Can i use this to trace a single core cable

yes but not if its carrying any voltage,must be disconnected from fuse board

Can I use this for mains cables, 1.0mm twin and earth for example?

Yes, as long as the cable isn’t energised

What is the range of these probe to find the wires?

I’ve tried it on 300meter and it works

Just wondering, does anyone know how well this compares to greenlee 701k-g tone and probe kit?

This is one of the best I've used. Had a fluke and a couple of amazon specials, but this is definitely the most rugged and has a longer tip to get into harder to reach places.plus the torch on the probe is very handy!
