Pregnitude: A First-Line Natural Treatment for all Women with PCOS
Pregnitude: A First-Line Natural Treatment for all Women with PCOS By Angela Grassi, MS, RDN, LDN for the PCOS Nutrition Center Blog ([...]) Don't let the name of this product fool you: Pregnitude is a high-quality myo-inositol (MYO) supplement for all women with PCOS, not just those looking to get pregnant. Before I tell you why, I want to briefly discuss what MYO is and how it can improve PCOS. What is Myo-Inositol? A member of the B vitamins, MYO is believed to improve egg quality and acts as a secondary messenger involved in glucose utilization. It's believed that women with PCOS may have a defect in secondary messengers contributing to insulin resistance. How I explain this to my patients with PCOS is this: when we eat foods, mostly carbohydrates, they get converted into glucose in our blood stream. We need the glucose to enter our cells to be used for energy. When blood glucose levels rise, a signal (imagine a doorbell is rung) is sent from the cell door to the nucleus telling it to open up. However, with PCOS, the doorbell on the cell door may be defective. This means that it takes longer for the cells to open its doors to glucose resulting in higher amounts of insulin needing to be secreted. MYO, as a secondary messenger, acts to repair the doorbell so that the cell doors open in response to glucose, resulting in less insulin needing to be secreted. Health benefits of myo-inositol MYO is one of the most studied of supplements in women with PCOS. In addition to lowering glucose and insulin levels, MYO has been shown to improve lipid and androgen levels, blood pressure and egg quality in women with PCOS. It has also been shown to aid in weight loss. You can read more about these benefits in our previous blog post and fact sheet about MYO. Because of its numerous benefits, MYO should be considered as a first-line approach in the treatment of all women PCOS, not just those looking to get pregnant. About Pregnitude Now let me tell you why I like Pregnitude. Pregnitude is a tasteless white powder that gets dissolved in water. Each dose of pregnitude contains 2 grams of MYO and 200 mcg folic acid and comes in individually sealed packets. This makes it convenient to take on the go which will increase consistent use. Other than MYO and folic acid, there are no more ingredients, artificial colors, gluten, or sugars added. Compared to some other supplements marketed to women with PCOS, Pregnitude is affordable at $39/box (60 packets, at least a one month supply). Pregnitude is distributed by Everette Labs and has been used in Europe for years as INFOLIC. Personally, I was thrilled with the results of taking Pregnitude (at the PCOS Nutrition Center, we don't recommend a product unless we've used it). At my last physical, I discussed taking Pregnitude with my doctor. I had initial blood work done to check my cholesterol and glucose and then took 2 packets of Pregnitude (the recommended dose) each day for 3 months. I didn't alter my diet, exercise or supplement use. During this period, I experienced bouts of low blood sugar. My doctor recommended I decrease my metformin by 500 mg and I never experienced low blood sugar again while taking Pregnitude. Lean women with PCOS or those that don't have severe insulin resistance may not need the full dose of MYO at 4 grams/day. If you are planning on trying Pregnitude, you may want to start out with one packet per day (2 g MYO) for a week to see how you respond. After 3 months, I repeated my blood work and am pleased to share the results with you: my HDL (the "good" cholesterol) went up 5 points and my CRP went down 1 point. I also saw improvements in glucose as measured by HA1C. An unexpected surprise was that my hair was thicker. Not bad for only 3 months! I plan on continuing with Pregnitude and will get blood taken again (Septemeber 2013) to further assess any improvements in my health. I am also assessing data on clients using Pregnitude and will update on both. Side Effects Besides the possibility of low blood sugar, Pregnitude is well tolerated. High doses of MYO may have additive effects when taken concurrently with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and selective serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) antidepressant medications. You should use caution when combining high doses of MYO with St. John's Wort or other herbal products or medications that may reduce blood sugar (such as metformin, byetta). Taking Pregnitude with food may minimize low blood sugar. Check out my follow up 6 month review of Pregnitude at [...]

Pregnant after 14 months! The Best $160 I've Ever Spent
UPDATE 2 (2018): We've gone on to have a second baby! Thanks to myo inositol + vitex we conceived in only 4 months this time around. Great stuff! ------- UPDATE: I've been waiting to write this update since February! I am happy to report that our little one DID stick. My husband and I welcomed a baby girl in October 2015. She is such a joy! <3 I realize that Pregnitude/myo-inositol is no miracle drug, but it sure was for us. Someone in the comments mentioned an HSG possibly helping, but we did not have this procedure. We were still in the diagnostic phase of fertility testing (ultrasound and blood and saliva testing looking for hormonal issues). One other consideration of which I've become aware in the past 9 months: if you have the MTHFR mutation, make sure you run Pregnitude by your doctor as it has folic acid rather than folate in it. Pure myo-inositol without folic acid is available elsewhere on Amazon :) I do not have MTHFR, and I know evidence of a link between folate/folic acid processing and MTHFR is contentious, at best, but I know several other women who do and raised this issue, so I thought I'd add it to my review in case it can help someone else. ------ ORIGINAL REVIEW: Let me start out saying that I have never written a product review. I had to make an exception for Pregnitude. I began taking Pregnitude in October 2014. I am not one to experiment randomly with supplements, but I had done some research based on my cycle charts (Hubs and I use NFP both to get pregnant and once upon a time, to avoid pregnancy. We chart basal temperature, and we use a fertility monitor that measures LH and estrogen levels to identify the fertile window). Based on my charts and a discussion with my OB-GYN, we suspected hormonal imbalance that included weak progesterone and possibly weak ovulation. Namely, I ovulated on the later side (average CD 23) and I had dysfunctional uterine bleeding, including spotting for up to 5 days before my period. For unrelated reasons, we could not start fertility testing right away, so I decided to give Pregnitude a try based on the peer reviewed studies showing improved egg quality. My doctor was supportive. As an aside: he had recommended Vitex a few months earlier, so I also had been taking 800mg/day Nature's Way Vitex since May 2013. The product itself: It is a very fine powder, like powdered sugar with half the sweetness of table sugar. I sprinkled the powder into my coffee in the mornings (no sugar added!) along with milk. I stirred it into a glass of water in the evenings. Compared with many supplements and superfoods (::ahem:: maca), this stuff tastes great. Zero complaints. First cycle: Total bust. I had a 42 day anovulatory cycle, but I think this was due to work stress more than Pregnitude. It takes up to 90 days for oocyte (eggy!) formation, so I knew I had to keep going to see the full effects of the product. Second cycle: I ovulated on CD 17! I had great post-ovulation temperatures that were higher than in cycles past. My pre-period spotting was way, way down, and I had *no* spotting during the follicular phase. No BFP, but I was hopeful. Third cycle: We started fertility testing this cycle. That process, as many of you know, can be rather stressful, so I did not expect much out of this cycle. I fully expected to sit this one out and start Clomid or Femara next cycle. Before the cycle began, I called to ask my doctor whether I could continue taking Pregnitude and Vitex while doing the testing. My doctor said yes! I ovulated on day 19 with LOTS of cramping around ovulation, which seemed to indicate a strong ovulation. I also had a fantastic temperature rise post-O, indicating decent progesterone. Lo and behold, at 9 (yes 9!) days past ovulation, I got my BFP! We have been TTC for 14 months. It took me three cycle of Pregnitude and 4 boxes to get pregnant. Pregnitude is a win for me. It clearly improved my luteal phase spotting and likely upped my progesterone. It also appears to have improved ovulation, making it stronger and moving it forward. Hoping this little one sticks!

Not a miracle product, but am seeing benefits!
I have PCOS and historically have had irregular cycles. I purchased this product after my doctor recommended to incorporate an inositol supplement to try and regulate my cycle. Iโm now on my third box, and have not yet gotten pregnant. However I have seen some benefits from taking this! My last two cycles have been relatively regular. I went from 3 months without a period to 35-40 day cycles. Iโve noticed an improvement in my skin and hormonal acne. I also have lost some weight and feel less inflamed and bloated. The powder is tasteless and I pour it into water. The product is a 30 day supply and I feel like the price is a bit steep but average from what Iโve seen other products priced at. Some cons, the first week I started taking this it made me have crazy mood swings. I also get nauseous if I take it on even the slightest empty stomach. I also know there is talk of the 40:1 inositol ratio, and this product doesnโt contain D-chiro inositol so I question its effectiveness. Lastly, I donโt love that itโs in powder form and that itโs a twice daily supplement because sometimes I forget or canโt take it bc im out and about. Overall, I am going to continue to take this to really see the benefits. Update April 2026: shortly after writing this review and taking 3 months worth of pregnitude, I got a positive pregnancy test. Gave birth to my beautiful baby girl this month!

Will mess up a normal cycle - did not ovulate!
Unfortunately I am going to have to write a negative review just to make other women aware. I did read a few reviews that stated if you have normal cycles and ovulation don't take it because it may mess up your cycle. Please ladies pay attention to that. I like you, read all the raving 5 star reviews and thought #1 I'm almost 40 and have been trying for over 5 years now so this may be my miracle as it has helped so many like me. My diagnosis is that I have very low AMH levels and high FSH levels, a thyroid disorder and of course advanced age. I started taking this just before ovulation last cycle and I took it exactly like the directions stated - twice a day. I have been charting for the last year. I ovulate every month. I've done months of clomid, femara, injectables, femara + injectables, nothing, vitex, black cohash. Oddly the only thing that got me pregnant last may was black cohash (after 4 years ttc). Throughout all of this I have taken CoQ10 to improve my egg quality. So back to the pregnitude. I started my cycle like normal this month. Around day 14 I was still getting high readings on my advanced ovulation kit since day 10 - I generally ovulate between days 12 - 14. Day 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 all high readings. Of course I researched dr. google and realized that maybe I would be one of the lucky late ovulaters that gets pregnant (my eggs are usually very mature by day 14 so I doubted this). I did nothing else no other meds this month - I like to see how my body will react to adding something new before I combine so all I took was this, my synthroid for my thyroid, prenatal vitamin (rainbow) and CoQ10. I did not ovulate, temps are still down. On the bright side I will probably have a cyst when my period starts and last June when I got pregnant I had a cyst and the cycle was cancelled so I was unable to do the planned clomid / IUI. I did black cohash days 1-10 ovulated on day 12 and my positive test 12 dpo. I found out there was no heartbeat at the doctor and the baby measured 8 weeks, saw a healthy heartbeat at 7 weeks. I had another miscarriage when I was 20 which the baby measured exactly 8 weeks also. I believe I have a blood clotting disorder because my miscarriages occur right at the 8 week mark when the placenta takes over (just speculation). I had been taking baby aspirin but had to stop due to an SCH (blood clot in the uterus). The SCH dissolved. I am hopeful and will update if I get pregnant with what I did. Please ladies don't give up hope and do your research because this will work for some but not all. If you don't temp you should start. Update: I skipped an entire cycle I am on day 52 of this cycle now and just now starting this cycle. I have never in my life been late other than when I was pregnant. I think it took that extra month to get this out of my system. Please ladies if you are regular don't mess with that. Look into CoQ10, pre-seed lubricant and safer alternatives.

Not a miracle worker, but certainly a good idea
I have "mild" PCOS. However, it still makes my period ridiculously irregular (120+ day cycles sometimes). My husband and I are TTC, and I decided to try Pregnitude in hopes of restoring some regularity to my period without medications. I have taken 3 complete months of Pregnitude. It has not started my period or caused ovulation (monitored by taking my BBT). After consulting with my doctor to medically bring on my period (with progesterone), she did highly recommend that I continue to take Pregnitude while we move on to Clomid. Those who think that taking Pregnitude starts your period after a couple of days are incorrect. Pregnitude is not a miracle maker in that regard (nor does your body work that way to best of my understanding); however, Pregnitude is a supplement to help promote fertility. Pregnitude is not an automatic guarantee to help you become pregnant or solve your PCOS woes. I've seen a lot of incorrect information in these reviews, so if you are trying to conceive or have PCOS please, please educate yourself on what that actually means from reliable medical websites and not message boards and product reviews. Being thoroughly educated from the right sources will better help you decide if and what supplements are best for you. EDITED 2/14/15: I stopped taking pregnitude after 5 months of unsuccessfully TTC. I'm thrilled that it works for others, but it didn't help me out. It made no difference in my hormone levels. If you don't have success with this product there are other options out there including one (Ovasitol) that gives your body Both MYO and DCI inositols in the correct proportions. After taking it for 2 months, I could tell a difference in my skin (no more cystic acne) and my mood improved and I had a natural, unmediated cycle! After finding the right product for my body, plus fertility meds as monitored by my doctor, I'm now pregnant! All that to say, pregnitude didn't work or help me out at all. I can't say I'd recommend it since it did not work for me. Do your research and figure out what will give your body its best shot. Good luck!
