Terminator Genisys (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD)

Terminator Genisys is the best Terminator movie since T2. In fact, Terminator Genisys actually should have been the true sequel to T2, because the plot fits in with T2 in a 100% perfect way. In comparison, T3 didn't fit in with T2. The plot from T3 essentially said "T2 didn't save the day the way all of us were told and there was no need to kill the T1000 and destroy Cyberdyne, because everything was going to happen anyways." The plot from Terminator Genisys really only acknowledges events from T1 and T2, not T3 and Terminator Salvation. The plot in Terminator Gensys is so well written that it left Terminator fans like me and my family stunned at times! SPOILER ALERT: Everything you read from this point on is a spoiler alert. The movie starts out with Kyle Reese explaining how Judgment Day occurred, and then how John Connor saved his life. Then there is a need for Kyle Reese to go back to 1984. All of this is expected and it is done very well. But then, as Kyle Reese is in the time machine going back to 1984, SkyNet attacks John Connor! This is a HUGE surprise! While traveling back in time, Kyle Reese sees a vision of something very unusual from when he was a child. This was an important moment in time , because what Kyle Reese saw was not actually from "his" past. The vision Kyle Reese saw was from an "alternate" version of 1984. The reason for this is because "someone" (who we later learn was John Connor) sent a T-800 Terminator to protect Sarah Connor when she was a child. One of the most stunning moments in the movie was in 1984 when the T-800 representing the T-800 we saw in Terminator 1 arrived. As expected, the T-800 goes around asking for clothes. But then, another T-800 shows up and says "You won't be needed them." A tough-as-nails Sarah Connor then uses a weapon with a futuristic design to kill the T-800 that previously tormented her in the first Terminator movie! Kyle Reese then arrives in 1984 from the future. As expected, Kyle Reese goes around looking for clothes. But then we get another stunning shocker! One of the police officers chasing after Reese is a T-1000! ... True Terminator fans like me and my family were just going CRAZY saying "WHAT THE HECK! The T-1000 isn't supposed to be in 1984!" The T-1000 actually doesn't last long in 1984, because unlike in 1991 the duo of Sarah Connor and her T-800 protector have had many years to make a trap for the T-1000. I won't spoil what that trap is, but lets just say it is awesome. At this point, Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor agree the best way to prevent SkyNet from winning is to travel 33 years into the future to the year 2017. When they arrive naked, they are arrested. But the T-800 has been waiting for 33 years to get them out of trouble. I have to say I was then truly stunned again when the movie shows that the reason the timeline is about 20 years behind schedule is because that little punk Danny Dyson continued his father's work at Cyberdyne. Remember how in T2 we saw that Miles Dyson was killed. Well, Danny Dyson must have done some research and helped his dad, because Danny eventually achieved the same things his super intelligent dad was working on. But what about how Miles Dyson and Cyberdyne had a CPU from the first Terminator 800, while Danny Dyson did not? Well, Danny was getting information from SkyNet in a different way. I am not willing to spoil who it was giving Danny this information, but when you see who it was, you will be STUNNED! In 2017, one of the police agents who helps get Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese out of trouble is John Connor. It is at this point when Kyle Reese learns he is the father of John. It is also at this point when one of the BIGGEST SHOCKERS of the movie occurs when the T-800 arrives! ... I'm not willing to spoil that part. ... But let's just say Kyle had warned Sarah it was possible for this type of thing to happen! This sets the plot for the rest of the movie. ... This review is getting long. If this isn't enough to encourage you to watch Terminator Genysis, nothing will be. This truly is the BEST Terminator movie since Terminator 2 and is in the same league as T1 and T2.

Great movie

Great movie! 10/10! Wish they would've fell through with the part 2 of it idk why the movie company wasn't going for it. I can watch this movie 1000+ times no matter what.

It would appear, from the dates on most of the reviews, that they were reviews of the theatrical release of this movie, not the DVDs. The disk version of this movie was not released to the public until November 10, 2015, which was the date I received my package from Amazon containing three disks. The first disk in the package has just the movie in 3D. Second disk is a Blu-ray 2D disk of the same movie with extras showing how the special effects were created and featuring multiple interviews and comments from the actors. The third disk in the package is a standard DVD of the same movie. My wife and I viewed the 3D version of this movie on a Homegear 100" HD Motorized 16:9 Projector Screen W/ Remote Control from an Epson Home Cinema 3500 1080p 3D 3LCD Home Theater Projector . We enjoyed the fresh new actors playing the characters from the older movie versions, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as a recycled "old but not obsolete" Terminator/protector of Emilia Clarke in the role of Sarah Connor. She substitutes youth and beauty for the former Sarah Connor's biceps. Jai Courtney was cast as Kyle Reese, who was looking buff in his role and offering some beefcake for the female audience. Versatile Jason Clarke played John Connor. Between the special effects and the actors there was plenty of eye candy for both men and women in this movie. To like this move you must, of course, like the Terminator franchise, appreciate its long history, be willing to accept the implausible and enjoy the interludes of humor that were injected. J.K. Simmons, who has recently being doing Farmer's Insurance commercials, picks up where the psychiatrist obsessed with Sarah Conner left off and adds more to his role than his time-on-screen might suggest. Korean actor Byung-hun Lee convincingly plays the state-of-the-art Terminator sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor. The non-stop action, engaging characters, special effects and stunning 3D kept my wife and me involved throughout this movie, leading us to be completely satisfied with our purchase of this three disk set. The cost of this set was about the same as the two of us viewing the theatrical release in 3D in a theater but we'll be able to enjoy this movie as many time as we would like in the comfort of our home in stunning 3D.

as good as the first 2

Fanboy & spoiler alert. The best movie of the whole canon though they did give too much away in the trailer. I believer the movie does a great job of incorporating aspects of all the movies as well as the TV series. Such as John no longer being the hero in the future from the ending of the TV show and the progression of the Terminators such as from T Salvation. Great action, good humor, and advancement of the story line. Time travel and changing futures and changing pasts are never easy to explain and can get lost in bad writing. As Sarah said "The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves" so the possibilities are endless for a movie franchise. Many complain the explanation was convoluted and hard to understand but on further watching it is clear to see the writers worked hard to make it work and it does. Many also complain about the acting but it was done well. Could they have picked somebody other than Jai Courtney, sure but he did fine and Emilia Clark did excellent as a young Sarah. So don't compare them to the actors from the earlier movies and TV show because that usually never helps. So yes I am saddened at all the hate and that the sequels seem to be on hold. But then it is only entertainment and I am only an old fanboy.

What a surprise this movie was. Hadn't even heard about it. Watched it and was just blown away by the twist in the movie. Great cast. The terminator is showing his age a bit.

This is one of the best science fiction movies ever made with action, violence, and special effects galore! This is most similar to the very first Terminator but with MUCH more and better content. All types of Terminators from the past movies make an appearance , even a younger Arnold thanks to computer graphics. The fight scenes between Terminators are INCREDIBLE and like something out of a Marvel Comics movie! You read that right; the original Terminator is now on Sarah Conners side just like in another Terminator film(s). Reese is sent back to 1984 to ptotect Sarah Conner, just like in the original movie but this is more than it seems. Now everything has changed and nothing is the same! Emilia Clarke is hot and totally rough in this film! She puts the "girrr" back in girl! There is even a little comedy when original Terminator, now a "good guy", tries to be more human. Hilarious but do not let that fool you; the jokes are very brief but the violence is galore! This film is rated PG-13 for violence, language, and partial nudity. One hint why everything has changed; who would be the one person you would never expect to be bad? The one person throughout all the movies that you would never suspect a betrayal from? The name doesn't sound like a candy bar. One other surprise appearance is a rather recent actor known for playing Doctor Who. You mess with this program, you get thrown to the "Matt". Enjoy!

Excelente versión, el steelbook está muy padre, trae bastantes extras y versión digital, cabe mencionar que el código no es compatible con moviesanywhere, se puede canjear en itunes o vudu, así que si eres usuario apple no será mucho problema, en cuanto a la película me gustó y por eso la compro, se que no es la mejor pero esta bien, la recomiendo

This... This is the chapter of Terminator every fans was waiting for. It settles the continuity in an coherent whole, does best at explaining it's technobabble and demonstrating what was happening in the writers minds since the beginning, it gives a decent ending to it all, and does all this while having a decent mix of tragedy and comedy, action and philosophical thoughts. Also, it's eerie how the time machine looks EXACTLY how I had imagined it would be as a kid watching the first 2 movies. The bad points? Well, there were at least 2. 1 - Movies nowadays seems to go out consistently in the only goal to please "frustrated feminists" (Read "women supremacists"). Or more precisely, fearing to anger that special snowflake part of the audiences. This one does not make an exception. The reformed too-soon to be kick-ass Sarah Connor is an insult to Linda Hamilton's more humane depiction of the character. But this is not the fault of the new actress, simply the writing screaming "girl power" in the face of a now too goofy Kyle Reese. Once you accept this distortion made in the name of trying to please an imaginary audience that is sometime too far from the real thing however, the movie stands rather well. Even if it's comedic unity is maintained uniquely through the new T-800, polishing the corners of the more sexist jokes for at least half an hour of movie time. The rest though, is perfect. Because of course Kyle Reese will have the mentality of a kid soldier, he is one! And of course, a Sarah Connor raised by a killer cyborg will be way more harsh. And of course Skynet will eventually devise a plan to be it's most dreadful enemy. 2 - The second point is that while the movies tries very hard to reproduce some key moments from the franchise, it's actors have no idea how to play the profound 80s mindset that was the starting point for the franchise. They are in that not helped by their overcharged "bland sexiness". People in the 80s were not having the same beauty standards... And this movies looses much credibility to anachronisms in aestheticism. With all that said however, this turned out to be my favourite entry in the whole franchise! (Movie-wise). I would recommend it very much to anyone still not understanding the time mechanics of Terminator.

A great story with magnificent effects.

Ok, diese 5-Sterne-Kritik an Terminator Genisys (Standard Blu-Ray Edition) muss ich einfach schon deswegen verfassen, weil der Film hier teilweise unheimlich schlecht bewertet wird (1 Stern, etc.) und auch praktisch von der gesamten Presse zerrissen wurde. Für mich ist das vollkommen unverständlich. Mir scheinen da viele Kritiker schlichtweg eine Abneigung gegen Arnie zu haben. Und teils vermute ich bei den Kritiken, dass der Film nicht wirklich angesehen wurde. Denn hier und da werden Logikfehler oder im Film nicht erklärte Handlungsstränge kritisiert, die aber sehr wohl im Film erklärt werden! Man muss den Film halt nur aufmerksam ansehen...und ich fürchte, das tun viele Menschen heutzutage nicht mehr und verlangen besonders bei Blockbustern jede Filmwendung von der Erklärung her in riesigen, rot leuchtenden, Buchstaben auf dem Silbertablett geliefert. Ok, aber darum geht es jetzt ja hier nicht. Also, zur Kritik des Films: Wie der Titel meiner Rezension schon sagt, ist Genisys mit Sicherheit der beste Terminator-Film nach dem tollen ersten Teil und dem legendären Terminator 2 - Judgment Day. Diese Filme hab ich damals im Kino gesehen, war schlichtweg begeistert und hab sie seitdem bestimmt noch Dutzende Male geschaut. Der dritte Teil hat mich dann eher ein wenig enttäuscht, weil zu viel Witz reingebracht wurde und auch die Schauspieler von John Connor oder auch der T-X mich nicht überzeugen konnten. Tja, und der vierte Teil ging dann für mich eher in Richtung Endzeit-Mad Max-Film als das er ein Terminator-Film war. Auch die Regie hat mich dort nicht überzeugt, der Darsteller von Kyle Reese war vollkommen fehlbesetzt und nur aufgrund Christian Bale war Terminator Salvation noch halbwegs ok. Dann hörte ich von der Rückkehr Arnold's als "alten" Terminator, von einem Reboot der Serie...sah die ersten Trailer und die dort schlechten CGI-Effekte und dachte: "alles klar, sie haben's verbockt...den schau ich mir nicht mal an, weil ich mir sonst die schöne Erinnerung an Teil 1 und 2 komplett zerstöre." Und die schlechten Kritiken haben mich dann bestätigt. ABER dann hörte ich von Leuten, deren Filmgeschmack ich schätze, dass ich mir unbedingt ein eigenes Bild des Films machen sollte...den sie fanden ihn wirklich richtig gut. Also hab ich mir den Film auf Blu-Ray besorgt (übrigens toll von Amazon, dass die "Same Day"-Lieferung bestens geklappt hat!), angesehen und bin absolut begeistert! Die Handlung konnte mich absolut überzeugen und das Reboot ist durch einen guten Kniff in der Handlung auch durchweg gelungen. Interessanterweise haben die gleichen Kritiker, die das "Zeitreise-Reboot" bei Star Trek (J.J. Abrams) hochgelobt haben, hier bei Genisys total verrissen. Wieso? Verstehe ich nicht. Es funktioniert nach dem gleichen Prinzip und man muss dem Film lediglich aufmerksam folgen, um es zu verstehen. Eine wichtige Frage bleibt zwar in dem Film unbeantwortet, aber wahrscheinlich nur, weil sie im nächsten Teil aufgeklärt werden soll. Wie auch immer: die Handlung ist spannend, hat gute Wendungen und der Film hat trotz zwei Stunden Laufzeit nie langweilige Längen. Die Action-Szenen sind grandios und absolut gelungen. Tolle Effekte und tolle Kamera. Sehr seltsam ist, dass alle Trailer schlechte CGI-Effekte zeigen, diese aber im Film perfekt aussehen. Mir scheint, die Trailer wurden ohne abschließende Bearbeitung veröffentlicht. Außerdem apropos Trailer: wer die noch nicht gesehen hat...bloss nicht ansehen!! Einfach den Film schauen. Punkt. Denn: die Trailer spoilern praktisch die ganze Story des Films. Mal echt...wer diese Trailer genau wie das Cover (was auch spoilert) erstellt hat, sollte zur Strafe terminiert werden. ;-) Es gibt ganz, ganz viele Retro-Szenen aus den ersten beiden Teilen, die wunderbar in den Film eingebaut bzw. von den Originalszenen nachgedreht wurden. Für mich als riesigen Fan der ersten beiden Filme war es toll, dadurch noch mal an eben die Terminator-Filme von damals erinnert zu werden. Alle Schauspieler konnten mich in ihren Rollen vollkommen überzeugen. Herausragend ist dabei die ja von Game of Thrones bekannte Emilia Clarke, die als junge Sarah Connor perfekt besetzt ist. Hinter Linda Hamilton die beste Darstellerin dieser Rolle. Kyle Reese ist mit Jai Courtney ebenfalls wirklich gut besetzt. Er steht zwar im Schatten von dem "Original", Michael Biehn, macht aber dennoch einen soliden Job im Film. Ebenfalls passt die Chemie zwischen ihm und Emilia Clarke. Dummerweise hat es ausgerechnet Jason Clarke als John Connor schwer. Er steht nämlich im übermächtigen Schatten von Christian Bale und kann da nicht mithalten. Er ist definitiv ein guter Schauspieler aber für John Connor meines Erachtens nach eine Fehlbesetzung. Tja, und dann ist da Arnold Schwarzenegger. Und er ist im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes wieder zurück. Er kann als alter bzw. alternder Terminator immer noch voll und ganz überzeugen und klaut den "Youngstern" in fast allen Szenen mit seiner Präsenz die Show. Ganz toll ist, dass hier ein Gedanke aus Terminator 2 weiter gesponnen wurde. Denn im zweiten Teil entwickelte sich der T-800 ja grade zur Vaterfigur für John Connor, musste dann aber ja am Ende "sterben". Hier in Genisys wurde diese Idee logisch fortgesetzt, in dem der Terminator eine Vaterfigur für Sarah Connor geworden ist, was in vielen emotionalen und auch amüsanten Szenen auch gut rüberkommt. Vom Fazit her ist das hier wirklich ein toller Terminator-Film für die Gegenwart. Tolle Action, tolle Effekte, tolle Rückkehr von Arnold, tolle spannende Handlung und viele coole wie auch emotional ergreifende Szenen. Man könnte vielleicht sagen, dass einige emotionale Szenen leicht übertrieben wurden, weil der Terminator zwar lernfähig sein mag...dennoch aber keine Gefühle hat. Da hat man die Vaterrolle etwas übertrieben. Es hätten auch einige lustige Momente weniger sein können aber offensichtlich wollte man diesen Terminator-Film bewusst nicht so düster wie Teil 1 und 2 gestalten. Dennoch sind das nicht wirklich Minuspunkte sondern für mich eine Geschmackssache. Also, ist der Film genauso gut oder besser als Teil 1 und 2? Nein, natürlich nicht. Das ist auch gar nicht mehr möglich, weil dies Filme ihrer Zeit waren...die 80er und 90er Jahre. Heute würden diese Filme gar nicht mehr so funktionieren wie damals. Dementsprechend passt Genisys wunderbar in die Gegenwart, führt die Geschichte weiter, erklärt vieles, was in den ersten Teilen nicht wirklich gezeigt wurde (z.B. gibt es wesentlich mehr vom Kampf gegen Skynet in der Zukunft zu sehen, etc.) und schafft gleichzeitig einen glaubwürdigen, guten, Reboot des Terminator-Universums. Man sollte sich nur bitte von der Wunschvorstellung trennen, dass man nochmal einen Kyle Reese oder einen John Connor oder auch einen Terminator wie aus Teil 1 und 2 bekommt. Geht ja nun mal nicht. Es mussten junge, neue, Schauspieler her bzw. es musste der "alte" Arnold her und wie ich finde, ist diese Kombination wie auch der Film selbst absolut gelungen. Aufgrund einiger kleinerer Schwächen der Handlung und für mich etwas zu viel Humor bzw. bewusst eingestreute, emotionale, Szenen würde ich dem Film 4 bzw. 4,5 von 5 Sternen geben. Es wurden aber 5, weil in meinen Augen die ganzen schlechten Filmkritiken bzw. die 1- oder 2-Sterne-Kritiken hier absolut ungerechtfertigt sind. Klare Kaufempfehlung für Fans von Teil 1 und 2 bzw. für Fans von Arnold Schwarzenegger! Und die Blu-Ray ist übrigens auch tadellos. Bild und Ton (übrigens Dolby Atmos im Englischen) sind sehr gut. Diese Blu-Ray muss sich in technischer Hinsicht vor keinen anderen Blockbustern verstecken. Meine Kritik bezieht sich auf die englische Tonspur, da ich Filme nur im Original ansehe. Ich kann somit zur deutschen Übersetzung nichts sagen bzw. weiß nicht, ob diese den Film besser oder schlechter macht. Ach, und mal zur Info: nach dem schlechten Einspielergebnis aus den USA dachte man ja,dass es das wohl mit dem Terminator-Reboot war. Aber glücklicherweise hat der Film weltweit über 400 Millionen Dollar eingespielt (bei 150 Millionen Dollar Produktionskosten) und war somit ein finanzieller Erfolg und steht vom Einspielergebnis her hinter Teil 1 und 2. Hoffentlich gibt es dementsprechend eine Fortsetzung! Und wer bis hierhin gelesen hat: vielen Dank für die Aufmerksamkeit und (hoffentlich) viel Spaß mit dem Film! :-)
