Best scan tool for the money.
To those who gave this unit one star because you couldn't be bothered to contact customer service to get things figured out: get a life. This scan tool does more than any other scan tool on the market and it does it with flying colors. I've used scan tools from Innova, Actron, OBDLink and other companies, and they don't even come close to the usability and functionality of this tool. You can do live scans, make-specific scans, generic scans, scans on the powertrain module, transmission module, ABS module, body module and more. I've done scans on 1998 Volkswagons through 2013 Audis and it has NEVER failed me. I've probably scanned 50 different cars from the USA, Europe and Asia in the 7 months that I've had this and it is by far the most thorough tool on the market. It catches things that don't even show up on the highest-priced Innovas (even if you use their over-priced make-specific flash modules.) This tool uses software from the MaxiDAS, which many pro mechanics use, so what you're essentially getting is the scan capabilities of the MaxiDAS without the bi-directional capabilities. I was fortunate enough to purchase this right when it came out and was priced around $220. It's since gone up in price significantly, but knowing what I know about this tool, it's still worth what they charge. Now that I'm using the MaxiDiag MD802, I wish I hadn't bought the OBDLink OBD-II USB Scan Tool Interface Adapter (425101) , which after spending $$$ on the tool and the pro-upgraded software, actually ended up costing me quite a bit more. The OBDLink and the pro software only churns out generic info and is so much less capable than the MaxiDiag, that it never leaves the cart anymore. The Autel MaxiDiag finds issues that you will never find using a generic tool, inlcuding factory Bluetooth issues, lock switch problems, factory-specific ABS faults, etc. It lets you clear just about every code your ECU can come up with. This is a very important feature since on some makes, such as Hyundai, you need to clear the codes after you do the fix or the car will continue to think there's a fault and it will not work properly until the code is manually cleared. This is now becoming a common thing with manufacturers since they want you to take your car to a dealership, where it costs $120 just to use a factory tool to clear a code, which only takes a couple of minutes. In this regard alone, the MaxiDiag paid for itself after about four uses. For the sake of full disclosure, I was having a problem updating my scan tool the first time I tried Autel's Auto Update software. It was admittedly my fault, since I didn't follow the instructions in the manual exactly as written. I got in touch with Autel customer service and they fixed it in a day. You can't ask for more than that. The updates have been super easy to do and as of today, I'm running V2.0 of all the makes. There are 47 different makes represented on this tool, if I recall correctly, including Dacia ("GOOD NEWS!"), GM, Ford, Ford (Europe), Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Holden, Ferrari, Lancia, Chrysler, Suzuki, Fiat, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Honda, etc. etc. etc. I can't really think of anything bad to say about this tool. It's easy to use, professional grade and to be honest, it's a bargain when you compare it to the next closest thing out there that has the same capabilities. EDIT (November 2016): I've loved using this tool for the past few years. Autel has done a really good job with the software updates and its website is finally up to the level that this tool deserves. I recently paid $100 for another year's subscription to tool updates and am running Version 6+ on pretty much everything (meaning it's good on most vehicles up to the current model year.) As a scan tool, I still think this product is hard (if not impossible) to beat for the price. Since the tool originally came out, Autel has added additional functions like oil change light reset and several other handy functions. Five stars all the way.

very good tool...worth the extra $100 +price over actron and innova. review include important info for bmw users
Scanner is all systems model, very impressed in initial quality....hope it will last Comes with plastis hardcase, cd, manual,4g sd card, usb cable, obd. Cable. Scanner can be powered from usb cable by computer or charger or by other adapter when away from car. Long review/ important info for some users i have tested it on 2001 crv, 2008 bmw 328 xi , 2005 cadillac and 1997 rav4. on crv: it read srs and abs, it disconnect from crv a few times in abs mode but always reconnects. I was able to see wheel speed sensor live data and other live data and generic obd info on bmw you need to know the car generation or it might appear the scanner does not read your car..IT DOES... The bmw named above is 4th generation so in my case i selected 3 series, then E90/91/92 which is the 4th generation/year range code name and then i get the prompt for specific model and choose 328 xi. Saw over 100 + choices for 3 series, 4 generation alone...Unit scanned over 30 modules in bmw and did show a few faults ( i did not varify faults..but most modules reported ok) and no mil/ check engine light present..just connected for testing. Only module explored was tire pressure, Scanner read sensors. One problem with bmw.. generic obd check froze scanner twice while module check works great....issue may only be this bmw and since you can read the modules otherwise its not a big deal to me On cadi it read modules and even confirmed with more detail what the onboard information center gave such as passenger side open loop on airbag among others 97 rav4 ..scanner reads live data..use to find bad connecter on oxygen sensor and varify fix... i think it will not read modules before 2000 ..i think i read somewhere in manual Unit updates flawlessly with vista pc. Inserted cd to update and was led to wesite wich redirected me to autel new website. I was required to sign up for an account...once that was done i was able to update after providing serial # and register password found in scanner setup section. software is nice in that it shows all possible updates and when you insert your sd card from the scanner in computer reader, it compares what is on the sd card and only shows updates that are not on the card..so you dont have to check line by line...software does it..you choose to install or not..i also like this because i intend to backe up.my sd card...size sent is 4 g.....you will need a larger card..maybe 8g or more to download all car model software and for saving live data scans. CON: none when i capare its ability to read modules as compared to innova and actrons line up, i can live with a few disconnects on some modules. But for information sake: does not read modules before 2000 (I THINK) Pro: like update software and by sd card, went smooth via vista. Can back up card Power via usb cable away from car Read 30+ modules on test bmw Live data works well Note/reminder: for some vehicles..you need to know car generation name...took me over two hours to figure out ..used google after initial failure to scan

Let me start off saying, WOW! Autel makes one of the best diagnostic equipment of the market and i own multiple Autel products. I am a mechanic by trade and i can tell you that this unit can do it all for you for a fraction of the price of other scan tools. I have a Snap-On truck that comes and tries to sell me a scanner costing $2200, not even kidding and it can't even do half of what this scanner can do. I would like to start of saying why i purchased this scanner, i purchased it because of the portability of the small tool and need to scanner a body code of my truck and needed a lightweight professional scan tool. Quick In depth Review: This tool can really do it all for the price! It can read Engine, Transmission, Airbag, EPB, ABS, Chassis codes, Body codes, even more (I have a technician in my shop, he paid $1100 for his scanner and can't even read body codes.) - It can read codes, erase codes, display's live data of all systems (if available by the manufacture.) For example, If you have a check engine light on and you have a misfire code of P0300 (Which is a Random Misfire Detected if anyone is wondering.) You can go into live and determine what actually the engine is telling you not just guessing you might need to replace your spark plugs or wires because not all causes that's what it is. You can accurately determine the problem the first time and not spend countless hours and money trying to figure out the problem. The ability to see and record live data is very helpful to diagnose issues. Adding to that, i can also do some TPMS diagnosis. I had a woman come in wondering why her TPMS light would always come on even though all the tire pressures where correct OEM spec. So i plugged this scan tool in and read the Body and Chassis codes and come up with the TPMS Module code U0127 (Lost communication with TPMS Module.) Ending up the module needing replaced but she wouldn't have known that without the scan tool reading the code. I was even able to graph data of the module when i put the new one it. Amazing! - Anything 1996 to present has OBll (This tool can read OBl, but only has the ability to read a code and is difficult as some manufactures doesn't support it.) This can read anything from American (General Motors, Ford, Chrysler) to European (Volkswagen, Audi, etc,) to Asian (Honda, Toyota, etc) It can read, erase, live data on all modules across many different manufactures. I work with a variety of vehicles and it can do it seamlessly with any manufacture (That being said, just because i can read a certain module of my truck doesn't mean you will be able to read the same module on a different truck. It will not scan every module in the vehicle, meaning it only scans the module your vehicle is equipped with. It will scan only what is available from the manufacture.) In addition, some manufactures won't let you access a module and scan only accessed with a OEM Scan tool for that manufacture. An example would be a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche equipped with a Heated Seat Module and then plugging in to a 2010 Honda Ridgeline equipped with a Heated Seat Module. Two different manufactures, Honda may not let you access the module but owing a Chevrolet there is not problem accessing it, this is only an example but manufactures want you to take it to them to repair, that's how they get you in the door. - Newer vehicles meaning 2012 - 2018 most likely as i have seen give you more data because the OBll system is more advanced and more specific which also various across each manufacture. With OBlll coming soon which will be the most advanced system on vehicles made it will open up a variety of opportunities of diagnosing repair. - Operating System, The operating system on the tool is fairly basic, click scanning engine codes, scanning the entire body or chassis system, click for settings, etc. It is straight forward. I can say though for the average user that may have never used a scan tool this advanced. It can get complicated, for example when you plug it in to scan the engine light it will ask you which module you want to scan (on my truck i am talking about 2007 Avalanche, it asks me which module meaning the "PCM" or "ECM" . It makes it more complicated because a code could be in either module and producing the check engine light.) It doesn't have that on all vehicles but it just to be aware that there may be one, two, or three depending on the vehicle and you may have to go into each to find the code. It can get complicated if you have never used a scan tool like this before. It goes very deep into the modules of vehicles, but the way Autel has it set up, it basically walk's you though the process. - EPB (Electronic Parking Brake). This is such a useful tool on modern day vehicles because as many are produced they are coming with electronic parking brake instead of cable operated. This is more of useful too for mechanics as this is to deactivate them while servicing the rear brakes so it does apply with servicing them as i have seen it happen because they were unaware and isn't pretty to watch (Expensive meaning). Not the average person using the tool may ever use the feature but is handy in case you ever do need to service the rear brakes but this feature is mainly more for mechanics. - Oil Life Reset, Autel makes a tool just for resetting oil life and as vehicles advance, manufactures and making it harder for people like me to reset something simple as a oil life. It has gotten so complicated that is takes sometimes an hour to reset one vehicles oil life. This tool can reset oil, spark plugs, air filter, and plenty other services on all vehicles. I can say all because it really can, SERIOUS. I reset a oil life for a 2016 Lamborghini then used it for a 2017 Audi Q7 then for a 2013 Chevrolet Spark. It is really simple, plug it into the OBDll port and click oil life and follow the prompts on the tool. Complete. Such an amazing feature too have in a tool because it is getting to painful to spend time figuring out how to reset oil life on every vehicle. - Updates, this tool does come with a year free of updates meaning whenever you buy it. You have a year to update the tool and then you have to purchase additional updates. I am not sure the fee because i am still on my free year updates. I do not believe it is that expensive, but as a tip. Update the tool as soon as you receive it because it probably has been sitting around outdated for a while and Autel produces updates for this tool almost every week so it is never outdated. *Tip* As soon as your yearly free updates run out, update to the latest because in most cases you may not even need 2018 or 2019 vehicles. For me, i would update to the latest and if i really need update i will purchase it but i can't really see a 2018 or 2019 vehicle needing a scan for a engine light. To update the tool, you download the program from Autel to your desktop and the tool comes with a Memory Card that you remove and insert into your computer. 10-20 minutes later your done and inserting it back into the tool. Absolute fantastic! This tool is very advanced for someone that is starting out because it can read so much more that a basic OBll scanner. Most scan tools just read, erase codes and that's it will a few small other features. This tool does it all will do it all, it can scan deep into all your modules which other scanners cannot do. If you are not familiar with one, then this tool may not be for you YET. Buy a cheap basic one then go from there, but if your feeling optimistic about it i say go for it and purchase this tool because it really can do it. Like i said previous, it has a very easy operating system. So your not confused of what your going into. I stated at the top of this review why i bought the tool and i needed to scan my Service Park Assist on my 2007 Avalanche and needed a scan tool to scan body codes. I bought this and plugged it in and realize when i scanned my entire module system i had 11 other codes from Radio to Window to speaker codes. It was absolute amazing of all the codes i pulled, not for my me because it means more money out of my pocket. All this for the price of this scanner is unbelievable i must say, it is amazing. I highly recommend this tool to anyone, i seriously do!

I researched at a lot of scanners. Found out that many of the Autel scanners could possibly be counterfeit (especially on EBAY). I read the reviews from this seller and everything appeared legitimate. The price of CAN$239.00 was competitive, especially since I had free delivery. Which, btw, was scheduled to be delivered on October 8, 2016. I ordered this scanner on September 28, 2016 and received it on September 30, 2016!!! So, I would advise just to take the free delivery, especially if the item is in stock. Scanner came in a hard case, with a 2 Ft cable and a USB cord for connection to your PC. As soon as I received the scanner, I registered it with Autel. This confirmed the scanner was legitimate. Counterfeit scanners, from my research, will not register with the Autel website. I then downloaded the updates. The scanner comes with an 8 gig SD card which after the updates will not leave much space for your data. So buy a larger SD card (I bought a 16 gig for $5.00). I hooked up the scanner to my 2004 Ford Freestar. It scanned and did a diagnostic on the car. It showed all the codes (not only OBDII) but showed all other parts (ABS, electrical, other non-OBDII sensors). I was able to diagnosis my issue (was a fuel rail pressure sensor). I bought the OEM sensor for $114.00 and installed myself. Scanner paid for itself on my first repair. It also has shown my other issues (ABS, parking assist sensors). Easy repairs!!. So I would recommend this scanner. Furthermore, I can assure you that it is not counterfeit.
