Sodium Iodide compound for detecting oxidation reactions
This is a good compound for preliminary testing for oxidation of other chemical compounds. A sodium iodide solution if absorbed into paper that contains starch and dried and then exposed to an oxidation chemical: free iodine will be liberated which will react with the starch in the paper and produce a blue color, thus indicating an oxidation reaction. Hydrogen peroxide and chlorine gas will produce such a reaction with starch paper impregnated with NaI.

Customer with "Waste of Money" Review Didn't Follow the Directions
To make really good elephant toothpaste with Sodium Iodide and Hydrogen Peroxide, you need 30% Hydrogen Peroxide (not the 3% cheapo stuff for cuts). This requires protective gear, as it reacts very fast and produces tremendous heat (enough to produce "steam" coming off the foam). It is too hot for yeast toothpaste, as the heat kills the yeast.
