Review: This is a book worthy of being read! - This book, contrary to my first impression, is a marvelously written book about a very well-known Author, probably the most famous author today, J.K. Rowling. This book is an easy-to-read book, being written in large print. It is very factual about the life of J.K. Rowling. One of the highlights are hand drawn sketches on every page, about what is written on the page. I found myself captivated looking at the sketches. If anyone is thinking about having their sketches published this is an example of how it is successfully done. This book is a quick read, being only 100 pages thick. I am a slow reader, and it only took me 2-hours to read. I highly recommend this book for those that would like to learn more about the most famous author today, about where she came from, the less that pleasant circumstances she lived through growing up and not ever giving up on her dream to become a published write. Review: Review: Who Is J.K. Rowling? by Pam Pollack and Meg Belviso - J. K. Rowling is the author who gave us the magical Harry Potter universe. Whether you love her or disagree with her views, her story is truly aspiring. Though I haven’t read the entire Harry Potter series yet, I was interested in Rowling’s journey, from her modest childhood to celebrity status. Therefore, I chose to read Who Is J.K. Rowling? written by Pam Pollack and Meg Belvisom and beautifully illustrated by Stephen Marchesi. This book is an unauthorized biography aimed at younger readers and it is written in a simple yet entertaining manner. Everybody knows that the idea for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came to Rowling while travelling by train. However, she loved writing and telling stories from a young age, thus she entertained her friends with stories she made up. The passion for writing followed Jo throughout her early adult life and she managed to squeeze a little time to write as often as she could. Writing had a therapeutic effect on Rowling’s mind, especially when she went through though times. Yet, from the moment she had the epiphany about a boy who “had round glasses and a scar shaped like a lightning bolt.” (p. 6), her path slowly led her towards her lifelong dream of becoming an author. Though Rowling had an early life filled with hardship, I admire her perseverance to finish her book. What I love the most about this biography is that we’re not only following Rowling’s life, but also the journey of the Harry Potter series, from the first spark of inspiration to fandom. There are some interesting pieces of information about Rowling, her bumpy road to publication and the success that affected her and her family. You will also read about the films, Pottermania, Pottermore, Rowling’s charity work and so on. The book contains some brief sidenotes about places and people who influenced or played an important role in Rowling’s growth as a writer, as well as other facts readers may like to know. There is also a timeline of Rowling’s life, a timeline of the world and sources the authors quoted in the book. Furthermore, please bear in mind that this biography contains some spoilers from the Harry Potter books! “Jo might have finished writing Harry Potter, but chances are that kids will continue to read about him for generations to come. Harry’s world of dragons, castles, and magic wands is truly timeless. Perhaps one day he will take his place among other classic children’s book characters like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland, with his story read by children of all ages forever.” (P 101)

Easy read and informative
We bought this book for a school assignment. It is not a long book ( 112 pages). The book also has a few pictures/drawings to make it easier to understand. My kid thinks this book might be a 2 or 3 grade level, but the reason we bought it was to write a report obout J.K Rowling life. After I read it, I would say it is a good book overview about her life with out getting to much in to detail about her personal life. I would say this is appropriate for kids to read with out getting to deep in to her personal life. I would buy more books of this series if needed.

Perfect for my students
My third graders love this series of books. Several of them even keep lists so they can check them off as they read them. They’re highly engaging for kiddos who are fans of nonfiction. The pictures give extra info to go along with the text. Timelines in the back of the book make it easy for readers to keep track of events in the books. Perfect for avid and reluctant readers alike!

For any adult who didn't notice, this book is for kids.
I gave it five stars because what I'm about to say is my fault. I didn't know this was a children's book, lol. The quick reviews that I read were from adults evaluating it an adult way. Only down further on the page (where I didn't read) does it talk about buying this for a child. So, my review is for anyone who accidentally ended up here at midnight and failed to realize that the illustration on the cover is a tell-tell sign that this isn't for adults. It can't be returned, so I'm glad it was so cheap. Oh well.

J.K. Rowling Mini-Biography
"Who Is J.K. Rowling" is an entertaining and quick read at just 105 pages. The following is a micro-sampler of what is contained in this book: Chapter 2: A Flying Car (commences on page 21): Key details from Rowling's childhood are discussed, along with some of her favorite books. Chapter 5: The Slush Pile (begins on page 46): This chapter includes facts on J.K. Rowling's journey towards submitting her writings to a receptive agent. Chapter 8: Truly Magical (starts on page 85): Important information is shared on how much Rowling's family life changed as her fame started to sky-rocket even further. I thought that it was great to include some information about the houses and security detail. "Who Is J.K. Rowling" by Pam Pollack and Meg Belviso (illustration by Stephen Marchesi) is a book best for those who enjoy the Harry Potter films and/or books. It is also a great book for those who like biographies about self-made people.

Super bio non-officielle de la maman de Harry. Bien rédigé, précis, pas trop compliqué à lire. Je recommande (comme tous les livres de la série, de toute façon!)

J.K Rowling is an amazing person! She had her ups and downs. She is one of the most well known writer in the world. Harry Potter is a great book but this book is not about Harry potter. This story is about Jk Rowling herself. She was very pore. It is a book about how J.K Rowling and one day she was on a train and she thought about a boy with messy hair and a scar on his head. This book tells the story of how she came up with Harry Potter. Hope you people like the book. P.s you can read some of my reviews on diffrent who was books.

I’m sure it won’t be her last biography and as a topic it is actually quite obvious - when my Potter-obsessed young reader noticed this version of “Who Was” she put it high on her next to-read list. And these books are actually quite good to learn more about famous characters from the past, say, 150 years, their lives and social circumstances. Our 9-year old daughter very much enjoyed the book. We use these books for guided-reading and therefore so did I. However the font size is somewhat large so it is suitable for younger readers as well. It’s all clear and very straightforward. Though with 103 pages of text it is an extensive read with a fair amount of information. I really appreciate the single or double paged sub-topics throughout these books that explain more about a related event or specific person, in this book such highlighted topics are Chepstow Castle, herbs and Jane Austen. In terms of presentation, the soft bound book’s cover is colourful. Inside there are quite a few illustrations, but these are in black and white. The quality of these illustrations differs per book, the ones in this J.K. Rowling book are from a proper artist . But still, for a children’s book in this age when there are advanced printing and publishing tools around it looks a bit out-dated. Which is a shame given the appealing content and storyline. There is a map of the UK as well, a bibliography, a time line of the author’s life and a timeline of related events. To conclude, given the acceptable price, the solid content and educational value this is recommended. There are however more more attractively presented children’s reading books around at a lower price point. Great read, recommended
