The Kenpo Karate Compendium: The Forms and Sets of American Kenpo

This book is a excellent read and a must have reference for any Kenpo practitioners library. It was written by a direct student of Ed Parker and It covers all the important basic steps from the beginning of training from White belt to Black. It focuses on correct salutations, movements, angles, forms, and sets to the exact degree to which Ed Parker taught. The 1 star reviews wanting more pictures are most likely people who don't study and think they'll be proficient without professional instruction. I'm proud to say I've met the author and proud to have this book in my Kenpo library. Jeff Speight

This is a Master text for a kenpo practicioner. Martial artists have a tendency to keep back information so people go to their gym and they can make money. And so their books only cover basics or devolve onto a travelogue or biography. Mr Wedlake has done a great service for those nowhere near his gym in writing a comprehensive text that covers the fundamental kenpo forms. It is my fervent hope that he has time to write more such books.

like this book tightly done i am a huge fan of the old school kempo jutsu not really the okinawain styles but books lke these show where and how they could touch and how it all really did come from central asia...having a shodan in a tracy offshoot its good to see. and a instructor in another style of kenpo ju jutsu cool to compare and have ...always wondered if you added judo back too this what would happen if it could.

Bought as a gift for my son he refers to it often!

I'm learning from an International Kenpo Champion in San Jose Ca. and really enjoying the training. This book has brought a depth to the "Peace and Harmony" of Kenpo. I am enjoying every page.

A solid description of the forms of American Kenpo. Could have used more photos and diagrams. The symbols used in what does exist are a bit esoteric. Despite the above criticisms, it is definitely worth the purchase and close study, as it will yield information and will improve your performance of the highly specialized forms of this modern martial art.

Unfortunately this book has no Photos. With photos, my avaluation will be five stars. No doubt about it. Well written anyway.

A good one for every American Kenpo practitioner to have. Nice detailed description of the forms from the system. I would have given more stars if forms 7 and 8 had also been fully written out, just like all the other Kenpo forms.
