You don't need this, any more than you need an expensive wristwatch. All right, it makes perfect coffee every time, at precisely the right temperature, aromatic, rich, flavourful, deeply satisfying. It looks good; the one pictured that I have is in off-white. It is a pleasure to use every morning. I look forward to operating it in the early hours when I awake. Watching it do its job is fun. The solid construction — largely metal — delights. The percolation-type action is a visual treat. You will say that I am fetishising the Moccamaster. A cheap alternative can probably make coffee almost as well, you will say. Well, almost. Well, probably. Why pay more when you could buy a cheap one for a tenth the price or less? you ask. I reply that I've been penny-wise, dollar foolish like that my whole sorry life, so that I've been through about ten shoddily-made filter coffee makers, and have saved a few cents for my pains. I'm ahead by a few cents! So you could pass on the Moccamaster. On the other hand, if you saw it in action, if you woke up and drank the coffee as I have done, you might follow me in buying one. It's very obviously built to last. Even has a five-year warranty, I understand. There's so much landfill on Amazon, and landfill this decidedly is not. You could buy cheap junk, as I have done, fool that I am, countless times in Pavlovian fashion. Or you could go for robust quality like this, handmade by some enterprising, practical, reliable Dutchmen and Dutchwomen in their little factory in the Netherlands. (You can see them in action in various YouTube videos.) A business that had the bright idea of resisting the temptation to export jobs to China and instead concentrated on high standards. Result: success and popularity for them, coffee perfection for me.

My career has led to relocating to about 8 countries and so I can't even guess at the filter coffee pots owned.Moccamaster leads the list in Price - but it also leads the list in coffee brewed quality. It actually brews very high quality coffee. It seems to perform better with High Quality Coffee beans you grind right before use vice High Quality Pre-ground coffee.The package you receive is unassembled. So the horizontal or transverse bar the carries the hot water to the coffee filter area is a bit of a "head scratcher". Since it gets inserted into a soft plastic nipple...and you may have to fuss with it to get it to fit tightly and stay put. jOverall everything works as well as they advertise.

Excellent machine, makes quality, consistent coffee. Looks great too and fits in to the kitchen well, not taking up too much space and due to the orientation it doesn't protrude out on to the worktop as much as a lot of other machines.It is a more simplistic coffee machine but the consistency is it's quality and that's what you pay for.Easy to clean and keeps the coffee warm, the heat plate remains on for approximately 45 minutes.As a genuine coffee lover this machine goes well with a quality grinder to bring out the flavour of the coffee and I enjoy using this on a near-daily basis.

If you enjoy filter coffee without any confusion or lengthy manuals to read then you should seriously consider this coffee machine. Bear in mind that this does not grind coffee beans and you need to be careful with the carafe, as it is quite delicate. All in all a worthy purchase for coffee enthusiasts.

I wanted a Moccamaster for years. It's a m a z i n g! Filter coffee is the smoothest and healthiest coffee there is. This machine is hand built and tested in Holland, it's so good the style hasn't changed in decades. It's the king of filter coffee makers!My precious was the Melitta signature model but it was already so old it started affect the taste.It uses 1x4 filters you can buy most supermarkets. Very quick with option to brew smaller cup in slow mode and heated plate to keep coffee warm. However I prefer to drink mine as soon as it's brewed.Quality machine and worth every penny. Forget complicated espresso machines that takes ages to clean and maintain. Filter coffee is the way to go!

After several filter machines over the years this is without doubt the best machine I’ve bought. Was reluctant to spend that much but you get what you pay for. Some parts are a little plasticy but the point is it brews great coffee. I got tired of cheaper machines making tepid Luke warm coffee. This machine makes actual HOT Coffee. No fancy functions timers or gadgets it just makes great coffee. So if your the type who likes to count the exact amount of coffee grains an tweak a lot of settings then it’s probably not for you. Simplicity is always the best design. It’s also worth investing in a burr coffee grinder. Fill it to number 4 with a medium grind an it gives you two decent size mugs of great coffee on the half pot function. It is hand made so worth the money in my view. I used the same beans and grind I normally do an was blown away by the taste a quality difference. Nice to be able to write a good review for a change.

Makes an excellent cup of coffee, but if you’re coming from a pour-over you’re going to find that your coffee consumption will double, so plan accordingly.Make sure you read the instructions and website for cleaning and maintenance, and pay heed to not using the carafe to fill the water reservoir.

I’ll start with a few questions I had to search for before I tell you my thoughts on the machine. It comes with only 2 paper filters to get you going. It needs the size 4 papers. You can buy a good brand from your supermarket. I bought ground Coffee too. The brand is your choice. You need to use 60-75g of ground Coffee per 1.25 litres (full jug) but as mentioned before it comes with a scoop with measures approx 1 per mug.Unpacking is straight forward and assembly is easy. Just clip in the stainless steel water rod, then clip in jugs and covers. First time using it you’ll need to clean it. This is simple. Just full water reservoir then switch on, no paper filter needed and let it run the water through. When finished tip away water and repeat one more time. Then you are done!!Next part add paper filter, wash the paper filter in the holder to remove any ‘paper taste’ then add the required Coffee. I made half a jug using just under 40g of ground Coffee. I used the ‘half jug setting’ this made a nice strong jug. And that’s it! Enjoy!Cleaning is very easy, and it comes with a special cleaner for extended use. But if you don’t use it for a long time just a clean with water is enough.I’ll add I did wonder about paying so much for the machine. But personally I feel this matches what I would have from a Coffee shop / even matches an Americano in flavour!

There's a reason this machine isn't cheap. It has been handmade in the Netherlands since the late 60's and is built to last. As long as you follow the extremely straight forward guide and recommended ratio, you'll get a perfect coffee every time.

This is one of the most expensive coffee makers in the market. Unfortunately I didn’t find any value of money. Makes average coffee, made with awful cheap plastic. The price shouldn’t be more than $100AUD.
