Vikings Season 3

This historical drama has all the elements of a great show, a formula to follow for any genre piece set in any time or location like well-developed characters, flawed heroes, charming villains, surprise plot twists, and that tried and true method of ending an episode on a cliff hanger to break down any small amount of self-control that IP based television viewers may still have so that binge watching thirty in a row is a guilty fun indulgence. However, there is one component that is distinct to Vikings which is not always present in other period pieces; something of a relief to a viewer not to have to exercise in great quantity or here on this show, rarely if at all. One only has to revisit your course on The Study of Theatre mandatory fine arts elective to recall what a stumbling block a show producers could create by relying too much on the practice of calling for the suspension of disbelief in their viewers. As an expert study even if I do say so myself on combative cultures spanning all of world history, I truly have not yet been made aware of an awkward byproduct of either script or scene that has called on me to employ the former method; so in addition to enjoying watching well rounded, likeable characters interact with one another in interesting plots while hacking each other to death along the latest faction lines, I recommend it as a family show too for the historical accuracy and insight it offers into that elusive post Roman post Norman period of English resolve to end incursions on to their beloved island home like those on the Norwegian Coast as I recall it was referred to, thus setting a precedent which the British would adhere to with such resolve that whether from the Armada, Napoleonic continental system of blockade while seeing invasion opportunities to Luftwaffe steel raining bombs to prep for Operation Sea Lion. But all were repelled by that resolve largely stirred up by Vikings, who in the end, inflicted the greatest damage on the King's Speech as well as the one their Yankee cousins mangle with the great vowel shift and redundant, non-conjugated verbs for different subject pronouns by number or familiarity. These shortcuts linguistic researchers reason are the imposed by a conquering army, adults past prime second language learning years, who try sincerely to learn but end up taking linguistic shortcuts for the sake of expediency during transactions with the native people.. So for example and in summary:Vikings,3: I liked it, you presumably will have liked it, my wife liked it, the neighbor liked it, the whole family - we all liked it, I heard in Norway they liked it,...

Ok, I love the series. Travis Fimmel and Gustaf Skarsgard are fantastic. They steal every scene where they appear. Just watching Ragnar interact with Floki Is worth the price of admission metaphorically. The story is based on Norse Sagas and so is mostly fiction. Still there are small nuggets of history in there. Season 3 starts in Wessex and then moves to Francia to sack Paris. The Danes, Frisians, or Norwegians actually did attack Paris. But for heavens sake, we are talking about the tiny island where you find Notre Dame cathedral. There were 200 defenders. This story slaughters hundreds of Vikings attacking 30 foot stone walls of some island miles wide. No Viking would attempt such a thing. They might attack a timber palisade but not stone walls. In fact King Alfred supposedly learned from Count Odo to build timber walls and thus stop the Viking raids. All of that aside, you get sick watching Vikings slaughtered and burned. Even Ragnar is hurt badly. But there are always more Vikings to make another attack. This is a Canadian/Irish production. So there are some digs at the British aristocracy. All of the monarchs of Europe are descended from Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy. So this story has Rollo act as a drunk, a traitor, a womanizer, and every other dumb thing. The real Rollo was a fantastic warrior and progenitor for the Normans that followed. Rollo's descendants are the ones who built the stone walls around cities. But, I guess that would steal the story from Ragnar. So if you can ignore the history and roll with the blood bath, this series is pretty good. My wife hates the blood bath, but guys should like it just fine.

If the Sistine Chapel was Michelangelo's defining master work, then the same would have to be said for Micheal Hirst's vision & creative interpretation in terms of the mini-series, The Vikings. In such a work, it need not be expressed that although Hirst might process this most unique, mythical & intriguing tale in his head; the act of successfully translating that idea/thought to film rests heavily on the shoulders of the talent, abilities & creativity of the cast & crew involved with the production. Most amazingly, not only have each of the actors have expressed this ability to add that "sometime special & magick" to their respective characters with gritty authenticity but to also emote the different & varied interaction[s] & relationships to/with each other, their Deities, & their physical, emotional,intellectual responses to the situations that beset them. The cast demonstrates that the most subtle use of body language, gesture, facial expression,or briefest actual verbal exchange[s] is able to convey significant & profound meanings on many different levels; even the employed "silences" speak, volumes when utilized in the correct context. Gratitude & props to all for their brilliant, strong, & powerful contributions in this compelling enactment of a Historical Legend! * The thoughts & past reviews of The Vikings have more eloquently expressed the quality of this presentation than my own literary ability will allow me. The only personal observation that might be shared is that, usually, it is some powerful work of "Literature" that provides the content for adaptation to different creative media, such as film/movie, ect. However, in reference to The Vikings; I find the opposite to be true. This [45/50 minutes per week] film presentation just screams to be written into of those thousand-plus page novels possessing the ability to detail & chronicle this truly Amazing Tale as it deserves to be told. * Vikings- Negatives: 1] Each episode is much too short & too fully stocked with food for the imagination. Sometimes, it might require, a 2nd watch to digest all the information !!! 2]-At the conclusion of each episode, one may experience a few minutes of disorientation & light-headed dizziness in the cognitive effort to return to the calender year of 2015 & his/her subjective reality. I've been informed that although this condition is temporary & not medically/physically hazardous; it can be "Habit-Forming, Inspiring, & Addicting":}

I happened across this series by chance and was hooked from the beginning. The characters like Ragnar, Bjorn, Floki, Rollo and Lagatha come alive. The producers did a fine job of casting. The stories are fairly well thought out and show the forward thinking of Ragnar as he sails to England to explore. The culture of the Vikings is very interesting and makes me want to learn more about their history. Season 3 has Ragnar wanting to take Paris. He finds that he is thwarted by his own brother. Many other side events are also happening that adds to the stories of the other characters. The dynamics of the political events happening both in the Viking camps and the courts of the Saxons and French are intriguing. This series has everything, sex, action, history, political intrigue, betrayal and very good photography. I could go on, but I have binge watched through season 4 and now have my DVR set for season 5. I highly recommend this program.

This show is terrific. Love the characters, actors, and cinematography. Based loosely on the Ragnar Lothbrok sagas, the stories are absorbing and incorporate historical background and details. Not that it is all that accurate... since modern storytelling just can't resist inserting anachronistic values and glamour; but they try to keep the feeling of an old Norse world. This season moved along quickly and the characters really come into their own. The conflict between old religions and new comes to a crisis point in this season, and it is in the depiction of this, that the most errors are made, in my opinion. A modern man's view of the matter, as a secular bias would make it, is the perspective woven into the storyline. Historical fiction is always subject to fleshing out sometimes quite flimsy facts, and this is based in legend in this story, at any rate. But it isn't the historical accuracy which draws us into this show, but the fascinating characters. Most of them are well rounded pictures of humanity in all their glory and flaws. Identifying with the common joys and woes of humanity in our heroes is what makes a great story, and this show delivers that most satisfactorily.

The discs come in plastic snap cases. They play fine. Vikings (2013- ) is a great show, interesting story arc, colorful characters, and wonderful scenery. If you like the series you will probably like The Last Kingdom (2014- ). I like The Last Kingdom more than The Vikings for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is the doubling of The Vikings disc prices after season three. Instead of releasing the entire fourth season in one plastic snap case they decided to split the season and release a volume one and a volume two so they could make twice as much money, like Outlander (2014- ) did when the season one discs were released. I hate that type of price gouging so I stopped buying The Vikings after season three and refused to buy Outlander. Outlander got smart and released the season two discs as a single season set instead of price gouging by splitting the season, but I’m still boycotting the show because of what they did when they released season one. If you like getting the best bang for your buck I suggest buying something else instead of encouraging The Vikings and Outlander and other shows to price gouge. Here are a few of the series I really enjoyed watching more than once: Band of Brothers (2001), Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), Black Sails (2014-2017), Cowboy Bebop (1998), Downton Abbey (2010-2015), Firefly (2002), Game of Thrones (2011-2019), The IT Crowd (2006-2013), Jericho (2006-2008), Lonesome Dove (1989), Lost (2004-2010), Merlin (2008-2012), Pride and Prejudice (1995), Rome (2005-2007), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011), Stargate: SG-1 (1997-2007), Stargate: Atlantis (2004-2009), Star Trek The Original Series (1966-1969) and Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001). I didn’t list any contemporary series I’m following that don’t have an end date yet, not conducive to binge watching from beginning to finish, or the hundreds of other fantasy and science fiction shows I’ve watched. If you like reading try some of my favorite authors: Richard Adams, Palo Bacigulupi, Suzanne Collins, Abe Evergreen, Diana Gabaldon, Hugh Howey, George Martin, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

Great series, we loved it!

I have never been so addicted to a show in my life! I can watch every episode multiple times, and NEVER watch shows more than twice. It's like a toddler with a Disney movie.....they watch it over and over, day and night! That's me with Vikings, since the 1st episode. If I were younger, I could imagine I'd be dressed up as a shield maiden and going to ComicCon ;) Excited that season is to have 20 episodes, so I impatiently wait next 10! Yes I will miss Travis Rimmel's piercing eyes and his role as Ragnar, but excited to see the journeys of his sons. Love the battle scenes and blood and guts and also the other storylines so far....and the scenery is beautiful. Not sad that Porrun left, and don't wish her to return. I hate reviews about "authenticity" and those that bash some aspects of the show. Its not a documentary, it's historical fiction and if some of the historical "facts" are not 100%, oh well! It's a great, entertaining show that I hope continues for many more seasons!

Wir waren sehr enttäuscht, denn diese DVD s lassen sich hier auf einem in Deutschland gekauften DVD Gerät nicht abspielen und beim Kauf war es nicht klar ersichtlich, dass man einen Multiregionsgerät benötigt. Schade. Wie dem auch sei, der Verkäufer hat prima reagiert und die DVD s zurück genommen und das Geld nebst Porto erstattet. Also für den Verkäufer: Daumen hoch! ;)

Season three was fun to watch, very entertaining. The Blue Ray disc set was fine, though lack of subtitle is annoying. Vikings is available on Showme in Canada now, so you might be able to save some money by watching it online.

Came in perfect time for my brothers birthday. Very good price and placed in original plastic, very satisfied.
