Book 1 in the exciting new Soldiers and Soulmates series from bestselling author Alexa Aston has arrived. Both wronged by their families . . . two souls alone in the world . . . Instead of making her come-out during the upcoming London Season , Lady Charlotte Nott finds herself tossed from her home after her father’s untimely death by a vengeful half-brother. Penniless, she makes her way in a world new to her, first serving as a companion and then governess to the three children of Lord Crampton. When the earl dies moments after hiring her, Charlotte takes on the running of Gray Manor’s household and estate until the children’s new guardian arrives. Guilt weighs heavily on Major Danforth Grayson, having lost too many men under his command over the years. When he receives word of the death of the brother who wronged him, Gray returns home, bitter with the hand life has dealt him. He intends to hire competent people to manage the estate and care for his nephew and nieces and retreat to a solitary life in London—until he meets the inimitable Miss Nott. Charlotte is drawn to Gray but knows she is no longer of his world. When he suddenly becomes the new Lord Crampton, she knows it’s time to leave her charges behind—for what woman would care to watch the man she loves wed another and start a family as she suffers in silence? Yet Charlotte knows Gray is a broken man and her leaving might shatter him forever. Can Charlotte walk away from a flawed man who desperately needs her, or will she leave before she loses her own soul? Find the answer in bestselling author Alexa Aston’s first book of Soldiers and Soulmates, To Heal an Earl. Each book in Soldiers and Soulmates is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order. Soldiers and Soulmates Book #1: To Heal an Earl Book #2: To Tame a Rogue Book #3: To Trust a Duke Book #4: To Save a Love Book #5: To Win a Widow Review: A Sweet Story - This for me is a classic HEA between a noble blooded governess and her employer. It is simply enjoyable. Nothing too dramatic or angsty. Just your regular live story that will have you rooting for their HEA. There were a few love scenes that are sweetly written. Nothing too erotic. I like that the hero is not too dark and brooding. He is tortured by his experience in the past but he is whole and mature and knows what he wants and goes after it. The heroine is innocent yet capable and mature. The epilogue is perfection. Review: EXCELLENT - Such a good story. I read it almost in one setting. This was so well written that I was kept at the edge of my seat and so well entertained throughout. The trials they all had in several places in this story was heart wrenching. Through their unbreakable bond in family was what made them strong. Charlotte’s strong spirit gave courage and hope to a once lost soul, Major Crampton.

To Heal an Earl ~ Soldiers & Soulmates ~ Book 1
'To Heal an Earl ~ Soldiers & Soulmates ~ Book 1' tells the story of Charlotte Nott and Major Danforth Grayson both grew up close to the small town in Kent. They have a lot in common as neither of their siblings could stand them and both siblings were very cruel to each of them when their fathers died and the older sibling took the title. Gray's brother educated him as their father left it in his will and he purchased a commission in the Army and wished him killed in the war five years before he returns to Gray Manor. Charlotte was turned out of her home on the morning after the death of her father by the new Lord with only coach fair and a collection from the servants. She went to London and became a Governess or Companion to a Duchess. Charlotte took the position as governess on the day the Gray's brother and sister-in-law died. She took over Gray Manor until Major Danforth Grayson returned from the war on the continent. She took over the household and estate until Gary arrived and with her efficient help he was able to take on his responsibilities and manage his estate for the new twelve year old Earl. An unlikely romance started between Charlotte and Gray. After he becomes the new Earl when his nephew died young, romance heated up and the question is will they find a happy ending in this interesting story with the help of Lady Harriet and Lady Jane?

A Heartwarming Read!
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I didn’t regret downloading it. This book has all the feels, anger, despair, grief, laughter and love 🤗 I loved both main characters. Their journeys, even though wrought with hardship, brought them full circle to find comfort, love and family. The children were so much fun to read about and I absolutely fell in love with this family, so much so that I couldn’t put it down. Loved it!

(So-So)
The first 50% of the book was actually very good; the plot was interesting and the children were engaging. But after being told of Rodger’s poor prognosis the self absorption of Gray and Charlotte became particularly disturbing. Charlotte immediately focuses on how this will impact her future when Gray becomes the new earl and Gray’s reaction to the news is to escape to London because his emotional capacity is stunted due to the aftereffects of war. The impending death of a child is hard to read about and the lack of emotional investment by the protagonists left a bad aftertaste. Within days of the funeral Charlotte again exhibits selfishness by taking on a new post and planning to leave her charges who love her dearly because she cannot tolerate living so near Gray when he eventually marries. This was my first book by this author and I will read more of her books; I just hope she stays away from the topic of juvenile death.

Very good
This was very interesting and had many interesting characters in Gray and Charlotte with both having secrets and a haunting past. Charlotte was forced out of her home penniless and took up mods as a governess. She ends up in the Grayson manor and is hired to teach their 3 children then another tragedy befell them all . Gray is a soldier who has been promoted to major and had his 2 best friends from childhood with him. He also had a falling out with his family and spent more time with his friends than his family but raised up against the odds. But he’s called away from his duties in the war to take up a family crisis that he doesn’t want but honor says he should. The two people collided in an unexpected way and match wits with each other and many more surprises!

A Wonderful Captivating Love Story
What an exhilarating beginning to this extremely emotional and engrossing romance story. A love story where hatred brought two wonderful characters together for an amazing heartfelt story. I laughed, I cried, I would highly recommend this passionate story that has all you could ask for in a truly enjoyable story.

Healing wounds
Loved the first book in the series! Lady Charlotte just buried father and know her half brother is throwing her out of the only home she’s know. Gray was hated by his brother and when he graduated college his brother bought him a commission and said I hope you did in the war. When Gray is called home after his brother & wife die to care for his nephew and nieces his life will be turned upside down. He doesn’t know how to care it love anymore. With the help of Charlotte and the children he will learn to love again! A wonderful story with a beautiful ending.

All in all not bad, but...
there are scenes i find just inacceptable. For example: witnessing the death struggle of a beloved child and just minutes after the child gives his last breath, going and having sex is not just very unrealistic, it's disgusting...

Rejected by the family
Both main characters were rejected by their family. Met as children, now years later..one a soldier, the other forced to leave home, finds employment as companion and later governess. A good build up. I would read again.

Cute and sweet story
A sweet little romance. Gray and charlotte are both survivors, one from war and the other from mistreatment and rejection of her own (half ) brother. In addition we've three orphans. A.Aston wrote a consistent, short story. Good escapism. I enjoyed it

Adorable
I enjoyed the book a lot. It out a smile on my face for the most part, although I don't agree with some of the author's choices, I understand their reason and their importance for plot development. But at the end of the book something changed and it didn't feel like the same book anymore. Something was amiss. But overall I loved the book and highly recommend to anyone who enjoy a romance where there are some characters development although some things were left to be solved so much in the end that things felt rushed. But I like the author and I will read the rest of the series.
