Premium Odor-Reducing Air Purifier Replacement Pre-Filter, HRF-APP1 / Filter (A+), Black

I bought this because I had been buying the HRF-AP1 from the largest brick & mortar retailer in the world (starts with a W). They stopped carrying it, seemingly overnight, and instead only offered only HEPA and carbon prefilters packaged together. You replace the carbon pre-filter 5x to 10x more often than HEPA cartridge so that move made no sense. You would be hard pressed to find a genuine Honeywell HRF-AP1 pre-filter in stock anywhere locally or even on the web. I initially bought a 2 pack of 16"x48" prefilters described as "odor reducing", "carbon pad", & "charcoal filter". This was a major aftermarket domestic filter company that sells on Amazon. I knew something was off when I opened their filters and there was an ODOR. What? Wait a minute, how am I detecting something like a VOC coming from an activated carbon filter? I compared the filtering ability of some HRF-AP1 remnants to the aftermarket junk I bought and wasn't all that shocked to fink that the honeywell remnant removed just about any source of odor I put in front of it while the aftermarket had no affect on any of the same odor sources or VOC sources. Yeah, I eventually became disgusted by the smells accumulating in my living space and aggressively searched for a viable alternative. I noticed that Amazon manages to keep the HRF-APP1 A+ version in stock for just a few bucks more than what I was used to paying. It threw me off that they used a generic pic of the carbon filter wrapped around a drum HEPA cartridge instead of a pic of the retail box which one might expect to see. The only difference I can see is that the A+ version has white flecks in the filter which are identified by Honeywell as "zeolite" which you can read all about on wikipedia. It has some ups and downs. For instance now I don't feel comfortable wearing a square of HRF-APP1 inside a mask since zeolite is a respiratory irritant. You can cut this Honeywell activated carbon filter sheet to fit just about anything that you need a filter or pre-filter. For example, I use it for odor reduction as a prefilter on two Holmes HEPA units. I can make 4 prefilters with a little left over for other things such as deodorizing the fridge, sock drawers, bath towel storage area etc. etc. I suspect that Honeywell doesn't like that their product gets used for so many other applications, especially HEPA units made by other brand names/manufacturers since a major retailer started to only carry the package deal of HEPA and carbon pre-filters together. If so, what would be the reasoning? They are making MORE money than if they only sold the carbon filters to people needing them for Honeywell products. This is one of the most value packed and versatile products out there. I hope this review helps others in making a wise purchase.

These do Exactly what I was hoping they would. Definitely help cut down on odors and have the air in the room smelling fresh and clean. Like other's have said, they are more porous and have white specs of odor absorbing additive, which is by design. Cutting them to fit with the templates provided was somewhat easy, but I do wish they came in different pre-sized versions. Also, I do not know how long the carbon/zeolite will last with de-odorizing, but it was immediately noticeably working within an hour of installation.

Excellent addition to our home with numerous pets for allergens. Also the squirrel cage filter it fits in makes back ground noise for good sleep. A lifetime product for my family. Super easy to replace too.

As much as I liked the other filters that were pre-cut they didn't have the activated charcoal and zeolite in them so while they cleaned the air somewhat they didn't get rid of odors. THIS filter however makes a noticeable difference real fast on the Honeywell 50250-S on the highest setting. Within about 15 minutes I could tell a difference in air quality. I saw other reviews saying the filter is too thin in spots but the one I was delivered was consistent in thickness throughout although it WAS a bit tall for my unit and so it had to be trimmed, which was a bit of a hassle. I don't like to cut filters, it leaves me with scraps that I can't use for anything. All in all I think it is a decent filter. I was a bit hesitant to buy it at first because of the reviews but then I decided to bite the bullet and try it anyways. Glad I did because I can breath easier.

This is the carbon pre-filter that works with a lot of Honeywell air purifiers. It comes with a template for you to cut and fit your particular model. So make sure you have a scissor ready to cut them to size. Or use your existing pre-filter as a template to cut. The carbon filter removes smoke smell as well as VOCs while the HEPA filter removes mainly dust.

I thought this was pricey for a pre-filter refill and then I opened up the box and realized it was actually a giant roll of prefilter material. There’s a template for each Honeywell model. You cut the template out (paper) and then cut the prefilter size you need. I think I should get at least 4 maybe more refills from this one box. I did not realize how much was included in one box. Also, it’s made by Honeywell so it matches the original material.

Very good replacements. Good quality and they fit and do what I need them to do for my filter. These help keep my home smelling fresh and help so much with dust in the air, I can breathe so much better and they help my headaches as well as sinuses.

Fits great for my older barrel shaped Honeywell air cleaner. Easy to cut to size. Comes with Velcro fasteners.

Been using the Honeywell for many years now. While I have been tempted to use other filters, in the end, I come back to the costly originals because - well, they work best!

I am a long time customer of Honeywell air filter, and have been buying the prefilter from Honeywell as well. The recent purchase has seen a deprovement in product quality. It is really thin and some parts had dirt on it, although it was fully sealed. I have never seen so much black specks coming out of the prefilter. Quite disappointed. Can’t help but feel that I need to write a review on it.

Hello Amazon & Seller, Pls take this feedback as very important message. I have received the goods unfortunately those are old stock. 1)As you can see the number of boxes in the photos (15620CLB), I believe this is batch number of stock. As compare to my previous purchase, it was 26619CLB. I thought Amazon is reliable platfor to sell a good thing, too bad I received old stock!! 2) With refer to the photo, the label of the content is lousy and look like those rejected items and deliver to customer. I expect to receive a new stock with good labelling, why send me this kind of quality of goods? 3)The outer pack of honeywell boxes are super soft and oxidized, I am very sure these stocks had been keeping in the warehouse a long time. This is because the box for batch number 26619CLB is hard and good touching feel. I need your explanation on this
