Came with the cable to plug into the newer Xbox 360 model that supports it. no adapter.

Is this compatible with Xbox Series S?

My son tells me that it doesn’t work with the series S. Also you can’t use a usb disk drive on it. Sorry.

Can this work in smaller spaces?

Not really. You do need plenty of room to move around. Also, you need to have plenty of room for the sensor to detect your movements. Unfortunately, I don't have exact measurements, but a simple Google search might help. Anyways, yes you do need quite a bit of space to get the full kinect experience.
