Excellent EDC and Bedside Buddy
So far I'm tickled to death with the newest addition to my EDC items. It features rugged construction, excellent design and it's versatile enough for a wide variety of uses. it's tiny and lightweight but powerful enough to be truly useful and you can easily carry it clipped to a pocket and never know it's there. At the end of the day, it comes out of my pocket and onto my nightstand. Our power went out again last night and this little light came in handy for letting the dog out and heading into the kitchen for water. The versatility doesn't stop there. The same clip that holds the light firmly in your pocket will also attach securely to the bill your ball cap, meaning you'll have two hands for that job you're trying to finish in the dark without resorting to holding a flashlight between your teeth. Another outstanding and very well thought out feature is the on/off switch. It's a push button on the butt of the barrel. It's very easy to depress it partially with your thumb and activate the light for a quick burst but it takes more effort to depress it fully and then release for a constant beam. It's an excellent design that makes the light quick to deploy but hard to accidentally engage--no worries if you need to pack the light away for travel. I also like the fact that it came with the one AAA battery it needs to power up its surprisingly strong beam. No instructions were included but everything you could wish to know is on the company's website. To me, this is a no-nonsense nice-looking functional unit that's been stripped down for ease of carry but still has the features you need to get the job done. There's no adjustable beam but everything you need is there and nothing you don't. I am super impressed with what I got for my money.

Just buy it...
After years of ownership I can report this thing is great. If you are wanting a small flashlight that has a press to activate, press further to keep on switch with ONE setting which is a flood not a spot and is NOT adjustable that is durable and gives you a perfect amount of low light in a low light setting to be very bright and not blind you if you know what I mean. Also, giving you the option deep pocket carry or to attach it to your hat brim which is genius not brand specific but still it's got it if you want it and if not you can pull it off. That takes a regular run of the mill AAA battery and not some proprietary unobtanium battery then this is it. I personally keep it in my tool box to use on automotive chores in my shop. You are not going to be able to see 100 yards at night with it obviously, and it's not going to give you 24 hours of run time but for keeping in your pocket to see at night with it's perfect!

Excellent Pocket Flashlight
Quick review: Great focused flashlight for tight quarters. Single AAA battery keeps it small but won't give you more than 2 hours of light. Perfect for electronics work, engine work, keeping in your glove box, taking out the trash, or any other area where you want a lot of light without a lot of fuss. Long review: I love this flashlight over any other I've ever owned. The 20 lumens of output is intensely bright in a concentrated cone shaped beam (I can see the beam at night it's that bright!). At about 8 feet away the main brunt of the light is about a foot or so wide. Furthermore, this light gives out a large dim ring around the center (8 feet wide at 8 feet away). This secondary ring not only makes this light good as a general flood light around the house in the dark; but for close quarters work where 20 lumens is just too much, you can aim a bit to the side and enjoy a more mild 3-5 lumens. In terms of how far away you can use this light, it depends. The beam is very focused so it does carry some light for quite a distance, but because it's only a single small LED don't expect that much. I'd say that at night it remains good for up to about 20-30 feet and still useful with some squinting at about 50 feet. The light color is 80% white with tinges of blue and yellow mixed in. The build quality is top notch with a sturdy clip and anodized finish. I have scuffed the finish up a bit but the flashlight almost "self heals" and keeps them hidden. I also get the feeling I could run this over a few times with a car and it would keep on going. For a gauge of how big it is, it's about the exact size and thickness of my middle finger (male). I have no problems carrying it in a shirt pocket or side pocket of my pants as though it were a pen, and it doesn't fall out at the drop of a hat. The only obvious downside to a light like this is the size vs battery trade off. Streamlight says that the light will only last about an hour and a half on a single AAA battery. From my experience that's about accurate as well, although I usually change the battery out at the hour mark just to be safe. For me however, I prefer the smaller size over a longer battery life. In summary, this light is easily worth the $20 price tag if you want to take a step up from lesser mini mag lites. It's very comfortable to use and grip, and it seems like it'll provide many years of service. As long as you don't mind using up a few AAA batteries, especially if you're a heavy user, you can't go wrong with this flashlight either for yourself or as a gift for others.

Compact, Bright, and Always Reliable
I've used a lot of small flashlights over the years, but the Streamlight MicroStream really impressed me. Despite its compact size, it puts out a surprisingly bright 45 lumens, which is more than enough for most tasks. Whether I’m out on a night hike, working under the hood, or just looking for something in the garage, this little light does the trick. The clip is sturdy and versatile—I’ve attached it to my pocket, hat brim, and even my tool bag. The push-button tail switch is responsive, and I appreciate the momentary or constant-on feature. The aluminum housing makes it tough enough to handle drops and rough use without any issues. Battery life is decent for its size, and I like that it runs on a single AAA battery. Simple, effective, and rugged—exactly what I want in a pocket flashlight. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a reliable everyday carry light.

One and Not Done
Great little light. Now I have many - not too many. My first has developed a beautiful patina. Buyer beware: this will not be your only Streamlight product if you decide to buy as your first. I now have different sizes and some with rechargeable batteries. The ones that take AAA batteries, like this, always seems more versatile and durable from my bias. I have not seen any corrosion or degradation in any of mine. Theses lights are potent little suckers that can simply clip on to whatever and weigh nothing. Great, very compact.
Super handy size for putting in a field/forestry vest pocket, pants pocket, etc. 4 stars because it’s not really as bright as I’d hoped, and I think it could be brighter, but given the size and intended use (inspecting the interior of culverts) that really shouldn’t be a big issue.

Tiny AAA light. Streamlight is king for simple, reliable EDC
Quick verdict: The MicroStream is a dependable pocket backup that just works. Perfect if you want a tough, single AAA light with a clean beam for everyday tasks. Context: Bought April 14, 2025 for $19.99. Lives in a backpack and sometimes a pocket. Clip rarely used. Running the included AAA alkaline. Tens of quick uses per month and it has not needed a battery swap yet. Wins: • Surprisingly bright, and the beam is clean with a usable hotspot, ideal for finding dropped screws or reading labels • Runtime feels strong for a single AAA, no sudden dimming on short tasks • Clip holds tight in a pocket and the light shrugs off drops onto hard floors Tradeoffs: • The clip is removable, but taking it off can scratch the paint at the contact points • Only one brightness level, which keeps it simple but limits flexibility Dealbreakers: If you need a true headlamp or multiple output levels, consider a 2 mode AAA or a small rechargeable with a moonlight setting. Tests and measurements: • Drop test from waist height to concrete, no functional issues, just tiny finish marks • Beam check on a white wall, round hotspot with soft spill, no ugly rings • Battery test in real use, short tasks over weeks on the included alkaline with no replacement yet Tips: If you plan to remove the clip, slide a thin layer of tape under the contact area to protect the finish. For hat brim use, keep the logo toward the bill to aim the hotspot downward. Alternatives considered: A USB rechargeable keychain light is brighter for bursts, yet needs charging and can get hot. A 2 AAA penlight gives longer runtime and a slimmer profile, but it is longer in the pocket. Durability check-ins: Month 1, finish looks good with small clip marks. Month 3, repeated pocket carry shows light scuffing only. Month 5, switch still crisp, no flicker, battery still fine for quick tasks. Bottom line: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Classic Streamlight reliability at a fair price. Not flashy, just a tough little light from a brand that has earned the crown for everyday carry. ↓ Please tap "Helpful" if this review was useful to you!

Cannot beat it
Well.. Wow. I do not know why it took me so long to order one of these, given their reputation. But I was only doing myself a disservice. I regularly carry a Fenix PD35 2014 Edition 965 Lumen 2xCR123A light in my left pants pocket, but it is both a drain on the pricey batteries and incredibly overpowered for your standard "I dropped something in the dark" kind of a thing, so I also always carry something else in the 9o'clock-most corner of my left rear pocket. After trying 2 and 1 AA lights I found the barrel diameter sufficient to be annoying, and moved to 2-AAA penlights. After trying several and chipping a tooth doing something with one in my mouth and something falling on the light, one with a hat clip became ideal. Enter the MicroStream, the pocket clip is excellently designed (most others rip off rather soon for me, this one has yet to even have the finish scratched) and does in fact work extremely well. Ontop of that, the momentary and constant on capabilities are done with a touch of quality one expects out of any Streamlight, Surefire, Fenix etc. without compromise from the lights size. Additionally, it is so light that I genuinely do not notice it's either in my pocket or clipped to my hat, even the HAT suffers no noticeable weight variation nor does the clip dig in to you. To top it all off, it's bright enough to shine at the ceiling and illuminate a dark room well enough to get dressed, shave, tie your tie, and be out the door. I did just that this weekend with no problems. The battery life is surprisingly long, and best of all its powered by ONE AAA (Duracell Procell for me) which makes more/spare batteries as easy and cheap as can be. I've also dropped it from about 6 feet onto a curb and then asphalt, on accident, and it didn't even scratch the finish much less affect functionality. For the price point, the fit finish and function being unsurpassed, and the assurance of StreamLight customer service, if you don't own one and are looking for a light of this species, stop looking. Don't waste your money on anything less than the Streamlight Microstream.

Compact but quality
Initially, I wasn't impressed with this flashlight. The lumens are low and the light was significantly smaller than anticipated. With carrying the flashlight for a few weeks now, I have changed my mind. The slim, and sleek design make carrying the flashlight a breeze, almost like it isn't even there. I also appreciate the fact that it runs off a AAA battery that can be easily replaced. I've added this to my EDC and its become an favorite. Although the lumens weren't what I was expecting, the light is bright enough for any of my needs. It doesn't have any different light settings but I don't different light settings are necessary for the periodic use it will get. The clip is nice and strong which retains it deep in my pocket all day long. The build is quality aluminum and has a strong button push at the end. No way this thing is coming on by accident. All in all, this light has grown on my and I'm impressed with the size and quality build.
