Awsome, but lets be honest....
The game itself is very great. In fact the only problem you may have with 13-2 is that it veers away from what triggers nostalgia from the original 13. E.g My favorite character is Sazh, yet you can only use and interact with him via DLC. Also, in my opinion i liked it better when you could have 3 people in your party instead of monsters. Or rather i would prefer S.E had made it so you could alternate. While it is cool to fight along side a chocobo and a behemoth id rather have a person since not only can you change their paradigms but you may also switch to them and use them strategically. There has been Large improvements in the battle system , but at the same time it will be harder to achieve a 5 star rating. The only thing i find annoying is the random spawning of enemies, now and then i do not feel like battling. I understand in certain levels they add on to the story and point to the level but hey everyone would want a break every now and then. In terms of 13 and 13-2 (when it comes to leniency)13-2 allows or rather forces you to explore different levels, even more so to expand your horizon and capabilities to move on into the story, the puzzles and mysteries are very great. But to some gamers they may not like all that freedom. I loved the original 13 because it was easy to follow as it was lenient but it allowed you to explore the world on pulse freely. The story on 13 was easier to follow as a result, many who play ff13-2 may end up being confused should they enter places and cut scenes and wrong times despite the fact that events must take place before hand. But to combat this, the developers made it so you can unlock new levels in accordance to how much you have completed in the previous and current level such as collecting artifacts or fragments. A key thing to note is the fact that you can now JUMP AT WILL. simply pressing the [B/O](XBOX/PS3) will make your character jump, the auto jump has been disabled which is a cool adjustment. I do not want to spoil anymore, but i will say that you will be traveling across time, paradoxes, and even dimensional space time rifts along your journey. Bottom line a lot of innovations were made and if you didnt like the original 13 then this one may sway you into playing 13 again. I havent even finished the game yet and along the way the cut scenes that features the events of the original's events will make you nostalgic. Even if this isnt true for some of you this game is surely worth it as the game continues as DLC, yes that rights.. DLC. mainly because the story and additional content which isnt mandatory unless you REALLY want the full experience of what this game has to offer. Anyway, i would recommend this game to anyone. Give it a shot (the beginning isnt very strong but you will be held later on) and you may even be playing this a 3rd time in a few weeks or so. P.S you may want buy the guide with this game, trust me it is VERY helpful when you get stuck. as a i said before you have a lot of freedom so along the way you may not have gotten what you have needed to continue. Trust me.

Significant improvement over FF XIII
I enjoyed FF13, but it's a game with a number of glaring flaws. I avoided FF13-2 for some time because FF13 left a bad taste in my mouth. After all the good word-of-mouth and recommendations from close friends, I decided to give FF13-2 a chance. I went in expecting an improved sequel and what I got was a much, much better sequel. Pros -Greatly more open-ended. You're allowed to travel to any area / time period you've been to at any point during the game except for a few moments when the plot locks you into an area. Areas are also much more open to explore. -Monster-catching is awfully fun. There are lots of monsters to catch for each of the six roles and monsters can be infused to transfer abilities if you enjoy min/maxing. -Much more post-game content. FF13 had only monster hunts and maxing out your Crystarium after you defeated Orphan. FF13-2 has chocobo races, gambling, collecting fragments, bonus endings, unlocking fragment skills, collecting all the monsters, and bonus bosses. -Battle system has two notable improvements: switching paradigms is much faster and the party leader dying isn't always an instant game over. -Serah and Noel are immediately more likable than FF13's cast. I eventually did like the cast of FF13, but it took considerable time. Surprisingly, Noel is optimistic and upbeat despite being from a future where he's the last human alive and rarely whines about it. Mixed -Square Enix knows how to make good eye-candy and some environments are very pretty to look at, but you can certainly see the age of this generation's consoles with FPS drops at some points when quite a bit is happening on-screen, artifacts, or close-ups of hands. Cons -Perhaps the game is balanced around hunting for fragments after you beat the game, but the game felt a little too easy. I did grind a bit for monster materials, but nothing significant. Before I knew it, I had a number of roles at high levels and boss fights were hardly challenging for the most part. -The storytelling is handled very poorly. The story itself isn't so bad once you get to the end and it's more understandable; until that point, however, the game either focuses too heavily on plot points that aren't as important as the game would like you think, poorly explains elements, or waits too long to introduce what actually is important (like Caius' real motivation). -Part of the ending is DLC. Serah and Noel have their own battle with Caius in Academia 500 AF while Lightning fights her own battle in Valhalla. To see Lightning's side of it, you have to pay for DLC. That's just such a shameful tactic to charge for part of the ending. -It's not a major issue, but I dislike seeing costumes as paid DLC. I feel that content like that should be something that you unlock by playing the game just the way it was in previous generations. You don't have to do this, Square Enix. Your game is good enough to stand on its own. All in all, FF13-2 surprised me with how much I love playing the game. I don't normally 100% a game, but I'm well on my way to doing that in FF13-2 because it's just so enjoyable. Give 13-2 a chance if you weren't a big fan of 13.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a true JRPG
I am not going to do a whole recap on the game, storyline or anything that you can read anywhere else, what I am going to do is tell you exactly what is important to know when purchasing this game. First off this game is your traditional what they call a JRPG or Japanese Role Playing Game. You are given a mission, and group of warriors, and you decide how you want to level up your players, what abilities they learn first, and what direction you want to take the game. Most of the RPG's that are out now try to combine a shooting game or a hack and slash game with a RPG. This is not the case with Final Fantasy, they stay true to form. Which for some is not the game they want and then they give the game bad reviews which should not be the case. Second, this game is exactly what you are looking for when it comes to the JRPG. It has a much better story then the first XIII because it keeps it more simple while yet playing off the old story. I would suggest anyone who has not beat the first FF XIII, look up on YouTube and watch the ending. The character you actually seem to interact more with then than the last game and the focus is more of adventuring out and finding what you need to progress on through the story. It recaps you on the story every time you reload your saved game so if you miss any part or forget because you haven't played in a week or so, your right back were you left off. Third, this game has improved in every aspect from the original game yet for some reason people seem to rate it a lower rated game. If you enjoy leveling up your character spending hours into searching, treasure hunting, and always completing every aspect of the game, then you will enjoy the story, battling and overall product. You do have to be stragetic when it comes to fighting certain bosses. Picking the right set of characters for the right battle will only help you win the battle for Grand Pulse and prevent Cocoon from collapsing. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give this game I high 9 almost 9.5 for being a JRPG which there just are not a lot of really good ones out there. If you are looking for a American RPG like Skyrim or Dragon Age, then purchase one of those games, but if you want the traditional old style of RPG's that you fell in love with as a kid playing Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, or Chrono Trigger this is a must have and could be the game you have been looking! It was for me.

A full game with an interesting story.
I want to start out by giving a brief description of my most liked and most disliked Final Fantasy games, so people can know if they have the same taste in games as I do. My top three favorite are FFVI, FFVII, and FFXIII. I've played all the main Final Fantasy games (I started playing them since FFI came out when I was in middle school) except 11 and 12 and like them all to a degree, but my least favorite are FF8 and FF9. - Gameplay: It uses a system very similar to FFXIII's battle system, except in this one you fight along side the monsters you collect. You can level up the monsters using items you find and use a fusion system to create some powerful companions. It can be fun collecting monsters to fight with, but I personally prefer FFXIII's system better. I do know, though, that I am in the minority on this. With the monsters fighting with you instead of a normal character, it limits the strategies you can use. Something they did fix with the game play that bothered me in FFXIII is when you do a paradigm shift, there is barely a pause. This way you can continue fighting without having to be worried about being killed while shifting. Another fix is that there is much more freedom of movement in this game. I wasn't bothered by FFXIII's linearity and slow story telling, but I know a lot of people were. Those that did won't have a problem with it in this game. There are a several puzzles you have to solve in the game. While they were fun to figure out at first, after a while they just became repetitive and annoying. - Story: FFXIII-2's story revolves heavily around time travel. It is very detailed with a lot of complexity to it. I've read a lot of people saying the story was over the top, but if you are ok with the Back to the Future Trilogy plot, then the story in FFXIII-2 should be easy to accept. The story revolves around two people, Serah and Noel. I thought I wasn't going to like Noel, but he turned out to be a pretty cool guy. Serah is so dependable, and has such a positive outlook on life that it is pretty much impossible not to like her. One other thing about the story, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR DLC TO SEE THE ENDING. It seems very likely there is going to be another sequel. The DLC barely answer any questions themselves, so please ignore those who say you do have to pay for the ending. - Graphics: I've come to expect extremely high quality graphics in Final Fantasy games, and this one does not disappoint. It's on pretty much the same level as FFXIII, but it does have fewer cut scenes. Overall Pros/Cons: Pros: - Intriguing story - Endearing characters - Excellent music - New twists to the FXIII battle system - More freedom of movement Cons: - I hate Mog. If he tells me to "think outside the box, kupo" one more time... - DLC is worthless, unless you want really strong pets like Lightning, etc., or you like the different costumes - I'm not a huge fan of the monster companions - Too many of those clock puzzles, and to do the quizzes in the game you need the manual or you need to look online for the answers; the answers are impossible to know otherwise Overall Score: 4/5

best surprise in the final fantasy series so far....
i personally did not have a problem with final fantasy XIII. although the story was all over the place and only starts to make sense in the sequel, the hours i played on gran pulse outweighed that. the combat system was good but flawed, however not enough for me to just hate the game. onto the sequel.. when i first heard of its development i was thinking "what about versus and type 0" and "how did they make it so fast they must have rushed it". I was excited although a little skeptical, i did like final fantasy XIII and a sequel did sound interesting.. this game is 10x better than the first one and a very great game at that. its really a shame people cant seem to get past the flaws of the first game and the difference it has with final fantasy games but they are really missing out. the game play is more polished in the sense that when you switch paradigms the screen doesn't pan the characters while you get beat up, you can change party members in the middle of a battle, and the addition of monsters. the monsters are a great way to substitute a third character that breaks up the dry two player experience.the story can be a little tough to follow but is easier to grasp than the first one. it is a little complicated but nothing that would make you loathe the game for. basically i had a great experience with this game (except there are no summons)and would recommend to anyone who would be interested

Great music, detail, story line, and the cinematic action sequences are really nice! Much more than you might expect!
My husband enjoys the game! He wanted a good RPG, but he got MUCH MORE than he expected! Without even playing Final Fantasy XIII, he could easily follow the story. Saving a game and then after a few days going back to the game - it gives you a recap of what's happened and where you are! That's amazing - no other video game we've played has been that helpful when you come back to it after some time has passed. The music is great, the dialogue is fine (you even get to a few choices to choose from), and the battles are still what we've come to love/expect from Square Enix and Final Fantasy. My husband LOVES THE CINEMATIC ACTION SEQUENCES where you become part of the battle. Instead of a regular cinematic battle sequence where you sit and watch the pretty action sequence unfold - all the while waiting for you to get back to playing and/or beating a boss - for this game, YOU HAVE CONTROL OF THE OUTCOME OF THE MOVIE/BATTLE!!! This makes it SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING TO PLAY compared to "just being a pretty movie sequence." If there was something for us to not like about it, it would be that its not as free-form as we'd like it to be. The maps are limited, so exploring isn't as good as they could have made it (compared to explorer-friendly Bethesda games that will not be named.) Other than that, its a GREAT GAME!

Good games but can get bored after awhile
The game is pretty good with not so linear storylines, great characters and that is a good thing. But on the downside, it gives you very little hints of where to go and that can become very frustrated sometimes. I don't need precisely location but more than just a picture in a large open area. Sometimes you wandering around for hours in the same place, fighting same enemies (they respawn) again and again. That can get very annoying and bored over time. With high level enough, I sometimes battle them half asleep and can still win. You can ride chocobo to get around without fighting monster but you do not have unlimited ride. There is only two main characters that you play all the time, a third character is a monster that you collect and train along the way. So, it does give you a little bit of strategy on how you want to develop your perfect monster fighter. Weapon is very limited, you cannot upgrade like the in previous FF XIII, and I found that there is only two or three set of weapons that you can purchase through out the games and that is about it. So in a way, the shop is pretty much useless. I did not complete the game because I got bored/frustrated searching for the hidden clue and cannot proceed further without these.

Wonderful Followup To Final Fantasy XIII
In my honest opinion, much better than its predecessor, Final Fantasy XIII. It seems to have taken the good from FF XIII and kept it throughout this title, all the while taking the bad and improving upon it. Love the fact you can roam much more and that post-game there is a lot of things to do and see. Currently, I am about 5 hours in and it is great, the beginning was not slow at all and threw you into things fairly quick. Story line is interesting and curious to see how it develops and evolves over the different time periods. Not too keen on the two member party nor some of the battle music, but those are both easy to look over. I was happy with pre-ordering it because of the $20 in rebates, but If you are on the fence wait a month or two and the price will drop or a used copy will surface. Do yourself a favor and pick up the game. Really worthwhile RPG that I am truly satisfied with.

I love it, I love it, I love it!
After the mediocrity that was FF 13 with all the complaints from fans it received i truly feel this game redeems the quality and epic nature that is suppose to be a FF game. If you just can't let go of the changed fighting mechanics from 13 than you most likely wont like this version but know that you definitely are missing out. No more filler for the sake of filler, no more 25 hours before the game gets going. Paced beautifully this game takes you from past to future to paralleled universes to alternate worlds all without making it feel forced. FF 13 story is reflected upon and integrated nicely so new players are not left out. To me they hit the epic mark in this installment and it's been awhile since i felt that way (i just don't like the ending). I could go on and talk about everything i like but then whats the point? Go play it for yourself.
