Review: Follow the directions and it's amazing.. - Read the reviews and follow the directions exactly. Here are some of my initial questions answered. Does the jewelry cleaner strip off the original gold color or plating from my existing jewelry. No. It cleans just like TarnX. Does the plating solution have to be hot to work? Yes 150- 160F is optimal. Microwave in 10 to 20 second intervals for good results. Shake or swirl the basket in the plating solution. Agitating the solution speeds up the plating immensely. Can you microwave the solution and the metalish plate? No, you probably shouldn't, but I did it once by accident and my microwave didn't catch on fire. Take the plate out between reheats. Can you continue to plate after cleaning the item with the enclosed gold polish? Yes, each layer goes on even better if you polish off the soot, haze, and tarnished looking junk off between dips. Is there anything I shouldn't plate? Yes, tightly woven chains or items with tiny links or crevices that cannot be reached by the polishing cloth. If you cannot buff the metal, it may end up looking dull and tarnished in the end. Most of my items did not, but just be aware that some items may NEED to be polished to bring back the luster. Now happy dipping! Review: DON'T RUIN YOUR JEWELRY - I recently purchased this product with hopeful intentions. But you know what they say, "there's a sucker born every minute". I read the instructions on the bottle and even watched the video. I attempted to plate two items, a silver ring and a watch band. I used their cleaner first as instructed. The ring came out horrible - a dark dull brassy color which did not shine up with the included polish. Under a loupe inspection, it is obvious that the plating is very weak (although I dipped it twice). The piece now looks like fake Indian costume jewelry with a greenish tint next to my other 14K and 18K jewelry. The watch band? What a waste of time!!!! First of all, anything bigger than a small ring will not fit in the "basket" and so I attempted to do one half of the band. It picked up the plating in places, didn't pick it up at all in others, ruined the plating that was already on it! (The band was previously electroplated in 24kt. gold) It is ruined. My only hope is to take it to a professional and have them properly electroplate it. DON'T RUIN YOUR JEWELRY!!! This product works less than marginally with a poor finished result.

DON'T RUIN YOUR JEWELRY
I recently purchased this product with hopeful intentions. But you know what they say, "there's a sucker born every minute". I read the instructions on the bottle and even watched the video. I Achieved Excellent Results
This product works as advertised and exceeded my expectations. The results will depend on the type of metal the gold plating is applied to. I started by polishing the base metal with a Dremel pad to remove the previous gold plating. Not removing the previous gold plating resulted in an uneven gold finish so I had to remove the plating and make a second attempt with the gold plating. Having a nice even polished base metal to apply the plating to enhances the final result a great deal. I also washed the part in a sonic cleaner before the plating process. The part I was plating was either a white brass or a silver alloy so I got lucky and did not need to pre plate with copper or silver plating. I used an infrared digital thermometer to ensure the solution remained at 150 degrees. It cools rapidly so I had to reheat it several times while plating. The results will depend mostly on careful preparation of the item to be plated and the type of metal to be plated. The gold polish applied with a cotton cloth did even out the surface of the plating and shined the gold plating. This product worked for me.

Be sure you have the right base metal!
I purchased this specifically to plate some jewelry findings. It did not work on those, I guess they are not a compatible metal. I ended up using it to plate 3 pairs of Balinese silver hoop earrings that I no longer wore (as I don't wear silver anymore). The plating system worked fine for those. The plate looks more like 14 karat which is perfectly fine for me. I don't have a microwave so after using the cleaning solution, I placed the gold solution in a small Pyrex bowl inside of a saucepan filled with about 1/2 inch of water. I left it on low and placed the jewelry holding basket directly into Pyrex bowl. At one point the solution became too hot and my earrings turned black. I just rinsed them off, dried them then began again when gold solution had cooled down.

Plating did not work for me but cleaner is very good.
didn't work for me. i read all the caveats that the plating must be applied to the correct metal to work. I really thought it would work for two long chains whose gold plate had worn down. I very much wanted to refurbish these chains so it was worth risking the cost of the product but the plating did not work out. the chains ended up with a dark undertone that made them look worse than before. I think, at best, you are taking a gamble on a plating product. The jewelry cleaner that comes with it, on the other hand, works beautifully on my real gold jewelry.

Good Product
It took me quite a while to decide whether to order this product or not due to some of the other reviews. So far I have had excellent results - I set my own gemstones in settings, so I was plating brand new, unused sterling silver. I think the reason some have had such bad results is that they try to plate something older and they are not sure of the type of metal the jewelry contains. Also, you need to take the time to really clean the piece before trying to plate it. Process was quick and easy.

Don't waste your money
Bought and used as per instructions to the tee., I have used this type of plating before (NOT Medallion though)so I was familiar with the process- (own a gun shop and used it to customize gun parts for customers to add that bling!)I bought this thinking I would have the same results...WRONG. I couldn't even get it to plate .999 silver! it seemed to kinda work better on cheap costume jewelery,So if thats your thing buy it. But I had no luck at all on anything that I needed it for.. PASS on this. Contacted the Company. Kept getting the "run around". She kept wanting me to use it on non silver items? (its suppose to work on Silver the best!)When asked if they could send me another bottle of the gold plate to give them a fair try again, she said they were out?? WTF? anyway, Save your money. The cleaner and polish works for what its worth. 1 star maybe. byersarms

While the process is easy to follow
While the process is easy to follow, and would, I imagine, work correctly on the types of metals recommended, I, like other reviewers, ended up with a ring that started to turn dark. It's just inexpensive costume jewelry, but because it was originally plated, I'd hoped it was based in brass and would work. Apparently not. I was able to rescue it enough to be able to continue wearing the ring, but won't be trying this again, on this ring or anything else. It's difficult to know what many pieces are actually made from, and whether they might fit the criterion.
