Hilarious, FUN game that doesn't take itself seriously
Such a fun game... - Likable characters - Hilarious dialogue - Absurd, fun story - Fun gameplay - Michael Rosenbaum voice acting the role of Nick This is an excellent bargain-bin game full of action, fun characters, zombies, dirty jokes...it's like a movie Joe Bob Briggs or Gilbert Godfried (or Rhonda) would've shown on TV. Nick (voiced by Michael Rosenbaum), the disembodied head/boyfriend of Juliet easily gets the best jokes and pretty much nails it every time he talks. There were points where I'd have to pause the game and laugh for several minutes at what Nick had just said. Graphics are decent, colorful, and the soundtrack is GREAT, full of classic songs like "Lollipop" and "Mickey". It's a shame the SJWs complained about this game as much as they did and gave it bad press, because it's really underrated. You even get a trophy for using the camera to look up Juliet's skirt - the game knows what it is, laughs it off and isn't ashamed of it. Anyway, for around $15-$20 it's totally worth the price and if you're the type to do multiple playthroughs, the game more than pays for itself with all the fun you'll have.

Great Button Masher, rather violent, not for young kids
Love this game. Its very amusing, but is for button masher fans. I have yet to see anything that is of an intellectual quality in this game. I think its rather similar to State of Emergency in that its a button masher with very limited different mission plots. Plenty of gore, so not for young children. There's an online mode were you can compete time runs against other players, if that's your thing. The story mode is very cliche but then I doubt this game is played for the story plot most of the time. Its a great aggression release game and if you're into fan service, the main character wears that skimpy cheer outfit doing back flips and such during video shots. So I will leave that to your imagination. The game is very closed world play in that it has very few places to explore. It has a load screen between chapters and new areas (which are rather small). So you basically can't get lost in this game. This game was exactly what I was hoping it would be. I button masher of gore and mayhem. If that's not your thing, you might want to check out something else. If that is your thing and you aren't offended by skimpily dressed women, this is an awesome game!

Entertaining with some control issues
This is an entertaining game, let me put that out there first. It's your basic hack-and-slash every zombie in your path type of game, but it has an enjoyable mashup of songs that'll get stuck in your head, brain-dead humor (did you see what I did there?), and just an overall creative atmosphere. You play as a Juliet, the zombie-hunting cheerleader, who as you might guess, wields her chainsaw while sucking a lollipop. From that description, and looking at the title cover, you may think, "this is just a vapid, eye-candy character with a market saturated basic enemy type." You'd think that, and you'd be exactly right. The cover tells you exactly what you're getting. However, it doesn't nearly address the amount of simple enjoyment generated after you play through the first level. It's fun, and the characters know it's for fun. So it's not taking itself seriously by any means; and if anything, it pushes the envelope to show how well-adjusted it is to the fact that the hopes of humanity, ride on the shoulders of our busty, air headed, pom pom touting main character. What I dislike about the game is that sometimes the controls can be very clunky. This game is intimately a quick-time-event game as it will move you from stage to stage by performing a chainsaw QTE on a wall or jump through a window. If you're not in the right spot, it won't register you pressed anything. Or, in a stage filled with a sequence of QTE, if you miss one, you're forced to start the ENTIRE stage over. So you have to go through not only the redundant fights, but also the short cinema moments that are impossible to skip, all over again. It was very frustrating for me at times. I'm not a big fan of QTE, and this game mixes it in pretty often. This upsets me because it takes me out of the fun of performing combos on leagues of zombies, or knocking their heads through basketball hoops. That's my biggest gripe because there were several scenes were I clearly accomplished what I should have within the time limit, but because I was in the middle of it's animation cycle, it didn't register. Hell, even the beginning of the game says "Press Start" ... I push the start button. There is no sound, or an animation following my button press that affirms that I pushed the button. After a a few seconds, it will move from that screen to the main menu. That sort of thing bugs me, but it gives you an idea where the game went wrong. Controls aren't always solid. And sometimes the graphics don't load everything up quickly (PS3 version). Despite that, it is enjoyable game that mixes up the action in different ways with different challenges. Keeping it light and lively with Micky You're so Fine, and punk rock and metal choices. You can always customize what you listen to, and also what Juliet is wearing. It's fun, and if you can pick it up cheap like I did, you should get a solid number of hours entertainment sprinkled with moments of "WTF?"

The offspring of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Walking Dead?
To answer the question above, no. But imagine a teenage cheerleader ZOMBIE slayer in the vein of the BtVS movie and you've got a pretty good idea. It's not meant to be taken seriously (I hope not) and is just funny, bawdy, tongue in cheek enough to have a endearing quality. Quips are nicely traded and one doesn't completely hate Juliet Starling's airheadedness. The character I find disjointed at times for she is at times daft and other times well spoken. I suppose the same could be said about TV's Buffy, but this game obviously lacks the writing depth of Joss Whedon. Instead, the game packs in more kitschy Japanese influence. But all of that doesn't really matter, does it? You're looking at the game for Juliet's polygons and zombie dismembering chainsaw action. Both deliver. There's even a trophy/award for trying to look up her skirt. But the zombie fighting is meaty, the combos can be challenging but fun and, c'mon, you're a cheerleading chick slicing up zombies. Some of the controls are weird (when you get a call from your mother, for example, there's no button to press to answer, you have to pause the game and go into a menu screen and find your new message... why can't I just answer it ingame?), the button layout has caused me some grief as it's not always a standard layout or intuitive in button mashing. There's no real leveling system though you can get new outfits (duh, it's the reason you're playing a skimpily-dressed cheerleader killing zombies game) and spend points to buy better attributes. And you'll spend so much time in the menus that Lollipop by The Chordettes will be burned into your psyche. It's fun for what it is, just don't ask it to be anything else.

Great game
What a great game with a unique storyline concept. Here, we have Juliet, who is a zombie hunter in a long line of zombie hunters in her family. Her father and her sister are also zombie hunters. She is afraid of having her boyfriend, Nick, find out the truth. However, this becomes inevitable and what follows is quite humorous. The banter between Juliet and her boyfriend, Nick, through out the game is hilarious (most times). The graphics are beautiful, very visual, very high contrast. The gameplay was really fun. It might be a guilty pleasure, though because it was also pretty easy and I finished this game up in probably about three days. I might go back and play it because it is a high score game and I like the idea of those. One thing that I didn't care much for in the game was the repetitive fighting of the bosses. I guess it is okay for one or two bosses, but it should not have been for all of them. Overall, I do recommend this game. Yes, it can be a bit silly, but that is the point.

A enjoyable, profane, rainbow/sparkle covered zombie horde murder spree.
If you are easily offended by "bad" words, turn back now. This is not the game for you. For everyone else: Lolipop Chainsaw is a very unique game. It combines the fun of mass zombie slaying, quirky stylish rainbow/sparkle effects complimenting the dismemberment, numerous references ranging from Monty Python to bands to zombie movies to internet, a fair bit of humor, a good bit of profanity and profane lines, a small amount of fan service, and a quite workable and fun combat system. They also throw in a fair amount of mini games to break things up. Somehow it ties this all up in it's satisfying rainbow sparkle package. Outside of the profane language used the only possible flaw I see is that the game is rather short. A weekend play could easily beat it, or a dedicated day for those with more time. Lets break it down now: Story: I rather enjoyed it. They embrace the cheesey and non-nonsensical nature. They poke fun at other movies and themselves as well. The story doesn't really take itself serious and yet it provides more than the "oh here are enemies to kill". It provides a source of amusement and character that adds to the game. Graphics: I've seen better but the graphics are nothing to sneeze at. Things look crisp and good. No slow-down was encountered and things played fluidly. The visuals from attacks and hitting zombies are amusing and well done as well as the zombies and environments themselves. Controls: The controls don't feel quite as masterful as a game like god of War or Devil May Cry, yet the controls are still well done. You'll feel yourself desiring to be a little more fluid at times, because chainsaw attacks leave you open for brief amounts of time, but you'll find the dodging to be more than apt at dealing with this. Also once you start unlocking more combo's you'll find this disappears entirely if you're using combos wisely. Clever additions to the game in control scheme add some control stick manipulation and button presses for finishing off enemies and some in game actions. They are never too difficult and go a long way to adding to the flavor. This is one of the first games that made me feel like they were taking advantage of the fact I'm wielding a bloody chainsaw!! Combat: Not too deep, but fun. Ultimately though somewhat simple the combat is just satisfying. I never thought I would enjoy spray the screen with rainbows, sparkles, and severed body parts/heads so much fun :). Make good use of the dodges and your chainsaws sweeps and you'll be fine. Profanity: Yes this gets it's own section. This game says some pretty lewd things and some pretty profane things. Overall I found them humorous and well paced, you never feel drowned in it and yet there is always another comment somewhere around the corner that makes you say "I can't believe they put that in there.". I have a fairly high tolerance for these kinds of things and while not offended I'm very surprised they added some of the things in there that they did. Still I'm kind of glad they did. The game has it's own quirky appeal to it, profane or not. Ultimately for many I feel like this may be a rental due to it being so short. But for those that like quirky games or zombies this is worth owning, provided you can handle a good share of profanity.

Refreshing and Fun
Before buying Lollipop Chainsaw I was quite skeptical of the game. While it was made by the legendary Suda 51, I wasn't happy with his previous title No More Heroes. However, I am glad to say Lollipop Chainsaw was a refreshing good time. You probably already know what the game is about so getting down to the grit let's talk about the actual gameplay. Combat consists of chaining together weak strikes (pom pom attacks) with strong strikes (lollipop chainsaw). The combat is simplistic in the opening but the game allows you to upgrade your attack, defense, health, and add more combos. There are a number of alternate costumes to unlock which also change Juliet's character model during cutscenes. Presentation wise the game has a ridiculous story but it's not afraid to poke fun at itself and other games in the genre. Some of the jokes do fall flat but it's entertaining overall. There are some flaws though. The controls are "mostly" responsive but there are hiccups as Juliet's animation doesn't always transition smoothly between some combos. And also the mini-games (zombie baseball specifically) are nigh unbearable. Still, if you're looking for a fun game to play over a weekend or just something different from what's out there this would be a good choice.

The Weirdest, Best Action Game Since Bayonetta
Get this game right now if you want to be blown away by some crazy-cool style, bawdy language, fun combat, addictive gameplay, tons of unlocks, and I could go on and on. The zombies are kind of cool but they are just the dressing on this insanity salad. The first level alone left me so euphoric I was replaying it just to get my score higher and laugh and the hilarious scenarios again. I play a lot of shooters and this is definitely what I needed to clear the palette. Don't listen to the self-proclaimed professional reviewers who ditch this game because it should be "so much more". That's like saying Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror" should be so much more, which is the closest work of art I could say captures the feeling of this game. If you think Lollipop Chainsaw is supposed to be like Ninja Gaiden, God of War, or anything in that vein, you would be mistaken and this game would not be for you. But, I know I'll be playing this one a long time. Thank you Suda51 for taking the risks to bring this masterpiece to the public. We need more games like this.
