Ugly Stik Carbon Casting Fishing Rod

Pole is great. Its an uglystik: budget friendly and very sturdy. Fishing fanatics will see them as a great starter. I see the brand as one of the best out there. This pole is no exception. The only issue i see why others may complain is that uglystiks are mass produced and priced low, so if everyone has one, its 'not good enough'- I never had one break on me so im more than happy. NOW, i do have an issue with this particular order though- not a fault to the fishing pole itself. Attached are pictures to illustrate but either the storage or shipping is bad because my pole arrived damage. The guide rings were bent, as if it was pushed against a wall. The foam on the handles look squeezed out and theres a pretty deep scratch on the top piece. Seems like a whole batch was ran over and mine was part of it. Ill be doing a replacement for it. Dont be discouraged by shipping/storage damage- logistics is bad, Pole is great. If youre short on time and want a rod that'll arrive in great condition, would advise not to gamble on this. If you just want a good rod and time is not an issue, go for it!

Don't let the price fool ya. Very nice casting rod in the Graphite / glass 8ft 2-piece 15-30 lb class. Flexible tip section with nice smooth overall bend when fully loaded with 10 lbs. 8 guides plus the tip is a sign of the higher priced rods. Not 5 guides like you see on the other cheaper overseas rods. These new guides are bullet proof. No more inserts to pop out. All one piece stainless. If the gimble but turns you off well that's not a deal breaker. They make all types of gimble but caps for about $3 to $4 bucks if that's what you got to have. Have not fished it yet on the salt water bridges here in Fla. that's why 4 stars. I will put it through the test. Been fishing for 60 years, if loaded with 20-25 lb test and my Penn 140 or 146 squidder should be a winner and a great caster and definitely not just for catfish. Always use a bridge gaff or bridge net to bring the big ones up. Seen to many $100+ rods broken that way. Besides the 7 year warranty its a ugly stick always reliable. Aug. 13th update. It casts much better with the 3 oz weight its rated for loaded with 20 lb mono. Probably will handle more. The pole is on the stiffer side but very sensitive. Remember what its designed for Weight and Bait. For all you one piece pole fanatics out there with today's technology the two piece become one unit and still bends smoothly. All my Ugly Stik's are two piece some are over 25 years old never broke one. My Ugly Stk "Tigers" Spin and Conventional both two piece, they stand right up to my old deep sea poles that are heavy one piece. 30lb groupers are no match. Most poles one or two piece are broken when loaded past its rating with drag seized up.. Don't go over 30 lb braid if pole is max rated at 30 lb. Make sure drag is working properly. Got a 40+ lb Black Tip after an 3/4 hour of fight. This rod proved itself as a reliable pole with my 140 Squidder. The bend was scary at times with it in my rod but holster. No sounds or signs of cracking or stress. Now its 5 stars.

A great rod for catfish

This rod has served me well, sometimes I get a little rough with my rods on the boat and this one can handle soe hard use. It's an Ugly Stik and it's even tough for an Ugly Stik. I use this rod when I'm catfishing because it can handle some big fish and we know how big these catfish can get.

Happy with the rod so far especially for the price. I knocked a star off because the rod did come with some scratches on the blank and some of the eyes was bent but those wasn’t hard to bend back. Paired it with a 6500 c3 and 20lbs hi vis mono. The rod has a pretty moderate action with an extremely soft tip. I feel the rating of 1/2oz to 3oz is spot on. I wouldn’t want to go any lighter or heavier with this rod. This will make a great rod for using circle hooks and fishing in lakes and lower current rivers where not much weight is needed. I would buy this rod again with out a doubt.

Excellent rod I have 3 of them paired up with okuma clx 200la baitcasters with 20lb big game and so far in no issues with these set ups my pb flathead was 80lb and the rod held up like a champ will diffently be getting some more soon

The rod help up pulling in a 46lb flathead catfish. Feels like something even heavier could easily be handled by this rod. Awesome!

For the working class fisherman, you are getting the benchmark for whatever fishing you do. Yes you can spend whatever you want but if you get one of these you can blame yourself if you don't land the fish you bought it for. Very comforting dependable piece of equipment. The reputation is well earned.
