Because the tines of the comb are squared of rather than cylinder shape, its rough going trying to comb through your hair, doesn't feel too gentle. If you meet a knot you'll find the comb bends as you try running it through which I've not experience with any plastic. That being said, I found the metal satisfying on my scalp (whereas some have said it scratches harshly). I wanted a metal comb as the plastic ones often break as I'm not careful enough, had this for just over a week and so far has held up. Can't speak for its longevity. Does what it needs to but not very comfortably. Get what you pay for
