice) very good. I don’t know why I was expecting there to be no pits- there are pits of course. Umeboshi aids in digestion so it’s quite good for your gut being fermented and all. The taste I would say it’s quite sour- you will pucker up! And very very salty like salted fish. Umeboshi is not meant to be just eaten as is. You take small bites of it with your rice. It’s very good. The price seems fair. It is a sort of delicacy- a hard to find “fresh” ingredient (by fresh I mean not dehydrated...) and these are whole plums we are talking about- pit and all. There are quite a bit of plums inside. Also, the fermentation process takes time as well. Not to mention these are organic plums that come from organic orchards, meaning they work extra hard and pay more to keep things as nature intended- and it’s for our benefit. Considering all of this, I have no problem with the price, and am grateful I can buy it here easily on amazon without added shipping costs. To think of how many times you will use this... make sure you use it all up before expiry date! But it’s fermented so it’ll last quite a while. Will definitely be buying again once mine runs out. Love it!
