Review: What an absolutely amazing book!!!!!! - I seldom write book reviews because I don't read a lot of non-fiction. And fiction books are all about ones taste in a book so it's really a matter of opinion but not with this book. If you are going to build a stitch and glue kayak buy this book. If you are thinking about building a stitch and glue kayak buy this book. If you are just curious about how they are made buy this book. What a wonderful book on the stitch and glue method of kayak building. If this book was $50.00 it would be worth every penny. The knowledge contained in this book on stitch and glue kayak building is almost priceless. I have been thinking about building a stitch and glue kayak for a couple of years now and this book provides great instruction on how to build one. I have seen some complaints that there were no Kayak plans in this book. It's not a plan book, it's a how to book. The best how to book I have ever read in my life. Over 45 years of this mans knowledge on building canoes and kayaks with tips and hints that he learned the hard way but that Mr. Mooores provides to us for just the cost of the book. There are other things about this book that others have missed or chose not to comment on. The quality of this book is outstanding. Better than most these days. Beautiful paper and images that are bright and sharp, no hazy crap to look at in this book, top quality all the way. And it's a hard cover book, something a person can look at for years to come. I have set this book on the coffee table and I read it every day. There is only one part about the book that saddens me and is in way Mr. Moores fault. Pygmy boats has gone under, no one has stepped up in the family to take over the company and what a shame as they made very fine kayaks. A great loss to the community. So in closing, Thank You Mr. Moores for a fantastic quality book on how to build stitch and glue kayaks. Review: Essential Book for Anyone Doing Stitch and Glue - This book is more complete than the manual that came with the two Chesapeake kayaks I built this year or "The New Kayak Shop" I used to augment the manual. It would not serve as a stand alone as it does not include plans. However, given plans or a kit this book will provide basic and detailed techniques, and special tricks that will help you build a very good boat. I will read it very carefully before building my next. The organization makes it especially useful as a reference book. A little over half of it covers the techniques for building and finishing stitch and glue kayaks. The remaining portion is a step by step log of the actual building of Chesapeake Mill Creek, a Pygmy Coho, and a Bear Mountain Enterprise. The Enterprise is a hybrid with a stitch and glue hull and strip built deck. The authors are very much on appearance rather than performance. There is much detail on varnishing. Note that the three kayaks built here do not have a hatch on the front deck (They didn't want to clutter their beautiful staining and varnishing.)so don't look for guidance on laying out your deck rigging. This is by far the most complete reference I've seen on this type of boat construction.

Helpful asset
The book seems sensibly organized for the construction process. It offers pro tips and warns of potential pitfalls to avoid. I think it will be an asset for my kayak build.

Good Overview
Its a good overview of how to build a plywood kayak KIT. It does not give you any plans to build one from scratch.. If you are looking for a good overview of what will be involved, and some caveats to the construction it is a good guide.

beautiful book
Not great as far as specific plans, but shows how beautiful a home built kayak can be.

LOVED THIS BOOK
There are so many tips and good ideas in this book. It is definetly worth it, Starting with building the ideal workbench, the ideas for using the templates to hold in the sides to fiberglass it as one piece instead of cutting it up to fit inbetween the bulkheads. Lots of nice color pictures, beautiful presentation. I'd definely recommend this book.

Great read for the beginner craftsman
Great book for the beginner, outlining all steps clearly and effectively while not overwhelming the beginner in technical jargon and terminology.

If you're wondering can you build a Kayak or what's involved - READ THIS ..... It really is THAT good
I'm genuinely amazed how comprehensive this book seems to be. I really feel confident that I can successfully build a kayak (if I can find the space and the hours required to do it) just using this book as a guide.

excellent book
We'll be using this book to build a Mill Creek 13 Kayak. From what we've seen thus far, the book appears to be excellent.
