Impressive! But it needs to come in a quart size too
My 2014 Tacoma was developing some rust spots underneath, so I tried this rust converter. It worked amazing well! It looks like milk and does not have any nasty odor. I simply brushed it liberally on the rusty spots on the undercarriage, and within a day or two I noticed the rust was gone. No scraping or sanding required. I also did not bother painting over it afterward as the rust was all surface level and this really took care of it. Unfortunately, I only used about 1 quart of the stuff so I have a ton left over... if it came in a smaller container option that would be great. But still, for the price it worked great and took care of the problem, so I highly recommend.

It's a rarity to find a product that actually works
I'm not much for leaving reviews but it's so rare to find a product that actually does what is supposed to I use this on a 77 Cutlass frame I'm restoring and it worked perfectly I will probably buy this product again for other hobbies that I'm working on I can't say how long it would last but I applied it in 40ยฐ weather and it dried fine now I'm going to blow a coat of epoxy primer over it then do the Finish paint

It came out really nice but there was still some dark color in the ...
Hard to give a complete review as I really would need a few years to see how it goes. I will give a review of my current experience. The shipping was quick and the product was at my house in just a few days. I am restoring a 47 Chevy truck and there is quite a bit of surface rust and pitting. I completely sanded the door down, took a wire wheel to the pitting and finally sandblasted. It came out really nice but there was still some dark color in the deeper pits. I painted this product on with a brush. Almost immediately it turned all of the metal it came in contact with to a dark purple. Once it dried, it was almost black. Give it a day and put on another coat. After a few days I took the DA sander and went over the whole panel again, only leaving the Rust Converter in the pits. I cleaned it all up and did my body filler over top of the RC. Sanded down really nice. At this point I have primed but nothing further. After a few weeks all looks good. I really think the RC is going to help deter the rust from coming back. It is also easily sandable by hand and comes out really smooth, ready to take primer directly on. I'm overall happy with this product so far. But in all honesty, it will need to be painted and in place for a few years before I know it is going to work as expected. Thanks.

Use it, don't store it
Works exactly like it says. It does go bad once opened. Not sure what the shelf life is.

Affordable and effective
I bought a gallon of this stuff from here over two years ago. I've used it a couple times on small scale with mixed results. Just recently I decided to really give it a major test. I was trying to restore a Jeep Dana 35 rear axle. It had really bad rust all over. Here's pretty much the step by step what I did: 1. I cleaned off all the loose rust and chips with wire wheels and whatnot. 2. I cleaned the areas with mineral spirits (I'm not exactly sure if that was the right thing to use, but that's what I had so oh well.) And let it dry thoroughly. 3. Coated areas fully with rust converter. Goes on white/cream color and turns bluish, then black when dry. I let it dry for about an hour and then added a second coat. A little of this stuff goes a long way btw. 4. I let it cure for 2-3 days. 5. I painted with rustoleum professional rattle can flat black. 2 coats. No primer. Let dry for about a hour before second coat. After about a week everything is cured and it feels like a solid job. The paint is hard enough to meet my standards and it over all looks great. I can't speak for longevity, but initially I think the axle will hold up okay. Only time will tell.

Revising a one-star review to a five-star review
I just spent 3 long days peeling a 20-year-old commercial bedliner spray job on my F-450. Part of it had come loose and the rust was starting to be too much to ignore. Peeling The remainder with hammer, chiselwith and half dozen wheels of paint and rust remover with a grinder. The job absolutely sucked as each morning the entire grinded area was all rusted over again. I use the product over the really bad rust pitted almost through areas and it did such a good job even on the exterior parts that was just bare metal I ended up laying this product over the entire bed before doing a new bedliner rolled over finish. The proof was instant as the next morning there were no rust anywhere. The product does say wait 48 hours and it confirmed the effectiveness against rain and morning dew. I was quoted $1800 to respray a bed liner after I did all the hard work so I ordered the herculiner kit. I like this product so much I went on to use it on top of a 2003 expedition roof and then use the same bedliner finish on top of that roof. I have been to multiple finishing shops charging me thousands of dollars to stop the rushed holes on the old Ford roof and All I did is waste my money with them. This product along with roofing fabric over the holes of rust and the bedliner finish renewed my SUV for another 5 years. Can't beat the naturally aspirated v8s that has been maintained so why you lose a vehicle over rust that now can be taken care of with this phenomenal product. I am now using this chemical in a spray bottle to go underneath my truck and spray the entire frame along with the drive shaft and anything else that looks rusty. Every 6 months I go under the truck with a can of rustoleum rust converter and it's gone within months. This product is for real not just surface garbage. I'm starting to use this as the primer coat on anything that has metal.

This is my second time buying this now. With the last jug I rust converted the frame on my truck and the frame on my friends 20 ft trailer. It worked great. I'm hoping it kills the rust so that my frames last a lot longer. My second jug is for the second truck I'm fixing up.

it was eating through the paint even after letting it set for three days.

I give it a 4.5. Would be higher if not for the shelf life of the product. Initial supply chain glitch resolved with Paul. Converter works great if used according to instructions on the container ( jug). I did 2 coats 30 min. to an hour apart then a third coat the second day. Turns the rust, metal a dark purple, black colour then after the third dries to almost black. Just be sure to get the loose rust, flakes off (wire brush) before applying. One or two coats of paint and my truck frame looks new. Just be aware, product has a shelf life.

This rust converter works amazingly, BUT you have to MIX it really well. The first time I just shook the jug and the result is shown in my 2nd pic. It just looked bluish in colour ๐จ๐ฆ not black after it had dried and it was also covered in wrinkles where the rust was. I took a flat screwdriver and scraped it all off. What I noticed was when I scraped, the rust underneath was crumbly and dry so the poorly mixed converter did not penetrate. (I had scrapped, wire wheeled wiped with Acetone prior to application). So, I made a mixer with a metal rod from an actual paint mixer I broke mixing thin set mortar (haha), by adding zip ties cut to 2 1/4โ 3rd pic, and used my drill for about 3-4 minutes. It looks like youโre applying a vanilla milk shake. I reapplied and the finish was perfect, 1st picture. I proceeded to add another coat and it looks like it is already painted. I am now going to apply 2 coats of Tremclad Rust Paint, Iโm a happy camper!!๐

Great value for the money and it does exactly what it says on the tin. I will definitely buy this again.
